- So I've been recommending to people to buy the Zhiyun Weebill-S since it was released in Oct 2019 and many has bought the gimbal under my recommendation and youtube videos... and today... less than 4 months later and a few video gigs later... my weebill S broke.... very very disappointing.

Not so much honest and he claims “unbiased” yet hes ragging on the quality after admitting hes rough with it. I hope his gimbals do fail and he trashes his cameras in the process
In PF mode gimbal rolls down on it's own. I think my button is broken, but it will do vortex mode

I only lock it in stored mode and when i balance my camera on it. After that ik just leave it on or remove the camera when i’m done.
Hope it won’t break because i think those locks are made for this purpose and not while carrying it with an heavy camera on it while moving around.

I resolved the problem of the gimbal not re-centering by installing the older 1.90 firmware. I know they are doing their best effort by constantly updating the firmware but my advice is: if your gimbal works fine, DON'T install a new firmware. No point really.
I also had a problem with the locking mechanism lever for the mounting plate not working, had to contact Zhiyun and they sent a replacement part. Great costumer service honestly. Anyway, I won't be surprised if we see a 'Weebill S2' or something in a year or so that will probably resolve all this issues. Still agree with you that they should spend a lot more on QA.

There are tutorials in YT explaning how to install this. Basically you have to plug your gimbal to a computer via the usb-c cable, then you download a Zhiyun gimbal utility tool from zhiyun's website+usb driver and then you load the firmware file with Zhiyun's gimbal tool.
Thanks for the update, I thought about buying it for a job, but my professional experience and inner voice(saying: "better buy from a reliable brand, than a fancy one")

My Weebill - S is still working fine till this day and I'm using firmware version 2.05. I have used it on my Canon 5D Mk IV and Sony FDR AX100. Locking & Unlock the Weebill will significantly wear out the locking mechanism in time. But I don't use the locks when I put down my Weebill. I live the Weebill "On" all the time because the two batteries that are on the Weebill can last for up to 14 hours and with spare batteries why worry.
I almost had the same issue with the locking system. The roll lock is very fragile and I recommend using the locks only for balancing, and transportation should be done with the gimbal unlocked
I am very lucky with the Zhiyun Weebill 2, and I am very happy about it. It's also my first gimbal, which I used on my Sony a7III with 24-70 g master. I think the Weebill trend is for lighter users like me who don't own a lot of gear and do not shoot professionally but still want to make use out of their sony a7 without spending too much money on an expensive gimbal. And the Weebill=s is even cheaper, so I think if you are using those vlog cameras like a6400 it should still be great. My Weebill 2 actually serve me very well. If one day I ever shoot videos professionally I will for sure invest a much more heavy-duty and expensive gimbal.

This EXACT thing happened to me and my zhiyun weebill Lab (not the S) - i thought maybe it was an isolated incident.
I had both issues, broken axis lock and weird panning issue. Ended up selling mine and trying the Feiyutech. We'll see how it goes

These were not broken. You just had to open the doors of the axis, and place back the spring and the two plastics that control the spring and the locks button. It can be fixed in 60 seconds..it is sad that people don’t try to understand and repair the gimbals themselves. Weebill s is very good.
had a zhiyun before (the first crane), 1 arm popped off, I went to their website to contact them, and boom the contact page is all in chinese (even in their english website), i had to spam their social media page to get a reply, eventually (4 months later) they replied. In short, i was supposed to send it to china and no promises of fixing nor how much would be. I ended up super glueing the bit that came apart myself and promised myself "zhiyun never again". i seen lots of reviews recommending the weebill over the ronin-s.. i couldnt care less, gone with DJI and the build quality is so much better.
Yeah man in PF mode the gimbal rolls down on it's own. I think it's the button. Is it worth trying to get it fixed?
sorry to hear. those motor locks are so convenient, so I understand the frustration. just got mine, so I hope I can take good care of this fragile gimbal lol. My little advice to potentially remedy your situation, I recommend using velcro cable ties to strap the axis, and tighten it while not in use. I used to do this with my Crane 2 while moving from locations to locations. Anyhow, thanks for your honest rant! haha.

Thanks for the video on this issue. I think the locks are mainly there to transport the gimbal without and camera on. Not sure the mechanism is robust enough to carry a heavy camera setup just as you would do when moving a camera on sticks (tripod).

