      In the show they have often changed some names to avoid confusion among characters. Probably they just kept calling him “Ser Gregor” to keep him apart from the series’ other and most recognizable Robert (Baratheon). And yes, in the books is heavily implied that Ser Gregor = Ser RS. Even without the show’s confirmation every reader knows who he really is (was?)

She has killed alot of people just because they disagreed with her, so no one should pity her if she dies. The same goes to Jon Snow. Every character in this series has killed other people just because they had different ideas or morals so you shouldn't pity any character in this show. I don't think Cleganebowl is in conflict with Sandor Clegane's character arc. I think Sandor Clegane finally bringing his brother to justice only after renouncing his hatred and bitterness and possibly without knowing or needing to know the identity of this monsterous man standing before him who must be brought to justice would be some brilliant dramatic irony, and indeed characteristic of gurm's writing. It doesn't matter that Robert Strong is Gregor to Sandor, because Sandor fights nobly now and not for selfish reasons such as vengeance.
    I personally don't think the reader will ever see definitive confirmation of many of the things so deftly suggested by Martin in A Song of Ice and Fire, or I prefer to imagine that I guess. Perhaps Sandor will kill Gregor, without him or even the reader ever knowing for sure Robert Strong's identity.

    • @Phoenix00Knight
      @Phoenix00Knight 9 років тому +7

      DinoDudeDillon Underrated statement and I totally agree. Sandor, after finding peace and a purpose can still gather the will in his heart to do what he feels is right by putting down his evil monster of a brother. Being a changed man I don't know if he'll still be able to tolerate leaving his brother to continue causing madness throughout Westros.
      He'll finally have a noble cause worth fighting for. Worth dying for. This could be "the Hound"'s ultimate redemption.

    I can't believe you didn't mention that in the books, Robert Strong is HEADLESS! The Martells received Gregor Clegane's skull, and Robert Strong never takes his helmet off. It can also be linked to one of Bran's vision in AGOT where he sees a giant in an armor and nothing in his helmet but darkness and black blood. It's pretty significant, and adds a whole new layer of weirdness to the character!

    Honestly cleganebowl could be done in a way that helps Sandor's arc. Him realising that you can't just run from your past, and stepping up to fight his brother, not out of hatred or vengeance, but simple duty or even brotherly love (him not wanting to see his brother as an undead monster and wanting to put him to rest) would be a good end to his story. He stopped the person he hated most, not because he wanted to, but simply because its the right thing to do.

      Qyburn is a scientist. He doesn't care about power, what he wants is knowledge. Resurrecting Gregor was just one of his experiments. The point was to learn, to develop his skills. But he doesn't actually need Gregor, he has no use for a bodyguard so he gave him to Cersi.

    *WARNING! I'M GOING TO POST THE BIGGEST SPOILER THE NORTH HAS EVER SEEN!*
    (well, not the biggest spoiler, but still, be mindful if you have not seen S05E10 or read ADWD)
    I know that CLEGANEBOWL would be fantastic, but... I kinda want Sandor to remain at the Quiet Isle (assuming the Gravedigger theory is true). He seemed to have found peace there. Killing has brought him no happiness, despite his claims. Maybe he needed to be someone the world did not expect him to be. To find his own way. And dig graves and pet dogs all day long.
    What I'd want to see very badly however is SNOWBOWL as in Jon vs Ramsay. (Come on, you know Jon is not gone for good, and now that he is released from his vows it can happen. And it would be EPIC.)

      Yes. He's dead. But does he stay dead? Why did a red priestess conveniently arrive at the Wall just before he's stabbed? Why did his eyes change colour? Does this mean he wargs into Ghost? Why would they sprinkle all these R+L=J clues throughout the season for naught? And most importantly... Why would D&D get rid of Kit when he's their biggest cashcow? He's the most marketable actor, along with Emilia Clarke and Peter Dinklidge they are the three heads of the Game of Thrones dragon.

    I'm not sure if this will happen in the show but I believe the Hound is still alive. They gave him a shit load of screen time (but maybe this was just to get more Arya development in there i.e her learning to kill people) and, also, when Arya is asked by Jaqen H'gar about her life, she says she hates the Hound and he strikes her for lying 3 times. I've also heard the theory Ser Robert Strong is a shadow baby. In short, it's because Qyburn learned from Marwyn who has access to all of this weird knowledge, and the reason why Qyburn needs the women Cersei provides him with is to conceive the shadowbaby using what remains of Gregor's body and jam the thing into the white armor.
    Obviously it can be explained better than this, but the forums are down so I'll try and link the full theory later.

