Bikepacking Korea’s east coast

- Опубліковано 6 вер 2024
- A bicycle adventure to the east coast of Korea. A luxurious bus ride (isn’t that an oxymoron?) with my bike in the luggage compartment. A beautiful pine forest lined beach with a clean bowl club of Makguksu.
The much anticipated Rivendell Atlantis bike check! I forgot to mention the Nitto Big Back Rack and the Nitto Front S Racks.
Some amazing bikes lanes along the coast before I headed inland for some step climbs and some wild camping. Beans on toast for dinner and a coffee outside for the morning pick me up.
A lot of people ask which camera I use for the riding shots. It’s an Insta 360 go 3:

Buddy you are really crushing these. Loving them so much. Keep up up and also don't burn out!
Thanks! The filming part is easy because I ride my bike every day. The editing takes time but I’m enjoying it!
*me finishing the video* "clean video club"
Yes! You reached the bonus Clean Bowl Club reserved for those who watch the whole video. Thanks for watching.
You're so cool and chill. This video is so therapeutic man, very peaceful
I never thought this would be the description I’d receive the most when I started making these videos but I’m happy with it. Thank you!
liked before even watching the video! I can already tell this is gonna be grand.
Same here!
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed it.
I always rewatch these videos later the same day, they're just so soothing and unique
That’s amazing. Thanks for watching twice!
한국을 방문해주셔서 감사합니다. 4~5월 한국은 자전거 타기에 아주 좋은 날씨지요. 자전거가 예쁘네요.
감사합니다. 7년 동안 한국에서 살았어요.
@@probablyriding 😂😂😂😂😂
This is the most uphyped, natural, as it is, under equipped UA-cam channel I’ve seen. AMAZING!
Wow, thank you!
Sophisticated Korean food, classy bike, smooth tunes, baked beans on toast for dinner 😂
An eclectic mix
As an American I feel like I'm getting a taste of English and Korean culture. All wrapped up in the form of bike rides. I love it!
That’s so cool to hear. Thank you.
Your videos have become my Saturday morning routine. I enjoy them with my first cup of coffee before heading out for a bike ride. Your videos are beautiful and I love the narrations.
Love that!
There is something very cozy about your content. I can't wait for more.
Thanks!
Your videos are making me so happy! I don't ride bicycles myself, but you're making me want to :)
I'm so glad! That’s my aim.
Love your content, interesting, calming, great scenery and great bike(s)
Glad you enjoy it!
Best time spent watching, thank you. Plan to up my outdoor coffee game as your example.
Fantastic! One of my favourite things to do.
Thank you so much for creating these gems.
Glad you like them!
Been in Korea less than a year and just finished Busan to Seoul which was epic. Excited to check out the East coast trail next so this popping up for me was perfect timing. Also, I'm a James Hoffman Aeropress follower too - perfect cup every time! I hear quilts instead of a sleeping bag is the way to go. Better bang for your buck, more comfortable, and lighter. New to touring so I have some upgrades I need to make to my bike before I upgrade gear! Excited to see more of your videos.
I’ve been in kore for ages and have don’t loads of tours but still not Seoul Busan. One day before I leave, whenever that is. Lots of people recommended a quilt. Thanks!
the road to Seoraksan is an especially beautiful ride up from the beach.
Indeed.
My new favorite UA-cam channel
Thank you!
This guy vlog like a diary
It's quite impressed
Thanks
Thanks a ton
I’ve cycle trekked every prefecture in Japan but one. Seeing your clips, I want trek Korea.
Korea is pretty sweet for cycling.
fantastic trip! the style of your vids always hit the spot for me.
Thanks!
just dropped in to this video by a chance, and you mate is enjoying east coast better than i am lol! I lived in east coast when i was a kid, and i recognize all the sightings. Was so happy to see a fine Englishman of culture(I also really like the James Hoffman's method haha.) enjoying so much. Great vid and keep up the wonderful work.
Thanks!
Another awesome edition mate! 👍
Thanks again!
Thanks again great video, love your Rivendell too, stay safe and well.