I just use a QR plate so I don't have to constantly balance it.
Returned my Weebill S last week. My Ronin SC doesn't have enough space in the frame to balance front-heavy setups (a fucking shame), but the motors themselves have always felt stronger and snappier. Build quality is about 5 million times better, too.
I don't know if anyone's mentioned it to you yet, but the behavior where it doesn't pan when underslung (and not returning to center when lifted out of underslung mode) is a PURPOSEFUL decision they made. They've communicated as such. Users have requested to make it an option instead of a "feature" forced on us, and they didn't listen.
I REALLY wanted to love the Weebill S. But the firmware issues (couldn't keep the horizon level, no matter how many times I manually corrected it AND did the convoluted calibrations) and the hardware quality make it a hard pass.

Vu, the saying that says that you get what you pay for is in full effect in regards to the reliability of this particular gimbal. I hope that this not known issue or anything like that. If anyone else experienced this problem, cold you please let us know?
I wonder how expensive it is to have the "*ZHIYUN Repair Department*" fix the lock issue if you DO NOT t have an active warranty? If ZHIYUN, where you at? ..Patiently waiting!... Uno, Dos, Tres...?
Yeah I feel your pain on that. But those locking switch can get fixed by using a Allen key. It's kinda annoying but it can help. but currently having with on of the axes.
Last week I got my own Weebill S, my fourth gimbal. I think that your title is somewhat misleading. Yet this is how it goes, it's called clickbait. Same with _incredibly_ cheap chinese products. Did you expect them to be flawless? However, very useful warning, thank you. Will make sure that I never stress the locks too much. I also have the Ronin SC. Many say it was built better, but I disagree. The mounting system is actually complete junk, they really screw up (pun intended), and compared to the Weebill S it's not even very compact.
Generally, as is a truism, one should take UA-cam reviews with a grain of salt. You have to see more than ten for a given product to be told about about the downsides too. Like here. So thanks again.

Thanks for the update. There had to be some kind of real down side considering the price. Even with those down sides I personally still feel like it's worth it. Mine is still going strong.

The locks don’t break. There is a spring and two plastics controlling the spring and buttons that were just simply displaced. You can open the doors of each axis except the pan and repair them in 60 seconds.
You can self repair the locks. These are not broken but the spring and two plastic are misplaced. Just open the doors of roll and tilt axis (whichever you want to fix) and place them back correctly. Probably a shock misplaced them. Don’t send back weebill s gimbal , simply repair it yourself. It is not that complicated. Same thing for the tripod legs that get loose, you can easily retighten them. And weebill s has removeable battery so it should last a long time, if you don’t break any motors by doing nice balancing and don’t push too much overweight devices.

I have similar problems after 1 year of use. The pan axis won‘t return to the middle anymore and it will cause axis lock errors. Haven‘t found a solution yet, despite perfect balancing and re-calibrations. I will have to contact customer support. But not sure if I shouldn‘t switch to DJI anyway. Something nobody talks about is the accessories. The ronin has much more and better accesories. the ergonomy is far better for attaching a monitor for example.
same thing happened to me when I was travelling in Peru for 2 weeks with the 28-75 Tamron. The thing make rickety sounds even without it turned on. Now my Zhyun Crane 2 is much more robust and a better work horse.

Ronin sc, unfortunately, Not much better. In my case, one of the locks broke after a month, and balancing it with a7iii and simga 24mm 1.4 is almost impossible (Too small space between fast relase and motor). Also i had problems with vibration in two different ronin s and can't find solution. At the moment my next choice will be weebill's, due to its low weight and high power engines. Thanks to you, I know that I have to be aware of locks.

The locks don’t break. Open the doors of the axis to fix and place back correctly the springs and plastics that control the buttons and spring. It just that easy. You can fix the locks in 60 seconds.

You will ONLY use the locks in 2 situations
1. If your tuning or balancing or seting up your camera gimbal you can use the lock
2. If your not gonna use the gimbal and your gonna keep it in bag or hardcase you can use the locks to secure or avoid shaking the gimbal
Other than these 2 situations your not gonna use the locks...

Hate that I had to find your video this way but I'm glad you made it. When I store mine in my backpack I've been leaving the mounting plate on which doesn't make it entirely flat. Guess the slightly awkward shape allowed extra pressure to be put on the bottom lock which is now not catching like yours. Interested if anyone has tried opening one of these things up and fixing it.

