I've always loved watching Shark Week but I'm rather disappointed that you're making a game out of this. It makes it look like your just playing around. What happened to the serious research? What benefit is this for the shark population or for the human population in and around these areas?

Same, I especially like that one show where 5 sharks would evaluate new inventions and businesses only to either invest or use the lazer beams attached to their foreheads to destroy the owner's. Also the Shark side of the moon was a great film, a real character piece.

Stuff like this gets kids interested in nature and animals. For all we know this program alone has encouraged hundreds if not thousands of kids to become biologists, vets and scientists. The children are our future as cliché as that is it is the truth and they are ones who will hopefully save as many species as possible from extinction. For adults it just plain fun to watch and forget the worries of your demanding life.

@@tinama5467 I don't think so. I don't know what they make those decoys from but whatever it is, it is quite strong and resistant as they use some of those decoys several times. At least for sure the one used here is not a real seal; if you look at the shape of it you can see that it is a piece of something "dressed" to simulate a seal but it's not even round nor fleshy as a real seal would be and if you get the chance to observe closely, there is no blood or reddish flesh exposed anywhere when the shark bites.

Wow, 30mph, I'd always guessed about 25mph, the thing I usually talk about is their massive tail, if you look at the size of the tail in relation to the size of the shark, great whites have huge tails, everyone talks about the teeth and for good reason but for me the tail is what's amazing about them, the power it takes to propel them out of the water is awesome.

Good reminder for us all, that the ocean is not our domain.
Studying and understanding these creatures is one thing, making a game of this is different. We best not be messing with these creatures.
Those sharks are amazing though. I just didn't like the scoreboard stuff.
By the way, in case anyone cares,
In late March 1991 during Spring Break, I drove down with a group of buddies from Little Creek to Daytona Beach and DB Shores, Port Orange, and Ponce Inlet, Atlantic Coast of central Florida. We stayed at a decent and clean motel on the ocean in Daytona Beach Shores. With our Military discount, each room was $34.00 a night with little kitchen, nice deck and clean pool. Listen to me carrying on. It's a good memory.
About 8 of us were going on a full day deep sea fishing charter. That morning, before we were leaving for Ponce Inlet, which is not far south of Daytona. I was awake very early, took a walk down to the Sunglow pier. I found myself sitting at the far end of Sunglow Pier with some old timers who were definitely WW2 Navy Sailors, they all have that look. These guys were searching for the peace which comes with quiet and nature. and watching a spectacular sunrise over the North Atlantic, calm waters. We witnessed a Great White which was at least 8 or 9+ feet in length jumped out of the water and went for a seagull or other bird sitting on the surface.
These are once in a lifetime things. Of course I had no video camera, just a 35mm with a lot of nice sunrise pics before ripping through the film to the end.
I've seen schools of smaller black sharks not far from the beach.
God, I sure am lucky to have seen that.
I was almost afraid to write how big the shark was, as I have no way of confirming and backing up what I witnessed, only my word in front of God and my Honor to our Nation, this shark was at least 8 feet long or slightly bigger.
Certainly not the biggest shark anyone ever witnessed, but it gave me a chilling reminder of why humans are supposed to swim in pools. 😂
One last note, our Charter Captain, liked us because we showed him and his mates a ton of respect. The Captain took us out at least a hour ride at 18 knots. We were dropping lines in 250' of water and catch the usual Red Snapper and my one buddy caught something and by the time he wound it up to the surface, a shark had gotten it, leaving only the head. We laughed like Hell about that.
    Good times, indeed.
    God Bless Everyone.
    Peace to all.
    Cústos.

And YES they can live in salt, brackish or freshwater (but only for shorter periods of time). There was a Bull found up the Mississippi River in the early 1900's in Illinois & some 2000 miles up there Amazon.
BUT AGAIN, water temp is a HUGE deterrent for them. The only bull shark rumor that MAY have had some merit was a dead one found that was thought to be transplanted there (not sure why anyone would WANT the 3rd most deadly and the most aggressive shark in our lakes?
During 2022 Shark week not 1, not 2 but THREE shark experts said there Bull Shark is the top shark they wouldn't want to be in the water with. They are just extremely aggressive and unlike other sharks - they have NO QUALMS taking on prey since their size!
And after watching Shark Week & Shark fest since I was little I am 100% most fascinated and in awe of the GW, & have a weird fondness for Tigers (even though they are the 2nd deadliest).
My issue is that a Bull or Tiger investigatory bite is NOT the same as a Great Whites "nibble" since their teeth can be 2" long knives!
BUT, I am FASCINATED looking at the skeletal sharks jaw bones and seeing the ROWS & ROWS of teeth on a conveyor belt... it's amazing!

@debrakleid5752 Yes I am, sorry. For some reason it never adds the name I'm replying to when I type a reply on a browser. Also, aren't Tiger sharks one of the more aggressive types of sharks?

how do they make a "seal Decoy"? they use a black wet suit to emulate the seals skin, what do humans wear when surfing or driving, errr Black Wet suits, so you're encouraging/training sharks that it's good to attack black wet suits? we have people feeding sharks by hand on these shark tours, all wearing black we suits, you are doing everything in your power to understand these sharks yes, but you are also putting us on the menu, by associating Humans with food and we all wonder why shark attacks are on the rise.

Well for vertical jumps with humans we actually use a belt system. The athlete puts it on their midsection. Then we can precisely determine how high they jumped. But before that, in basketball at least, it was measured by finger tip reach. Which is the highest point. I guess bar jumping in the Olympics measures from the lowest point. But ion know, their friggen fish 🤣🤣🤣 so the fact that we measure it at all is insane.
