Well the president is "Commander and chief" that controls military actions and actually having someone with ACTUAL EXPERIENCE in the military is good. Like would you give a drunk or rage filled civilian nuclear codes or a cool headed veteran? They actually know what to do in military situations and not get advisors talking over their shoulders every 5 seconds. That aspect of "Military" has sort of been shadowed over the years. Of course the president isn't ALL military but the other 2 houses are supposed to be the "Main" government branches.
Trump was a cadet in an elite military academy though which would if he had enlisted had him start of as an officer so that's got to count for something
