  • A young woman ran away from her cruel husband at night with her little daughter in her arms. After getting lost in the forest, she saw an abandoned hut and almost cried out in terror.

Nancy's husband, Patrick, was 15 years her senior. She didn't want to marry him, but her parents insisted.
"What is a woman's purpose?" Nancy's mother, Rebecca, had indoctrinated her since childhood, "To bear children and obey her husband!" Arguing with her mother was futile and only made matters worse, but Nancy tried.
"What if I don't want to get married? I'm only fifteen," she protested.
Rebecca sighed. "I'm not suggesting you should marry now. When you turn eighteen, your father and I will decide whom you should marry."
"And what if I don't want to marry at eighteen? What if I want to study, work, become a programmer or an architect, or start my own business?" Nancy retorted, earning a smack for her audacity. It wasn't particularly painful, but it was hurtful and humiliating.
"Where did you get such absurd ideas? An architect? Ridiculous. Who would hire a woman?" Her mother sternly rebuked her. "A woman's place is to keep her home orderly and raise her children!"
"But you work yourself!" Nancy countered, fighting back tears.
Rebecca sighed again. "I only work because there's no place in our village where your father could earn a decent wage."
Nancy's father was a school bus driver. Each day, he transported children from neighboring villages to school and back. His job was considered respectable in their community, and his consistent pay was a bonus. However, his salary was insufficient for Nancy's mother to be a stay-at-home mom.
So, Rebecca worked as a saleswoman in the local store, a job she didn't enjoy. Her moods often affected her interactions with customers, and since the store was the only one in the village, locals had to tolerate her occasional rudeness. Rebecca's only source of happiness and hope was her daughter.
Her dream was to marry her daughter off to a wealthy man, thinking it might benefit her too. Nancy was a beautiful girl, with long, thick golden hair and big black eyes framed by fluffy eyelashes.
And she met her future husband, Patrick, before she turned 18. On the day they met, she and her mother were in the city to buy a graduation dress.
"How quickly you grow up!" sighed Rebecca, sorting through the outfits. Though simple, the dresses looked stunning on Nancy and enhanced her natural beauty.
"Well, you look wonderful. Everything suits your face. You could take all of these outfits!" the saleswoman complimented. She was a short, plump woman in her 40s with a ruddy complexion.
Obediently, Nancy tried on one outfit after another, twirling in front of the mirror for her mother's approval. She was indifferent about what to wear to the prom. Firstly, her mother would insist on buying what she preferred. Secondly, her parents had rejected her plea to continue her studies. They had already compiled a list of potential suitors and planned to address this matter seriously once Nancy graduated.
"Prom?" a pleasant male voice suddenly sounded near them.
Nancy turned around. In the light blue, knee-length dress she was trying on, she felt self-conscious under the stranger's scrutinizing gaze. He was tall, and towered over her, his broad shoulders, firm chin, and straight black eyebrows gave him an air of confidence and strength. His black eyes, even darker than Nancy's, bore into her. Nancy also noticed how the saleswoman's demeanor changed when she saw the stranger. She tensed up and started to smile ingratiatingly.

Good story but annoying she gave up her inheritance as she deserved that! Being forced to marry Patrick at a young age etc and it was her daughter’s right!

Yes, it does not make sense for her to have refused the inheritance - at least on behalf of Bonnie, and additionally she also could have used it to assist her parents in their old age.

Not because of her mother deserving it, but as a daughter she could have grown to extend forgiveness; additional to making the choice to be motivated by unconditional love. From a Christian perspective: We are called to love even our enemies, those who use, and persecute us; each eventually will be held accountable for their own behaviour.

What a wonderful story. The two evil, despicable husband's got what they deserved. Trying to kill his wife, he and his cohort came to a horrible end in a car wreck. I'm so happy Nancy and Joyce are finally free from their horrible, evil husband's. Nancy , Tyler and Bonnie will now live a happy life together. Wonderful reading as usual. You make it easy to visualize the story. Thank you for posting your interesting stories. Waiting for the next one.

    WHAT A STORY!!!!!!
AM I SUPPOSE TO FILL IN THE MISSING LINKS IN THE COMING OF THE CONCLUSIONS???????
    WOW!!! WOW!!!!
MY TAKE FOR THIS STORY IS:::::::: REBECCA, NANCY'S MOM. ALL I CAN SAY IS, SHE WAS THE PERFECT INSTIGATOR . WHEN PARENTS TRY TO CHOOSE PARTNERS FOR THEIR CHILDREN. ( They are not the ones who will be spending lifetimes or short times with their spouses. )
MADAM AUTHOR AND NARRATOR, there is so much to depict in this story but I think for me you have left me in the balance. I think there suppose to be a missing link.😢😮😢😮
