I went on a little adventure today to see if it is just the Goodwill stores that are down on donations. I will take you with me to a Salvation Army and an independent thrift store called Castaways located here in Las Vegas. Let's see if it is just Goodwill that is lacking donations or other stores as well.

Now Noah, the dog hair comment. I have friend who has no pets and her little daughter came up to me and said, “You must have a LOT of hair in your house!” (Obviously echoing a comment she had heard) I said, “You know honey I think of it like this, would you rather have no hair or my puppy?” She said enthusiastically, “YOUR PUPPY!”

I have that hair dryer. I bought it in the early 70s at a catalog store for $13. Still works!

Who would say you weren’t into resale. That’s what you do! Can’t imagine watching you and not getting that. The weather here in Oklahoma is overcast. Storms and even tornado warnings. My joints are killing me, but watching you makes my day a lot better. My kind of entertainment. I have learned the value on the antique and vintage glass that I love so much.

I am in the same boat here in MO. I am almost 2 months late on my knee shots. Dr is only in the office I use on Thursdays and every time I had an appointment, we have had a snowstorm! They just opened up an after hours office and I am headed there Sat. Celebrating after with a stop by Savers lol. Itching to get out there and get shop done!

I don't give comments often, but you deserve this. You are such an intelligent, friendly, happy woman, I feel like I am visiting my neighbor! Plus you pick up what I would, so we must be junkie soul sisters! I heard you had received some negative press, so I thought I would do what I could to put up some good stuff! I find Sally Ann's here have hit the ebay pricing here. They put tons of stuff behind the counter and make a special corner area near the cash as a high priced stuff area too. I find the Mission Thrift Stores are better then SA for the colors discount. Glad it's good for you!
My first hair dryer had a red alligator case; imagine my dismay when I realized it was still faster to lay on the floor over the hot air register to dry my hair! If Noah can cook, baking browniues will be EASY! Really enjoyed that thrift shop!

I was told that stock picks up in the thrift stores around mid-Spring through the Summer. A lot of people are moving during that time, cleaning garages, etc.
I make macrame plant hanger and sometimes use lid-less teapots as planters. It's a really cute look.

I made macrame plant hangers too! Mine just accomodated regular pots though. I made Santa wall hangers for EVERYONE in the family in the early 70's too! Great memories!

That's cool that you found a jewelry box from Ghana. I came back with one when I was 17. I went with a group on a mission trip. I just sick when I got home and a friend's sister stole it with some jewelry I had in it. If you still had that box I would sure be interested in it. It looked very nice.

At 10:57 on bottom shelf are some magnalite Wagner ware pot lids. Check out the resale prices for just the lids. I think you would be surprised.
Retired Postal Clerk here....I saw the BMC (big metal container) container you were dumping in and thought "What the heck is she doing at a postal site?"...lol Keep up the great thrifting that you do.
I don't burn candles I just open the tops and let them sit there.

I found some bed risers and used them to lift my dog's four leg hammock bed, now he can see easily out my front window as he lays in his bed. He loves his "post" as he's the 20 lb guard dog 😁

We live in a collage town. My mother in law manages apartments for years! When it was move out month the dumpsters were full! Of brand new things or very good things that could have been donated. People just are not donating like they use to. Or maybe it’s just these collage kids. Lol

Hello Dani and Noah. Happy day, happy shopping. We had a beautiful day in Northern Michigan today, I was so excited and ready for this. I'm aware that we will probably get more cold weather before it really starts to warm, but it was beautiful today

The cute plush Pig is from the F A O Schwartz Toy store. The Toy store was originally on 5th Avenue in Manhattan and has relocated to Rockefeller Center. In Business for more than 150 years it is the most iconic toy store in the world. Duncan's Toy Chest in the Home Alone movie was actually FAO Schwartz. The piano scene in the movie "Big" was filmed there and visitors to the store could jump on that Piano mat if they wanted to. Several other movies were filmed there including the Smurfs. The store is so unusual you can actually purchase tickets to visit it while in New York City, because sometimes the store reaches capacity.
I think people are waiting for good weather and instead going to have yards sales to make a little money.

For a good while there, Goodwill & Salvation Army were not doing the big truck pick-ups. They still may not be doing pick-ups to date. Maybe that's catching up with them now. Enjoyed the video. Thumbs up! 😊

