Amelie woke up, pulled out her phone and immediately got out of bed.
"Wow! It's already half past eleven in the morning. It's strange that I slept so long. It's not at all typical for a lark like me. Did last night's date have that effect on me? "
However, a flurry of warm messages from Kyle quickly snapped her back to the good mood. The girl hopped out of bed and headed for the bathroom.
Washing her face, she looked in the mirror and pondered what qualities she possessed that had won Kyle's heart. She saw herself as an ordinary girl with brown eyes and long, black wavy hair and didn't consider herself a beauty.
Amelie had met Kyle about a month ago. When he approached her in a parking lot, she was instantly taken aback. Dressed in a suit, Kyle was handsome and princely.
Amelie was immediately drawn to his politeness and courtesy, the way he spoke, and the beautiful words he used. Over the month, she fell in love with Kyle and desired to spend her life with him.
Amelie happily accepted his courtship, despite her friends' warnings that a 35-year-old man was not a suitable match for a young, beautiful girl. However, Amelie always echoed her father's words, "What does it matter what others say?"
Kyle was good-looking, kind, loved children, and was always ready to help those in need. Yes, he was single at 35, but such things happen. The only thing that puzzled Amelie was Kyle's preference for park dates.
She didn't know why it was his favorite meeting place but one day, she gathered the courage to ask Kyle, "Why do we never go anywhere else but the park? Aren't there other places?"
"Well, it's not a good time," Kyle replied. "You know, I don't have much money; I work as a loader. I'm sorry, Amelie, but you knew who you were starting a relationship with."
Amelie wasn't embarrassed. Money was not important to her. Her mother was a teacher and her father was, like Kyle, a loader. She grew up in a large and modest family, so the lack of money in the boyfriend's pocket did not embarrass the girl.
One morning, her best friend Megan called, "Hi, dear! It's been so long since we've seen each other. I miss you so much! How are you?"
Amelie answered honestly, "Well, frankly speaking, I'm tired after yesterday's evening. Kyle and I went for a walk and even went to the beach in the evening. Can you believe it, Megan? The beach looks so beautiful under the moonlight!"
Megan just grinned, "Great, so he's a romantic! But that's not why I called. Just imagine, Rachel is passing through our town, so I invited her over tonight.
Remember Rachel from our freshman year? If you're free, come over. We'll catch up over coffee."
Amelie considered the invitation. She wanted to visit and catch up with her old classmate, whom she hadn't seen for a while. But she had plans to meet Kyle for a walk that evening.
It was a pity to cancel on him, and besides Kyle didn't like changes to plans at the last minute. He took such matters very seriously.
"Okay, I'll come!" Amelie decided, weighting all pros and cons, "Such events don't occur every day or even every month. And it's uncertain when I'll get another chance to see her and you too!"
In the evening, Amelie dressed up, and dialed Kyle's number. She felt a pang of anxiety. Calling Kyle that day was more challenging for her than ever.
The phone seemed to ring forever until, finally, the long-awaited "Hello."
"Hi, honey. I'm sorry, I can't meet you today. No, everything's fine, really. My mom's not feeling well. I need to be with her, you understand, don't you?"
Kyle stayed silent for a minute before finally replying, "Well, if your mom's not well, I understand. I hope she gets better soon. See you later!"
After hanging up the phone, Kyle was left puzzled. There was a hint of uncertainty, fear, and excitement in his beloved's voice. He was self-assured and well aware of his virtues, but he was a humble man. - Розваги

I didn't really like this story. He almost made her lose her job, he lied to her, and he abandoned her and went no contact. Completely unacceptable. Hiding his wealth is one thing, but this was too much!

Nicely narrated as I've come to expect from you and I agree, the grandmother is loverly, just from a different era thats all, plus she obviously was rich or wouldn't of been able to afford rare books and beautiful figurines etc.

This was a disappointing story with a dumb ending. Most of the True Love..stories have been very good.
She should have ended the relationship immediately. Trustworthiness needs to be mutual. You must not test your partner's reliability without being ready to be tested yourself. This girl should definitely put him through the rigours of extensive tests. If he fails, then she should discard him without a second thought.