Thanks 👍
this video was awesome thanks for filming your experience❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a fantastic adventure! I enjoyed your overnighter and the journey to get to your campsite!
Thanks so much!
Thank you very much! Really enjoy every videos
Happy to hear that!
Another incredible video. Love the breakdown of your bike.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always an enjoyable experience ❤
Thanks so much!
Your videos and your voice are so relaxing and pleasant. Thankyou! Looking forward to more and more of these! 🙌
Thank you!
I’m enjoying your content more and more. I love that you manage to show such enthusiasm for your gear and experiences without geeking out on all the minute details and turning into a “wannabe bike journo”.
You really appreciate quality in everything and share your pleasure with us.
Much appreciated
Thanks.
I appreciate that! The main thing for me is having fun while riding bikes. Them being pretty with quality parts that can I work on myself, just makes me enjoy even more.
I agree 100%.
I understand your appreciation for the Atlantis. I have a 58 that I bought new in 2003. Fabulous bike. Been all over on it & it's been perfect for traveling & everyday riding.
Right on! I bet it’s a beautiful bike. Is that a Toyo made one with 26inch wheels? They’re so nice.
@@probablyriding Mine is Toyo but the 58 & larger came with 700c wheels. The 56 & smaller had 26. We found a 47 for my wife & it has 26. I think the Waterford hit the sweet spot with the slightly longer wheelbase & 650b. They are rare indeed. I rode one a few years back & it had a subtlety better ride. I noticed it but the guys at Riv just mumbled about "revised geometry " without specifics. Waterford couldn't make the chainstays as long as Grant wanted was one reason they moved production to Taiwan. My Atlantis has been such a faithful & reliable companion that I'll never part with it.
Thanks for the info. Atlantises are for sure forever bikes. I love the geo of mine with the 650b wheels. I have the Clem with the super long chainstays already so it’s nice to have the slightly shorter Atlantis. The lugs are beautiful too.
Another wonderful video. They never fail to put me in a better mood.
I’m so happy to hear that. Thank you!
Thankyou for posting , Loved it 👌
My pleasure 😊
Beautiful bike! Thank you for sharing your journey.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love the vibe and aesthetic of your videos! Beautiful soul bike rides. Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate that!
Just recently found your channel - really enjoy watching your daily/weekly adventures. You have such a calming energy and so do your vids. Thank you for sharing your life with us! :-)
Thank you so much!
The quality of these videos is subscription worthy. And the vision, creativity, and production is 🤯. I can tell you take a ton of pride in your work. This channel deserves all of the love it gets and then some. Much love from Fresno, CA!
That is some amazing praise. Thank you so much. I appreciate it!
Really enjoying this video. I hope to stay in Korea for a few months next year, and this makes me even more excited. Thank you!
Thanks! Have fun!
Keep up the great videos! Love your channel.
Thank you! Will do!
That descent was soooooo good! 🚴✨💞
⛰️
Awesome video again. Really enjoyed the laid-back and relaxing vibe. Wholesome! Thanks for taking us along your rides and showing us your gear! Very interesting for a "gear head" like me. ;-) I loved the random appearing 'Weihenstephan' beer sign at 13:06, I recommend tasting thier beers. That with the Bayern Munich - Arsenal match. There are two references to Bavaria. Cheers and greetings from Munich in Bavaria! Ben
Danke schön!
New to the channel I love this kind of content. Your inspiring me to build my dream bike I like the style of the bikes you ride. More power ✊✊✊
Welcome aboard!
I use an Enlightened equipment quilt for bike camping. It's really small but warm
Nice. Thanks for the recommendation.
Very peaceful bike vlog. I like it.
Glad you liked it
Love your videos! I have a “new to me” 90s specialized hardrock frame and my summer project is to rebuild it so it’s like your Rivendell! Functional but also with a cool looking form.
Those Hardrocks are some great bikes. Perfect for some swept back bars and a few small updates. Enjoy!
Loving your adventures mate. Keep em coming
Thanks, will do!
Love your window into the Korean countryside and culture. Great bike, great coffee and great content. Thanks
Thank you very much!