    • @gorgolyt

      Creature Sheperd It does fit Damphair? Being an Iron Islander automatically means that he's a fighter, and he did fight in the Greyjoy Rebellion for instance. His personality in the books is certainly not a fun loving drinker. "Gruff" is the right word. Though it's not for Meribald.
      Alt Shift X Not really, Damphair's sermons and rituals are also very popular with the populace of the Iron Isles?
      It also seems rather unlikely to me that they'll devote time to Meribald when he's an isolated character with little narrative function. The Damphair on the other hand is fairly important for fleshing out the Kingsmoot for one thing. It's clear that the Iron Islanders will be appearing again so one presumes that characters like Damphair will be there to flesh it out.

    I can't be the only one to get this impression, but I don't think I've seen it or heard it mentioned anywhere else: I can't be the only one to remember that bit about Cersei's bounty on Tyrion, which resulted in someone delivering the large, oversized head of a grotesque dwarf that I think we'd briefly met elsewhere in the story, in Arya's story or in that cruel farce of jousting dwarf "kings" staged for Joffrey's sick amusement, and which didn't fool Cersei or her advisors... I seem to recall Qyburn taking the head away because he might "have a use for it", and then the descriptions of what the poison was doing to the Mountain seemed to hint that there was considerable damage to his head. In other words, I get the impression that Qyburn "Frankensteined" this "Robert Strong" together from the Moutain's body, and the grotesque, oversized head of a dwarf - what a sick little joke of an unearthly fate to inflict upon the Mountain after all the nice things he's done in his life!

  • @Jaaamessss

At the same time things are getting really bad at the Wall as factions are being formed within the Night's Watch. Eventually Olly leaves in search of Mellisandre and Jon Snow, hoping to redeem himself.

    What happened to the head of Robb Stark? I ask because Robert Strong's face is covered and a large skull was sent to Dorne. Wouldn't it be the ultimate jaw dropper if the helmet was removed and the creature had the body of the mountain but the head of Robb Stark?

    Yes, Robert strong vs gravedigger would be wonderful. The big brother vs the little brother.And little brother would kill Cersei after killing the big brother, fulfilling the maggy's prophecy of Cersei's death.

      Don't think D&D don't bend to the will of the fans a little. If they see an opportunity to appease to the majority, they will. Sandor was so talked about, they didn't really have a choice. I'm not saying he wouldn't have come back without all the fan support, but these guys are reading blogs and reactions. I'm sure they get a lot of ideas of where to go with certain scenes there.

    • @spartko247

      Ashstrodamus1
      Sandor was so talked about because we never saw him die AND because he's probably still alive in the books. I don't know what exactly your point is here..They can do whatever they want, they in fact do have a choice. It was their choice to kill the Mannis, to burn his daughter, to make Lem look like an asshole, whatever. This is GoT. If they want to keep a character dead, they can. It's what the series is known for.

    I disagree. As we could see from the show currently, both lead female characters have obtained their knights Sansa and Cercei. The only person who would fit to find Mountain is Brienne.

    There is a problem with Book!Robert Strong though... Gregor's skull is sent to Prince Doran when the former dies... so whose head is on the Mountain's body? Assuming Doran got the real skull. They simplified it in the show though, his head was never separated from his body.

      Copperbeard well they had a lot of severed dwarf heads, and dwarf heads are quite big, i think Doran got one's skull

    • @akrybion
      @akrybion 9 років тому +9

      Copperbeard Could be that Book-Robert has no head at all, I think there is even a dream from Bran in book 1, where he sees a giant man without a head, who sprays black blood. It's also said that no one ever sees his face in the book.

    • @1Paraj
      @1Paraj 9 років тому +3

      Copperbeard Qyburn told cersie to leave the dwarf head presented to her. Said he could "use it for his work." I assume he replacced gregor's real head with it. Not to mention the dwarf's head was dead and pale, this "mountain's" head looks dead and pale.

    • @TheMeanMongoose
      @TheMeanMongoose 9 років тому +5

      1Paraj
      Good catch! Having a dwarf's head on the body of the largest man in the world (save for actual giants) is a bit morbidly hilarious. It sounds like something that Qyburn would do.

    Did the Lannisters not send the head of Sandor Clegane to Dorne as proof he was dead? I know he may have been reanimated without a head, hence why he never removes his armour but odd it wasn't mentioned in this video

    If #Cleganebowl2024 is going to happen, maybe Sandor won’t be fighting out of revenge but out of a desire to seek justice rather than vengeance.
    Alternatively, we could maybe see how much the vengeance no longer means anything to Sandor. That he is doing this out of obligation rather than any meaningful reason.