I can give a little insight but probably only applies to my area in Michigan. I work at a small local thrift store, not a big name, and our donations are down at the moment but I am attributing it to to rather harsh winter we've had and I don't think people have gotten into their "spring cleaning " yet. Our donations usually dwindle after Christmas until late March but they do seem a bit lower this year most likely because of the colder weather.
My family had that hairdryer. My mom, sister and I all used it. I had waist length hair. I remember wearing the plastic bonnet that came with it and sitting on my bed drying my hair for hours while doing homework or reading. I also used to take the bonnet off and just use the hose, that was like a low power blow dryer. One thing to be careful of with all older hairdryers and other appliances that get warm or hot is asbestos. Up into the 1970s asbestos was used in many hairdryers, toasters, electric coffee pots, etc. The metal coils that heat up inside the appliances are frequently wrapped around various asbestos covered materials. In the 1970s there was a big nationwide recall on hairdryers. You turned yours in for replacement, if you didn't do that you were urged to throw your hairdryers away. The public was also informed how to clean the bathrooms in which people dried their hair. My family thew out all of our dryers but my parents opted not to clean the bathrooms or other rooms we'd dried our hair in. Mom also had to stop using the still functioning beautiful toaster she'd received in the 50s as a wedding gift. Because we found out that model contained asbestos and released fibers onto the bread and into the air when in use..Mom still has the toaster, and it works wonderfully well,, but she can't use it. I tested it outside on the porch to see it work once more. Mom also can't use her beautiful ceramic dogwood pattern electric coffee pot and some other beautiful still functional old items because research indicates they release asbestos fibers when in use. I think it's amazing how few people remember that big recall in the 70s and how few people are aware of how many items contained asbestos in the past, items that are still dangerous to use. Being a hairdresser is never mentioned as one of the occupations in those public service type announcements for lung diseases resulting from workplace asbestos exposure, but it should be. Anyway, be careful people.
Good morning from Florida, glad you stopped off at Salvation Army. I get better bargains there than Goodwill. Monday, 50% off seniors, bric- a- brac, half off on Wednesday, Thursday 50% off on clothes. I'm sure they have the same sales there too. Love your videos, Joyce
Well I'm not a resaler but my sister and older son and somewhat my husband is they resale on ebay itsy marcari and actually do UA-cam sales like you do and they're having trouble finding in thing in the thrift stores or salvation army or the GCF store so they kinda went on a trip all three of them in one truck because of the price of the gas ⛽ now so anyways the drove 60 + Miles to get to the next couple of towns over and didn't find much there my sister Debbie said they spent more money on gas than on anything to sale so I think it's everywhere we are going to some yard and garage and estate sales on the 18th and Saturday hopefully they find something . God bless you hopefully it starts back being better for you and everyone .

I have had my dryer for years too. I bought it new.
We have eco thrift stores here in Northern Cali. Maybe they are in other parts of the country. Not sure. They are always stocked. Almost too much. Prices have gotten higher though. But very well stocked. The goodwills are kinda sparse. I was told manpower. But I'm thinking due to the horrible inflation right now. We are gonna see more yard sales.

I got a similar hairdryer for my birthday when I was a teenager. I had/have such thick hair, it even took forever to dry with that thing and I was stuck sitting at the same place. I would rather have wet head and air dry

What I have had happen is Salvation Army denying some donations. Last time I was at Savers there was a line of people trying to drop donations. Also Savers will give a 20% coupon when you donate.
Hi Danni the FAO BABY pink pig at 35:18 is probably from FAO Schwarz…a high end & large toy store in NYC. It’s the store where Tom Hanks & Robert Loggia dance on the floor pad piano…iconic scene in the movie “Big.”

I read an article on goodwill. It read with the winter starting late they had less donations. They also had a spike in sales in the last few months than they had in the last seven years. They can’t keep up. They are asking the community to please donate.
Will never donate to Goodwill, they are asking eBay prices, RIDICULOUS

I know that post office quite well on the south side of the street by the McCarran East/West runways! Wish I was still around there. i would love to come work for you Danni, but alas. Love the MOD hair dryer. We had one like it when I was a kid and it may have been our most used appliance! Lol!
I think a lot of people won't support the large corporate thrift stores because of their politics, and I understand that, but I get treated well at both of mine, so I still support them. I went to the one that supports our local humane society that just moved to a new location a couple of days ago. Seriously, there was hardly anything in there, and I do mean, hardly anything. They had four young ladies working, and they were just standing around chatting. I did ask why they had so little to sell, and they said they got rid of a ton of stuff that had just been sitting around in their old location for a long time. I guess it went to the area land fill. Very sad...

What a neat trip, and a gem of a store with a focused mission. I really like that you take the time to showcase and shop at some of the smaller stores, since promotion is a great thing for their causes! We tend to avoid SA here because the prices are ridiculous, priced for the discount day, and the messaging of the local organization has been anything but inclusive as of late.
I live in southeastern Wisconsin. My town has Bethesda thrift, a small St. Vinnies & a new Christian Charity thrift........all filled to overflowing. Can hardly slide clothes on rack to see them better. Don't see a problem here. You put something in buggy & it's space is filled before you leave the store....real good prices too. They don't look up how much most things are worth. Except electronics at Vinnies.
KNow what you mean about the absolute dearth of things on the shelves at our local Savers...even though there have been masses of donations to their store. They have shipped out five HUGE pallets of books the last time I was there. Not sure where they or the other bins of things were going, though. Our new Goodwill is a very small store, but the have more packed shelves and a better quality of stuff a lot of the time. Nothing compared to what you find, though. LOL

my mom wanted bed risers... I told her that she didn't... she kept repeating that she wanted them and kept telling me that she wanted them... well... she went to the store and got them... after having to jump into the bed she decided she didn't want them... I just gave her the "I told you so" look and she rolled her eyes at me... lol...

We have a postal hub/sorting facility in my small town but it still doesn’t seem like mail travels any faster! Lol

I’m wondering if people are selling there stuff themselves rather than donating it. I know it’s been tough that past couple of years.
Ours in several towns are restricting donation hours, making it way less convenient for me to give them stuff. This is a hangover from covid. I asked why their stores were looking a bit bare...they were all overwhelmed in 2020 at beginning of lockdown so they stopped accepting donations. As they started again, they limited donation hours due to staffing shortages and it hasnt picked up so much again.

That Hallmark snowman candy jar at 21:54 is supposed to play a tune when you pick ip the lid. It does have an on & off switch if you can feel it under the gel. If it doesn’t play & it’s turned on it may just need a new battery like mine does. It’s super cute when the music plays!