Got the same problem with the Weebill Lab! The gimball still works though. The stand is garbage, i had to purchase a generic one, and it works 10 times better, Cheers from México dude!

Just bought a Weebill-S yesterday BRAND NEW, battery already defective, charger doesn't work, and the gimbal indeed feels very brittle and horrible build quality. Especially the plastic. I do not understand why everyone likes this gimbal.

The Weebill S locks do seem more fragile vs the original Weebill lab for sure. Just exchanged mine since I bought it less than a month ago.

@@nVuFilms it is, but still better than the Lab in all other respects for me. Ease of balancing, lever locks for quick release, motor strength, and compatibility with my EOS R over USB. Not to mention the new focus module and image transmission module that I'll likely be trying out.
i also purchased this gimal only 1 month ago. The latch screw that is used to tighten the adjustment during balancing is broke . Wont even tighten no matter how hard . Ive only used this gimbal twice during the last month very disapointed
I think the gimbal is ok for $289, but if you paid more, I see why you would be disappointed
I still use a weebill S, their subsequent designs got worse I wish they kept this basic design and just improved on some core stuff like improved bluetooth, locks/motors etc

Thats rather hilarious that you are having this issue now, because my lock function JUST BROKE TOO on my Weebill Lab!!! I just shipped it out to Zhyiun to get the lock mechanism fixed... I had to pay for shipping, hopefully it wont break again :/

@@nVuFilms Hey man~ did you get any reply from the support? i have noticed the same issue while doing pan tilt move and i noticed it happens when you start switching the gimbal from normal to underslung mode while rotating in the yaw axis. It does not happen after a certain angle but it's very weird and hard to notice what angle causes it ...anyway thanks for the video ~ at least i wasn't the only one with the issue

This is an honest video and a warning how to use the lock button. I guess you have to accept their quality control trading off with the pricing. The trigger button on my first buy (Weebill S) didn't work at all. So I returned it and bought new one. The second one is fine. That's fine as this is my hobby gear, but is this for the professionals? I don't think so. It's a bit expensive toy.

Would the Weebil S still be recommended for some like me who do alot of dance, action and skate videos. I want to keep my setups small to medium so they can really get in to the action, Like the A6600 and 10-18mm or a7III with with the tamron 28-70.

I just ordered one and i'm very excited to see how it improves my shooting.
Been 2 months since I have this gimbal and I can see that the locks act weird sometimes, like hard to unlock and lock, one time even unlocked it self while I was walking and remember that my camera is a canon 250D (light dslr 550g) and 10-18mm Canon EF-s lens. Under 1kg weight.
Also some weird stuff this gimbal is doing, when I connect the camera with the gimbal via cable it just stops working anymore, and i have to restart it almost every time. I am so disappointed...
Any tips for new gimbal? I was thinking about Ronin S or SC.

Man, I was hyped about buying the Sigma 24-70mm and the weebill S. Then Stephen Malloch said his was bad, and Camera Labs said theirs was mushy.... now the Weebill S is rickety. Thankfully I havent spent any money yet.

True Story: I spent so much money on discounted lighting equipment the end of the year I ended up NOT buying the Weebill-S, it was 'next on my list' before the Spring Photography Season rolls around...!!! Ever since a firmware update around 1.90 my pan follow is shite. it rarely returns to center. i have to press the Fn to bring it back. Really frustrated with this gimbal. I'm waiting for Ronin to bring out a new more powerful SC so i can get a replacement. This gimball is junk.
Yeah, when I first got it and looked at the teeny slider locks, I knew they would be stressed with the weight. I won't lock it when walking around and powered off. Hope you sent it in for repair or replacement.

Things made in China are cheap if the brand asks for cheap...things from China are good if the brand asks for good. So...looks like the brand needs to rise up their standards...I wonder, though if the price can be the same. Thank you for the review.
Ugh! My roll axis lock broke the first time I used it. The locks are such a good idea, but poorly constructed on the weebill s unfortunately. Definitely inconsistent in its motions. I still love the design and travel ease...so I'm gonna keep using it. But it required a lot more post-cleanup than I had hoped for. Maybe in the next 10 firmware updates it will work better....the locks however, terrible. I hope that can be fixed.
Happened to me this weekend w this gimbal, all of a sudden motors died and said locks were applied and they were not. Had to keep shutting it on and off, very inconvenient when working !!