I was randomly recommended one of your videos about a week ago and you have a new fan! I’m inspired to build a new bike like your atlantis 😊
Awesome! Thank you! I hope you get to build a sweet bike!
Another fantastic watch. Always thought aeropress to be a faff, admittedly never used one in favour of a standard stove top pot when camping.
I think it’s easier than pour over, at least.
What NB are you riding in?
610
Love that you show you don't need all the riding gear and a 4,000,000 won bike to enjoy riding. 잘 했어요.
Very true. However, that is actually around how much my bike costs…
@@probablyriding Oh. Wow. I thought the Velo Orange frame with Hunt wheelsets would run you a bit less. Anyhow. She's a beaut! Just changed everything on my own bike frame the last few weeks. I am sad to say that I neglected it for a long while. I watched your build explanation video, and I am in the same boat anxiety-wise about the integrity of my work. I hope my workmanship will hold up when I need it to. Fingers crossed.
Ah yes, the VO wasn’t that much. Rivendells cost a bit more. Enjoy your rides!
Wow! The descending ride the end of your video felt like a dream... Excellent video and camera work. Your narration is a joy. Thanks for the wonderfully detailed bike check, too. Your Atlantis is a real beauty! Cheers!
Thanks so much!
17:00 what a beautiful place to stay over 😍
It was delightful
Loved the video , thoroughly enjoyed. That bus service is outstanding.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you so much for sharing your trips with the world. You're the Rick Stein of Bikepacking.
Wow, thanks! I’ll have to start a fish and chips empire over here then.
Never too early for a corn dog! Gah these get better and better. Keep up the incredible work!
Thanks! Will do!
perfect video with your voice and great music choice as always. wonderful director! - from random visitor and now subscriber who likes bike
Wow, thank you!
A lovely long video to start my Friday, cup of coffee in hand. Your videos are such a comforting space and only get better with every upload. Absolute quality, thanks for your content 👏🏻
Oh thank you!
Mate. That bike is stunning!! Great video thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Yay! I absolutely adore this channel.
I use a Sea to Summit Etherlite 30F degree sleeping bag, it’s super light and warm.
Thanks for the recommendation 👍🏻
I lived in Dong-Hay on the east coast near where you filmed this for a few months in 2001. Loved it. Such friendly and trustworthy people. I am really enjoying your videos and the rivendell is epic
I love the east coast. Thank for watching!
Beautiful video and music, I should go riding on the east coast this weekend.🚲
You should!
Love the hitch bicycle club! I’ll be there on the 3rd and biking the rest of my grand slam!
Awesome 👍🏻
I just found your channel, watched 3 videos and immediately subscribed. As others have said your voice and manner is so chill and soothing. As a side sleeper and someone who tosses and turns I switched to a down quilt three years ago and will never use a bag again. You need a good insulated air mattress to make it work. The Hammock Gear brand is fantastic and about 25% cheaper then Enlightened Equipment. I own both and would go Hammock Gear.
Quilts seem to be the consensus so far. Thanks for the recommendation and for watching!
Try an Enlightened Equipment quilt with the enclosed foot box.
Thanks for the recommendation 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing this adventure! Made me want to go biking in Korea. Excited for the rest of your content 🙂
Awesome! Thank you!
Try a Sea to Summit Spark 3 sleeping bag…packs super small and comfort is guaranteed 😎👊🏼
Thanks for the recommendation 👍🏻
Lol 4:22 I heard the washing machine completion song in the background and thought it was mine at home
Oops
I was also watching arsenal and Bayern. But at 3pm. Different kind of football fan abroad ha! Awesome vid!
On match days, I miss the time I lived right next to Arsenal Stadium. 5 minutes from my sofa to my seat!
I could listen to this man talk all day 😌
🥹
Someone get this man a nice little Fuji mirrorless camera or something! That campsite with the sun setting was gorgeous!
Fujifilm X100VI donations welcome 😅
Love your videos!
Two questions. Well, one question and one suggestion.
Q: how much $$$ do your bikes take to put together? Would be super interesting. And useful to know whether it's something I can aspire to or just dream about! :)
S: would be amazing to have a video about how you learnt to build bikes, whether you're self-taught or once did it for work etc. And a look at your workshop etc! And maybe even a bit about your lifestyle (work etc) that allows you to enjoy your bike in such a pure way!
