I'm amazed!! Is this a specific acrylic medium for enamelling or can I use any acrylic medium? I have Golden brand acrylic media. I don't have a kiln so I'd be firing it. Thanks.
I could not find these pink stencil from cool tool,,the blue one I bought are a bit too big in design for small pieces of jewelry ,,so where can I buy the pink one. Thanks
Hello, the pink silk screens are Helen Breil Silk Screens. They show a black and white graphic on the website so you can see the design, but the actual silk screen is pink. You can find them here: www.cooltools.us/searchresults.asp?Search=helen+breil+silk+screen
I agree about her cuff bracelet! I couldn't take my eyes off of it so I had to go back again and watch the video and not fixate on Jan's bracelet. Has she made a video or book that explains how she made it?
Hello, you can use what ever temperature was used to fuse the enamel that you applied the mica to. When mica is fired on a piece you basically just re-fire the enamel to accept the mica. 1400 - 1450° F is always recommended. Hope this helps!
Hello, our mica powders are pure micas that contain no animal products and have not been tested on animals. They are exclusively sourced from ethical supply lines.
Hi, we are not familiar with which micas are used in soap, as we are a jewelry making company. You can find our mica powders here: www.cooltools.us/Mica-Powder-s/2744.htm Thanks for watching!
Hi Jan. I was wondering if you have had success using this technique with any other dry or wet unleaded enamels in lieu of the mica. Thank you for your help.
Hi Jill, we reached out to Jan regarding your question and she answered: "If you can grade sift the enamel so it is very fine, it can be treated the same way -what goes through a 325 mesh sifter. The particles have to be small enough to pass through the mesh of the screen. The sunshine enamels work well but it uses up quite a bit of the material" Hope this helps!
@@cooltoolsvideos I was wondering if Thompson liquid enamels for brushing (they are very fine particles) could be pushed through the screens. They can be mixed from the powder to make a thick enamel "paste".
@@jackberry5757 Hi Jack, we have not tested this; however it sounds like something that would be feasible. Because we have not tested this, we cannot guarantee that it would work. Thank you for watching.

Hello, This technique of applying mica can only be done to enameled surfaces, it will wipe off if there is not enamel underneath the Mica for it to fuse to. Karen
Hi thanks for sharing this tutorial. Can you help me out please. I used the recommended thickening gel with black mica powder (I had at home) over a white enameled piece of copper. When I torched the piece to set the black silk print, I lost the black color and what I was left is a shimmering pearlescent image (the black print was lost). Did I heated the too long? I fired until I was bright red. Does that happen with all mica powders? Another question for enamel can I use the the recommended thickening gel with Thompson’s powder liquid enamel? I’m trying to practice with what I have at home, before I go down this rabbit hole. This looks so much fun! Much gratitude!
Awesome, I have a set of many colours of mica and lots of stencils. I am going to have a play.
I echo Pauline. Your bracelet is just beautiful and so is your necklace.
Thank you for another fun project to try!
This is so great! Thanks Jan and Cool Tools for these great videos! Can you do crackle enamel next? 😁

If you use silk screen medium, it will not burn off in the kiln it will all stay on the product
