Hi there! thank you for sharing a video about how simple you built the floating system. How thick is your pond liner? And how you fix it to the wooden wall? How strong is that water pump for the venturi? Last l am exited about your fertelizer system .Greetings from Germany
Good question, I do add garden friendly fungicide, which is a cheaper version of hydroguard, which takes care of the pythium, but I use it mainly to control algae!
So, I'm thinking one could just dig a hole the size and shape of the tank you want and then line with pond liner. Then you'd have a lot less of a lumber bill
This is definitely possible if you have the time and energy, you could also just use 2x4s to save money, I have in the past and it worked fine. The water only needs to be a few inches deep, they float under the rafts so it’s not like they need a lot of room.
I grew hydroponic lettuce in north Carolina in the eastern part of the state super hot here now! Having a hard time, germinating here just wondering where you you having a problem. decided to seed some in the air condition last night to see if it helps. Also found the only two varieties I can grow right now. Is Rex and Muir because of the heat. also, where do you keep your EC and Ph on ? We grow in the NFT system didn’t know if Taft was different? We try stay between 1.4-1.6 on EC and 5.8-6.5 on ph
Hey there thanks for the comment/question. I’m in the mountains of nc, it still gets hot here but taps out at 90. I sew all of my seeds in my house, in the 276 sheets of oasis. I sew 5 of them in shallow trays every week, and I stack them up and set them on my desk. 3 days later I take them out to the greenhouse, it’s like clock work! In the summer I set the ec around 1 with a ph of 6.2 - 6.5 to aide in absorption of calcium. I also grow Muir, but it’s so I still have a hard time growing it. I mainly stick to salad mix in the summer, because it doesn’t matter if it bolts. I grow a lot of the salanovas from Johnny seeds. Hope this helps!
I was wondering if you have trouble growing in the hot summer months? Can your venturi system add enough oxygen for the plants without chilling the water?
In all of my life experience with these the answer is yes. I have even had shallow system only a few inches deep that were setup on tables. Of course it could change if your house is hotter than mine, I’m usually about 90 inside.
Great vedio brother. Just let us know bed length, width and depth , motor wats/capacity, water capacity in bed, and lastly how many plants you planted in this size bed. Thank you in advance for your help
How do you do a floating raft build with something that grows tall like tomatoes? I have always wondered that. Is it just less plant on bigger raft with some sort of anti tipping plant support structure?
Good morning , All day every day, the pump only consumes 2 kilowatts a day. If your looking for an off the grid version look into kratky method 👍 have a great day!
When it’s low I top off. I do a full change once a year at the moment. If I ever combine all my systems through feed/drain systems them I’ll send the water out for testing and make adjustments.
Very good I am going try this design
Go for it! I would start out with an 8’ wide version until you get the hang of it.
I really want to build something like this lol
I’m here to help if you have any questions!
Here is a summary of things you’ll need….

I will edit this video and repost it with descriptions of everything 👍
Hermoso sistema, ademas de esa buena oxigenación utilizas algun producto para combatir pythium?

on point. with the labor and manpower cost. With this size spending on lumber is really a great option. Thanks for learnings.
@@SaludaGradeFarm if you have a backhoe on your tractor you could dig the hole quick and easy for the price of the fuel.
I think this way a lot more convenient and easier on the back. And a cleaner setup.
How often do you clean your system?? Can you make video to show how to maintenance system please??

Will do, thanks for the kind words!

Look into the kratky method, it’s similar to floating raft, but the raft is supported, and doesn’t actually float.
Hello there! Can I ask where did buy your floating board?
beaverplastics.com sure thing! You can also buy them from hort america, google lettuce rafts.

Where do you get your rafts and what are the specs?
These rafts are from Beaver plastic and they are 2‘ x 4‘ and have 18 holes
how often do you have to change this water out?
When it’s low I top off. I do a full change once a year at the moment. If I ever combine all my systems through feed/drain systems them I’ll send the water out for testing and make adjustments.
Is this alot cheaper and more grows than nft?
Not necessarily, but it’s easier and more reliable. I do both, but deep flow technique is a happy medium between the two.
Where are the lids from? Thank you

What is cost per head to produce, and what is profit? Cheers.
There are a lot of variables but they generally cost $.30 to produce and if I sell the heads for $2-3.50.
Nobody ever says what foam is used for rafts
It’s expanded polystyrene my friend.