Thanks again for the videos. They're a highlight of each week. x
Thanks for the suggestions. I mentioned in my velo orange polyvalent bike check that I’m self taught, mostly from UA-cam. I don’t have the luxury of a workshop. I just bring my toolbox and work stand down to my apartment basement car park!
Love your videos so much - You have inspired me to get into bikes, and I'm starting a project this summer to build up my own bike around an old MTB-frame. Getting some nice swept-back bars and friction shifters, trying to get as close to the "rivendell" feel I can get, until I can save up to buy a real one! BTW What do you use to film your rides with?
Sounds like it’ll be a fun bike! I used an iPhone and insta360 go 3 www.insta360.com/sal/go-3?INRL3L3
What a beautiful bicycle you’ve got!
Thanks!
Loved it Marcus! I'm also in the process of planning an overnighter soon, your video makes me even more hyped for it. haha. Damn, I've got the same saddle that I bought last year, and I didn't recognize it from your video. Mine needs more breaking in haha. As for the sleeping bag, highly recommend "CUMULUS", made in Poland stuff. Super warm. Super compact. Not too intense on the wallet. Keep it up! :)
The saddle is unrecognisable! Comfy from the first ride until now and still going strong. Thanks for the support and advice 👍🏻
Peaceful vibe, I
Thank you, I’ll keep going 👍🏻
Thank you for introducing my home town Seoul.
I'll subscribe. It's a good channel
Thank you! 😃
Ah the James Hoffman Aeropress technique ’swirl not stir’😊
👌
Addicted to this channel now!
Thank you!
I wish we had bike paths like that here where I live. I don’t think I would ever be home except to sleep.
They’re pretty nice for the parts they’re there!
Like the bit of history in this video :)
Thank you. I’ll leave the rest to people more knowledgeable than me about it!
nice!🚴♀
Thanks!
Favourite channel!
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Even looking at it is healing.
Thanks
Love the bike, the Paul components is quality stuff
Yeah, Paul stuff is the best
Loving the pace of your vlogs- not me at all! However, rides are there to chill to, yes?
I have a 51cm Mk 3 Atlantis with 650b and looong chainstays. Yes, a forever bike.
For camping, I use a Rab (yes, non-budget) sleeping bag that's rated to around 5 degC, so useful most of the year. It weighs around 650-700g and packs really small.
I add a silk liner/down (hoodless) jacket and/or merino leggings to regulate its effectiveness during the seasons- but not for Winter use.
I have had this bag for 20 years, washed occasionally. 😂
I reckon any decent bag/quilt will work but weather in the UK is so unpredictable, Ilike to have options.
Thanks again.
Thanks! That sound likes a very nice Atlantis and the sleeping bag sounds pretty sweet too. Like a lot of things, you probably get what you pay for. I think I’ll splash out eventually.
wow what a beautiful video :) stay safe! have fun in korea!
Thank you! 😃
Could only be made more perfect with the addition of brown sauce 😊
Brown sauce a must if I had a full fry up!
Hey dad, can you do a kit check next? Like a short ride bike stuffs
Dad?! Can include that in a future video. Thanks for the suggestion.
Enlightened Equipment quilt (or any down camping quilt) packs up quite small in place of a big sleeping bag.
Thanks for the recommendation 👍🏻
Those roast potatoes are lethal, so tasty 👍
🥔
Agismax slpg bag packs small and is warm enough for summers your dinner was great just missing weiners for that 🇨🇦 camp mesl. Lol. Very very cool bike and relaxing posh cool kit
Thanks for the recommendation 👍🏻
No bell on those cycle paths? 😂. Amazing video as usual and another reason to love South Korea.
Edit: my wife and I were disappointed that you did not show how you toasted your toast.
Haha I thought they’d jump morning rang the bell.
More toast content request, noted.
Thank you for sharing, amazing views.
Thanks for visiting
Another amazing video!
Thanks again!
I grew up with beans on toast. 🧡
Comfort food.

You have excellent taste.
