  • 2 years after the last service, it's time to get the Audi A2 back up to date:
    Oil change / Oil Filter / Air Filter / Cabin Filter / Spark Plugs all get attended to in today's video.
    There's more to a service than just changing a few fluids - especially on older cars. I also thoroughly check the car for further faults, including using VAG Com software to check for error messages and of course reset the service interval - no LongLife service any more - we're going fixed interval!

      Heavy stuff! Very dramatic. At least in comparison to the Matthew Passion... But I guess you knew that already! I remember studying ALL of Bach's music (yep - ALL of it!!!) at Uni... As a student conductor we spent YEARS learning all the recitatives by memory... I think I'm over it now and can listen to the music again without breaking out in a cold sweat! After that I learned Fauré and Duruflé Requiem by memory - MUCH better. I can still conduct them from memory today - 25 years later!
      New organ videos coming again very soon by the way!!! Corona has been pi**ing us all off over the past few weeks making it difficult to get to instruments!

    I always considered buying an A2, but in the end I got an A6 with the multitronic transmission, your video was very helpful for changing the oil myself. I was too cheap to buy the manual pump so I made one out of a garden sprayer and bits of hose. Your videos are very well put together and clear.

    Hy. The grease on the thread of the spark plugs is copper grease. The base of the spark plugs is in steel, the body of the cylinder head is in aluminium, this to avoid that the spark plugs stick to the cylinder head. Excellent video by the way.

    Absolutely brilliant I have an Audi A2 1.6 FSI.... brilliant car cannot fault it was an Astra man for many many years had a very unusual cam safe car from Astra which was why I was such an Astra man.... picked up my Audi A2 for a very reasonable price and the only problem with Audi at this point in time is the fact of you cannot buy headlights for it anymore unless you go through a breakers yard and also that every time you ring up Audi they constantly want you to come in for the check that covers your filters and your oil.... so any problems with changing your clock or understanding your dashboard lol give a message to you🤣👍 have my first oil issue hence the reason why I have watched you and will be taking away a lot of your tips I can definitely say your bookmarked for the next time that I work on her... thank you very much for doing this video I know you've helped more people than you know.... wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2023🎅🌲👍😁

    Whenever I fit a new oil filter, I do it up hand tight only. But it's always a complete sod to try and get off! They usually have no means of using a tool of any sort either, so it's just slippery hands and a lot of swearing. Or else it's stabbing it with a screwdriver and turning that.

Its not 100% level... I also have some rubbing noise while driving so I was wondering if that is normal for the 1.4 petrol or it should be straight like every other engine. Might be bad engine mount... thx for the answer and great video! Cheers

    I'm looking at buying an a2 so this was useful, however when you started the car it sounded a little 'tappety', a definate little rattle. Is that normal?

    • @GartshoresGarage
      @GartshoresGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Paul - all 1.4VW engines will sound tappety on a cold start. As long as that stops as the engine warms up a bit, you should be ok... Regular oil changes are the key. Eventually the tappets may stick, but replacing them is easy peasy and doesn't cost the earth. There are stories of failures out there, but you'll find that with any engine...
      A2's are a lot of fun and are, believe it or not, going up in value already. Get a good one (soon!) and look after it! If you go for a 1.6 FSI just make sure you put premium fuel in it - they don't like regular unleaded and will start coking up. Get a low-mileage diesel and (if you're allowed to drive it in all areas!) you'll save and save and save. The 1.4 petrol (like I have) is economical enough - we're averaging about 48mpg (UK). Can't argue with that!
