I do the same in terms of using new products by itself so that I can get a true feel for how it will react with my hair. This gel did not work for me. Just like you explained, my hair was too fluffy on day 1 and when that happens, it results in no longevity. Same results occurred when I paired the gel with the coconut hibiscus leave in. But…my hair does not like glycerin, even in the smallest amounts and if I recall correctly, I think both the gel and leave in contain glycerin so that was a good enough explanation as to why it did not work for me.
