What Mikey said about people’s reluctance to understand history is spot on. I live in Loudoun County (Virginia/USA), and the school board is currently locked in a battle with white parents, where these parents are actively trying to stop the school from teaching real unedited history to students for fear that white people will be shown in a bad light if people learn the full extent to which black people were disenfranchised throughout history. This is very real, and continues to happen. This even made the news (Google Washington post Loudoun County school board). So Mikey’s point hit very close to home for me. Thanks TGC for bringing this interview.

Sam and Ian, you should be proud of this extraordinary interview. You took the narrative to a whole new level. Every young sports person should listen to this and then read Michael’s book. Racism has no place in society - period, We all need to learn how to unravel our unconscious biases if we are to survive as a human race.

WOW! Here...Here to That! Bless You. I really hope you & others like start talking about this after reading Michael Holding’s book because personally as a person of colour & hearing the way he speaks, he just has a way of explaining our experiences & the pain we endure, & the anxiety we face daily. Just going for an interview one prays that the person isn’t infected with this mental illness which preys on humans with a brown hue to their skin & whose ancestors come from another country in the World 🌎 I recently went through the example I mentioned. I had two really successful interviews on the phone...they were so impressed & I was chuffed. I wore a smart designer grey suit...I arrived on time & travelled for 1.5 hours. They were originally pleased that I had previously worked for the company so able to hit the ground running 🏃‍♂️ I called them randomly asking are they currently recruiting they said actually a vacancy had been recently become available dispite them not advertising as yet...the manager was very keen & optimistic.
Met the Regional Manager for 3RD interview...he didn’t want to talk about my work experience he said...he wanted to talk about me. Which I kept nice & pleasant... 15 mins..I never heard anything further. I called back two weeks later & responses were cool & flaky... I like me...people lay on beaches to get a tan to get a shade of brown like me...This Racism hurts like crazy! 3 interviews when others have 2 at the most which I always have given I work in managerial positions. I give up 🆙

I totally agree...This has been the most honest interviewer I’ve ever seen speaking about racism. One can see & feel this individual totally wants to know the depths of this mental disease people have & spreading nature of it. He is so fortunate to be also speaking to someone who is just as passionate to convey the damage racism does to its victims & how unfair it is to families struggling to live...cope with pandemics & other lifestyle issues the rest of the human race have to deal with.
To be treated indifferent/inhumane generation after generations but now we are supposed to be more informed due to social media being available at a touch of a button & wherever you may be begs the question...why are these perpetrators so vicious & in fact so sub human & everywhere causing pain discomfort & unhappiness. It’s truly time for change...& change starts with You.

Even tho I was a girl, and girls didn't get to play cricket when I was growing up, in playing with other kids in our building, I tried so hard to bowl like Michael Holding. All the way from the water tank to the crease, I'd run fast, swirl my arms and inevitably fall over. I was 10.

Well done on bringing this interview to life, Sam and Ian. This is simply an eye opener and a clear reflection of how systematic racism has affected our society in different countries. At the end of the day, I feel that it’s all about your mindset and how you are taught different things about different people in your household and schools. That needs to change and we need to show the great things people have done from different communities. There’s no space for any kind of racism in the 21st century. And I can’t think of a better person to talk about this than one of my favourite cricketer. - Michael Holding. 😊

What a brilliant interview. It has been a few weeks since I stumbled upon your channel and I am always looking forward to your next video like a child in anticipation of the next bar of chocolate.
As for the great man that you interviewed in this video, there is not much that you can say about his abilities as a cricketer and now as a commentator, an absolute legend is how I would encapsulate that. But what I was more excited about is the pertinent topic of racism that he has addressed and that you are addressing by way of this content. In today’s day and age due to the internet, issues that have persisted for eons, such as racism, have come to the fore quicker but that does not mean that the thought process has changed because the regressive thought process of segregation has been entrenched so deep that it has in many ways become a part of our genetics. Unless we are to expunge or purge these regressive thought processes, terms such as diversity and inclusion are entirely meaningless.
Each and every action of ours, if they were to be doused in a big dollop of compassion, then it is likely that we can entirely purge and/or expunge the regressive mentality that perpetuates in all walks of life across the board provided that dialogue is the vehicle being used, in the times to come.
Keep putting out the cracking content that you produce because you both and your team are all doing such a wonderful job, cheerios!

    • @johannaalexander2009
      @johannaalexander2009 3 роки тому +2

Powerful thoughtful words... please keep your passion alive & please share this & above all talk to others about it. Other forms of oppression is stamped out because people relate to it or know someone dealing with it & the subject resembles themselves or a family member.
Like Michael said he couldn’t speak out earlier because he would’ve probably been penalised & his career cut short like others before him who tried. We can’t do this alone, we need all people who see the toxicity & inherited inhumanity projected towards us as a race. I compare this to what Hitler did to the Jews but their torture ended & was acknowledged years ago. Ours is still ongoing & traumatising us regardless of social status as Michael Holding is showing. This interview was magnificent.

Top interview guys. You got the "yeh man, no problems" finish. Solid. There were times Mikey had the look of an angry fast bowler, and rightly so. When he showed that face while was bowling, there would be a wicket next ball.

These guys interview techniques puts those on the BBC, ITV news, Good Morning Britain to shame speaking about this sensitive subject. Others seem to be uncomfortable showing empathy or passion about these abhorrent in humane practices & behaviour. The mental & physical torture is an unbearable nightmare. Thank you Guys perfect interview hitting the nail on the head! Well Done 👍🏾 Blessings to You for asking the right questions & delivery of back up multi level material showing the existence of Racism which other interviewers are so darn lazy & thoughtless to collate thus aiding & abetting the ABUSES which strengthens the systematic racism processes.

A lot needs to be done. We all need constant education. It is never late to learn.
This exists even in India. We need to respect our diversity more. We need to be more compassionate to people from various backgrounds. Being an Indian was all about unity in diversity, and it is not the same now anymore. Commenting for a better and progressive society everywhere.

Brilliant interview Boys. What is becoming increasingly evident is that no one, upon being asked, “if you are a racist?” would
accept that they are racist. I have often thought of a social experiment. For instance, if we are to take an opinion poll on racism, asking
people to score themselves between 1 and 10. 1 for “not at all racist” and 10 for “extremely
racist.” It would not be surprising at all if the total result claimed, “not at all racist”. Finding a self-professed racist is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Perhaps, the only way to overcome unconscious racism is to be consciously anti-racist. Peaceout from across the ditch in New Zealand where we are licking the lollipop🍭

Wonderful interview, as an Indian I can say we are a very racist society, from selling fairness creams to matrimonial listings one can see the unapologetic nature of this, on top of this we have the caste system, and whatever little reservation the oppressed caste enjoy is frowned upon by the oppressor caste which has had their own reservation for thousands of years (a thing like who can be a priest or a warrior has always been reserved for the oppressor caste). I hope we can look in the mirror and change. We need our own Dalit lives matter ( DLM), with a 25% dalit population the last dalit to play for Ind was Vinod Kambli.
I also hear a lot of murmurs about the quota system in SA cricket, SA has 90% population of Blacks, colored and Indian south Africans, whites make up less than 10% of the population, even if 1 white guywere to be in the team that's not a problem, for very many years blacks have simply been denied opportunities. There was black WK as an understudy for Boucher, Boucher got injured in the eye and guess who replaced him as WK , yes AB Devilliers , who all this while was playing as a pure batter, when the opportunity opened for the understudy all of a sudden they felt if AB wicket keeps it will lend more strength, why could they not get rid of BOucher to lend strength earlier when he was fit.
