Awesome series, loving it! One thing I found that works quite well for an extra buffer, is to have storage on the side of a conveyor belt, and one sorter going in and another going out to the same conveyor belt. That way items just pop in and out if there's space on the conveyor, if not it fills up the storage :)
Why would you want buffers though, other than being able to take some bits out for personal use? Its not like you need to smooth inputs because they come in irregularly like trains in factorio.
@@MoDlegion 1. Increases throughput in general due to having a longer queue, especially if your power drops below 100%. Extractors/Smelters/assemblers take a lot of power they slow down massively. 2. Science matrix, I struggle with creating hydrogen for red cubes. In between researches, this gives me a backlog of cubes to churn through. 3. Stoage when you just a couple of things for manual creation. Especially good in the early game.
On the splitters, the one thing they do is if you press the tab they change the shape , so for example some ports on top some on the bottom. Thanks so much for this and the other videos. I truly enjoy watching them
If you happen to build a solar farm at the pole(s), here's a little tip for size I discovered: A radius of 10 Solar Panels at minimum spacing will put the output of the "tail end Charley" panel around 20% during solar minimum, while the star is on the opposite edge of the planet from that panel. You can extend the radius of panels farther if you wish, but those at the edges will give even less output when shaded by the planet. 20% seemed like a reasonable low limit for efficiency, and you still get HUGE power outputs from a field of that size. Just wanting to help make your future construction easier and more effective.
Just in time for more Biffinspiration! Loving the series so far! BTW, not sure if you mentioned or are aware already, but if you press TAB when on the splitter, it will give you a few other designs to choose from.
I am absolutely loving this game. Taking my time. Automating everything, and I mean everything... smelters, assemblers, storages, belts, sorters... everything lol. Hoping when I get to the point that I have to take over another planet I will be able to carry "more for less" so to speak.
Hey Biffa, thanks for your great videos 😉 I followed you over from cities skylines .. I would never have looked at this game if it wasn't for your videos I saw 👍😎 Just a little hint: you should go for "X-ray cracking" as first technologie with red cubes. This gives you "(Recipie) X-ray cracking" which conveniently takes 1 refined oil and 2 hydrogen and produces 1 graphite and 3 hydrogen. You can then feed the output of the first oil refineries into another bunch of them to get out exactly what you need for red cubes (you might need to feed 1 hydrogen from the output back into the second refinery layer as the hydrogen output from crude oil is too low).
it's so fun seeing you goofing around and having no idea how stuff works for a change. having discovered your channel when I started out on cities skylines and thinking "damn this dude is crazy good" .
There's a point you can cross where I think boosting research speed actually becomes inefficient. If you're not ready to mass produce the next research cube when your que is done, then all this is is an example of "hurry up and wait". It's really only worth it if you can keep research que'd up non stop till you reach the end.
You should use the liquid storage tanks for oil, hydrogen and such :-) - they hold 10K items. Otherwise stacks of 20 in storage will backup quickly. Love your videos - keep 'em coming :-)
Your oil extractors can supply 13 total oil refineries, so you can add those if you need more hydrogen. Also refined oil in the thermal generators is a good method for power, especially once you get interstellar logistics and build on other planets.
So I feel after five episodes I can fairly certainly say that I still don't know how I feel about this game! As someone who the second I saw Factorio years ago threw as much money as I could at it, this game just... doesn't grab me the same way. That being said, I am quite enjoying watching you play it! It's a very interesting game for sure. I like some of the features of the game and pretty graphics. Look forward to seeing you play more of this game!
X-Ray cracking is extremely useful. It takes hydrogen and refined oil to create a little more hydrogen then what you put in and some energetic graphite. Great for burning of some oil and getting some more hydrogen.
love this series biffa! i know it doesn't get as many views as cities skylines, but i love watching it at night before bed!!! bought the game, love it so far
@biffa, you should swap the storage for a splitter at the oil area, the tanks can use conveyors directly. It would increase the speed of your hydrogen moving through
@@BiffaPlaysStrategy I recommend to make an overflow system where the conveyer belt goes to the thermal generators with a storage using sorters to take the oil off that belt when there is space, so that way it wont consume your stored oil. Edit: I just noticed that you can click on a splitter to set priority direction so that would work a lot better.
Save the refined oil later for plastic and sulfuric acid instead, and the hydrogen can be used for fuel rod for the thermal generators once titanium is available

(This dumping can be compared to dumping resources into smelters and/or assemblers; they can hold a little reserve to process.)
Yea, my entire planet is a single, massive bowl of spaghetti... Just trying to keep it limping along until I start on my second decent planet, where I will go for massive t3 buss
They receive power 100% of the time on both poles of the starting planet. I've seen the panels get down to 15% power on the "dark" side. Later on with ray collectors put the on the poles for 100% signal uptime to increase efficiency.
No power plants or anything you can use to burn that refined oil and get it out of your way? Well you are building a Dyson sphere, so it's likely you will eventually tech up to being able to move resources between planets so you could set up a manufacturing planet and have the resources refined into first or second tier components on mining worlds then shipped to your manufacturing world.
