    To resign in passive nihilism, that is truly one of my biggest fears. To be in constant overstimulation but never truly gratified or content, in an effort to distract ourselves from the absurd nature of the world. To never discover ones one capabilities, because of fear of facing the dread that accompanies trying. I'll always rely on the ideas such as that of Seneca to push me forward, "No man is more unhappy than he who never faces adversity. For he is not permitted to prove himself".

      But also the more we suffer, the more numb we become to ALL feelings as a survival mechanism. Id rather live a life of pleasure/not permanwnt suffering and hard ship where at least i can be content most of the time, and perhaps i feel pain a little more strongly than it does happen, as opposed to a life numb to joy, where the only true experience is pain, and overtime that pain actually builds and gets worse because the human mind only has a threshold for so much suffering before it implodes.

    Perhaps this is why buddism teaches not to pursuit happiness, but to pursuit freedom, and that happiness (or rather contentment) comes as a byproduct of freedom.
    By making hard choices, we don't get immediate pleasure, but we exercise freedom, because we choose ourselves the struggle to engage and this gives contentment.
    Taking the easy choices on the other hand, will always be so straightforward, that it doesn't really feel like a choice at all. Instead of becoming free, the easy choices leave us a slave to our desires, and their aftermath comes as struggles we didn't consciously choose.

    Thinking like this for a while and it really helped me with anxiety, knowing that there is this equilibrium between happiness and suffering. I meditate on this subject for some time now, and it helped me tremendously to forge my path in life. I grown up pretty much alone and had no clue what to do with my life after school. When to college but didn't even know why I picked my course. I realized that I was making decisions not based on what my ambitions were, but on the most clear and simple paths I could take to be and "adult". This obviously didn't work, trying to escape the feeling of being lost just makes you more lost. Accepting that your actions have consequences and your decisions are ways to forge your path in life were the start of my reconstruction. Today I feel that decisions are way less of a burden of despair and anxiety that it once was, but a opportunity of freedom. Stick to your guts, listen to your heart and guide with your brain and everything will be just fine. Don't chase shit just because you think you should, chase something that makes you feel special. There's no such thing as a silly dream, but a life of running away from what you truly want is a silly life.

    In trying so hard to have so many good experiences I am also exposing myself to utter despair when things don't workout.
    When in all actuality I should be thankful there are as many positive things in my life as there are, no matter how "few".
    I needed this fam, I am recently quit smoking weed because of the volume I was smoking and I've been having straight up withdraw symptoms because I'd become so dependent on that numbing of the pain of daily life. This video has helped me a lot. Lately I’ve been struggling to find reason in going to school. It’s been the easy choice to just not go or do my work, because it was the most fun in the moment. I had forgotten that you have to do annoying and sometimes repetitive things to succeed in school and that it will be worth it, it just takes time. Ultimately it seems what I needed to realize was that patience is what I need to be in order to reach my goal of going through and finishing school.

    • @HelloThere-xs8ss
      @HelloThere-xs8ss Рік тому +1

      How'd that turn it out? Did school pay off? Did all that time pay off?

    • @xqueenn5012
      @xqueenn5012 Рік тому

      @@HelloThere-xs8ss well I think so, but there was one piece I was missing when I wrote this and it was that I can do things miserably. Once I realized that I was able to apply and get into college even though I don’t want to go to college that much, but I do want what a college degree will help me obtain. So do it, even if you have to do it miserably. Also I graduate this spring and I have all A’s except in once class, and it’s a B. When I wrote this I was failing all of my classes and it looked like I wasn’t going to graduate in time. But don’t forget to do things that make you happy once in awhile.

    This is a tough one. I actually agree with all of this in theory, and even by experience know the truth of "easy choices/hard life." My one asterisk is anxiety/depression, in the sense that experiencing equal pleasure for my pain sounds like a dream.

    • @dingdongbingbong2835
      @dingdongbingbong2835 2 роки тому +11

      I think the pleasures that were stated in the video is much more concrete, for example the body builder finding pleasure when hes stronger and much more muscular. You can actually see and feel and have a concrete understanding of what you gain. The feeling of doing something and having it paid off is one of the things that makes life worth living i think sory for bad english.

    I rarely ever comment on videos but today it felt only right to do so. I'm a 16 year old guy from germany just trying his best to form habits that lead to living a happy and healthy life. What has really helped me to organize my thoughts and ideas are your videos. They always either exactly put into words what I tend to think about alot and thus remove the burden of me having to do it, or throw new ideas at me that are worth getting lost in thought about. Either way, I am very grateful to have stumbled upon your channel and I do want to thank you for the great effort you put into your amazing work :) Don't stop anytime soon please

    "For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself" - Viktor Frankl... TOO DEEP....

    your channel is easily one of my favourites. I love your Podcast, the way you explain certain theories, your thoughts, the little animations.
    It's so much fun to watch and still there lies such hope and some sort of freedom wihtin that your videos actually helped me out of a pretty dark place.
    It is definetly hard to do the right things. Chosing to stop smoking, actually going outside or eating healthy when there is pizza left. Growing up in a time where you can numb your brain with every little thing possible I feel like we aren't thar far away from this society of last men. I see it around me and my friends sometimes, what their goals are or how sometimes they just stop growing all together. I wish for myself to always try my best, and I do believe that after a while the hard choices become easier habits and a good life.
    much love-

    about the hard-line nihilistic stance: why must it matter in the grand scheme of things? the grand scheme of things is not human. it is not our realm. it is not of importance to us. the insignificance goes both ways!

    This kind of paradox sort of leads me to the conclusion that we have an innate incapacity to handle extreme experiences. That the opening of one's mind towards one type of experience will inevitably lead to opening ones mind to all experience and this doesn't seem too odd to me, but what does seem odd to me is our allergic reaction to life experiences.