My main problem is this gimbal is too shaky. I wont recommend this if yourbody or lens doesnt have image stabilization.
And it acts different everytime you turn it off and on, (same set up).
Hit and miss, very unreliable.
Btw, my roll axis lock is also broken.

I watch some reviews before buying it, they say this is the best gimbal. I will never ever trust those famous youtubers anymore.

Dude, no offence but have you heard of manufacturing faults? Things like this happen with all products. If buy a new BMW, Audi, or whatever car, it breaks the next day, does that mean all other cars are bad or faulty? Of course not. That's why you have a warranty. Use it. Also on the same note, you're probably using the locks for the wrong purpose. As some others have already mentioned, you lock the gimbal when you storing it away, you're putting it in your bag or something, without a camera on it. Because if you lock it while you have that camera on it. and run around like crazy, with the extra weight, of course, you'll have extra pressure on locks, and eventually, it will break.
I repeat guys !!!! The locks don’t break, and are easy to fix in 60 seconds.
will probably buy lighther gear next time!just bought this gimbal for my new used GH4 with Samyang 10mm t3.1!its fun, but also trying to remember the 6 modes it have is also a bit lol to remember!

Mine is out of order out of the box !! there is a hard point on the roll axis motor (though I double check I unlocked the axis) When I use it the gimball is warning me I have to unlock some part !! I already regret to have bought it...

My tilt access screw is not working, So I cant use it. I don't know what that black thingy is called the one to tighten the tilt axis.
Terrible, mine broke immediately after updating the firmware to V2.03 and they told me they cant help me till after chinese new year. and they wont replace it even though I've only had it for 4 months. They clearly broke it with their rubbish firmware. They will only "repair" it next month....maybe and I have to pay for shipping myself. absolutely ridiculous
Yes, my motors won't respond again after the V2.07 firmware update. They are deliberately doing this through their shitty firmware updates.
I have seen this inconsistency with crane 3 and again with weebill S.. and just started saying why this suddenly strange reflex at sometimes without any reason ... Am i the only unlucky man in this planet? Then saw your video and recognized the fact... very Chinese product loaded with tons of attractive features without quality control

Sounds like you're doing a lot of heavy lifting with your Gimbals. Why are you not using the Crane 3? I understand it can handle a heavier payload.
Sold my Ronin S and bought this heap of shit too! A few weeks later, tilting all the time, joystick fell off and it just doesn’t work very well.
Really rubbish and will be going back to dji asap. (Should have known better as I owned an original crane and that is lying broken in a cupboard too)

my rosette mount is broken. its screws are only half way in.
My locking switch is broken too. I thought I was not big deal so I keep using it but it got worse. Now, I have to put a tape on it so it doesnt slide back to the lock mode. It is too late to return and it is probably not worth to sell it.

I had the crane plus, bought the weebill lab in february 2019 because it was tiny, perfect for travel and it was advertised as "80% increase in motor power and 100% improvement in respond speed" . Thought it was the perfect gimbal. Then in october, same year weebill s arrived, offering 300(!!)% motor power increase. Now here I am, with 3 gimbals, weebill lab is unsellable, weebill s is unreliable. A would not be surprised if weebill S2 were out in a few months ...
The weebill s does have a around 3x more torque on the low end , lab is unfortunately the experimental first gen
But it all comes down to yourself , why would you buy the weebill s let alone the lab before selling atleast the crane plus or lab or in the case of the S , why switch ? , Im not defending the weebill , but its kinda looking bad when you keep upgrading following the marketing ( where you shouldnt have )
Yep.. lol. I had the original Weebill and I thought it was the best thing in the world until it completely broke on me during a wedding. After that I never use Zhiyun again :(

Weebill S never advertised to carry heavy rigs in locked motor mode. It's just for storage. If you want to walk around in underslung mode you might as well keep it on since the motor is designed for that and will last you the day anyway. This video is a tad overboard, you can't even get that locking mechanism anywhere else, and the little firmware problems come in all other gimbals. This is pure click-bait and it's unfortunate for viewers who want something real.

My Zhiyun Crane gimbal aggressively vibrate when switched on, never again I've only used it a hand full of times I'm done done!