This was the worst fable yet. When my husband to be needed me to step in and go to the emergency room and handle things for him when he had been seriously hurt and his parents were out of town, I never hesitated to go and stand in for his parents. I handled everything, including getting him out of town, to his grandparents home when released from the hospital. However, I was never asked to do anything that was out of what would be normal emergency help for the man I was about to marry. Since we were planning a wedding, I had met and had gotten to know his parents and only met his grand parents, who lived out of town. I knew his family well and never had any questions about his family at all. I already knew them and felt comfortable taking care of my fiancée as needed. This story is NOT a very good one, because it is very weak all the way around! I would have been hesitant to take care of a grand mother I had never even met. I certainly would never have lied to my fiancée in order to see an old friend. I would have only told the absolute truth and if my intended didn’t like it, he would just have to get over it, or make other arrangements for his grandmother! We have ONLY EVER TOLD EACH OTHER THE TRUTH! This has worked well for our 51 years of marriage so far!
I agree with you @virginiashipp661 -she should have told the truth about going to see her friend and then when it turned out that her “friend” Megan had lied to her, she should have answered Kyle’s messages and told him the truth. I would have left once it was clear that Megan was trying to set her up with her cousin because that wasn’t fair to Kyle. BUT that doesn’t justify what Kyle did to her. He could keep his money! I would not have said yes to his proposal after three weeks of the silent treatment and lies from him and his grandmother. If that is the “honeymoon” period, imagine how the marriage will be! I’d “nope” right out of that toxic relationship.

Regardless of what others have said, I like the story. Sure Kyle should have called her, or at least texted Amelie, but I do understand what his reason was, he just wanted to make sure she loved him and not money. I didn't think the grandmother was verbally abusive, I think she was teaching her how to be a real wife, even though the mindset from the grandmother's days are different, Amalie learned a lot from the grandmother, albeit archaic. Amalie really loved Kyle and I think his grandmother also. Grandmother was a gem of information and lessons. Kyle does have a jealousy problem though, he needs to trust Amalie more, she has proven herself to him, even though the set up that her friend was trying to do with Rob wasn't her fault. Actually, I think Megan wasn't a real friend, even though they have known each other since school, it seems like Megan is the one who is looking for a rich man, maybe Megan is a gold digger, but not Amalie. Thank you for another wonderful story. I'm sorry so many people had a negative opinion on it, I think it must be my age (almost 74) that I could understand the grandmother's teachings. I myself didn't like this story. He had said he would be back in two weeks and didn't keep his word. He knew she had to go back to work it wasn't her grandmother she was telling her boss plus it was an unpaid week where she could have lost her job. She kept her word for two weeks but he didn't keep his. I would not want to start a marriage on lies and deceit. He seemed jealous than and why did he drive by her friend's house but spying on her. Sorry l wouldn't want him for a husband. Not built on trust. He put her through a lot and hurt. He could have found another way to prove she wasn't after his money. She already believed he was a loader. Time would have proven what each one was like.

In any situation were one ask a friend to take on such a demanding task with NO pay you would expect more gratitude! Kyle went way overboard with his silly test and not calling or returning calls is very disrespectful. Grandma was way too demanding pushing even her diet onto her. I don't like the story at all. Kyle's behavior during those three weeks was unforgivable. I would throw the ring at him and have him take me home. She didn't care if he was rich. His behavior is cruel, and why would it change? And his promise to pick her up in 2 weeks and only come at 3 weeks? What does that say about him. Especially when he didn't return her calls. No wonder he's not married at 35 yo. And obviously the grandmother was also playing with her emotions. Awful people.

I can only say kyle lack respects. Yes, he coukd have at least text or call once a week and also to reason out his delay knowing she has a job. It is hurtful and seriously unfair. Amelie i guess is a very forgiving person possesinga heart of gold. She has an unlimited patience for the sake of his grandmother that she cared for and grown attached to.
Maybe my return action not a revenge but just to measure how much he loves her - i would give him a lesson saying i cannot accept that ring yet i have to think it over and pray i can forgive you.
