    I had to junk 3 non-running cars, tow company wanted $110 per car for a 20 mile tow. I bought this tow bar, removed the bumper, and bolted it to the bumper mount. Got all three cars, and saved $200.

    I was pulling a 96 sierra with a 04 tahoe . I experience the jack knife effect when I breaked a little to hard . Thank God the down hill wasn't bad I kept my speed at 35 mph and dropped the gear to 2nd at 2500 rpm . I drove 360 miles , tow bar was in place just like I installed it . Over all jack knife experience was new to me

    The worst thing about that towbar is if you have a bumper like you have there that's in immaculate condition you have to drill holes in it that will drastically reduce the resale value of a pristine looking truck like you got there

      I bought that yellow truck for $900 in this video here ua-cam.com/video/5oW5CM2syFQ/v-deo.html
      It has more rust and issues than it looks like in the tow bar video. Already sold around $400 of parts off of it. Plan to cut the body off and leave just the floor and firewall and bodyswap a 1951 ford cab onto that chassis. So the bumper though in great condition having a few new holes was not a huge concern. On a truck I planned to restore or keep it might have been more an issue. Thanks for watching.

      Seth, you’re right. Usually what you do in these situations is buy a junkyard bumper to swap onto and drill in to.

      Take off the bumper and bolt to the frame? ….what you you get to do on the newer stuff any way.

    You need to make yourself a trap door on that flat bed. Maybe add some compartments that lock. Just food for thought.

      Have a storage box on each side. Plenty of space for straps spare fluids and stuff I need. It is a dump bed so trap doors might catch stuff when dumping.

    Why unplug the drive shaft ? Why not just put it in neutral

    • @worthshop
      @worthshop  3 місяці тому +1

      Truck is an automatic. In neutral the pump does not spin and keep the internals lubricated while towing. So it will cause damage.

    Nice video, you are amazing, I got plans to tow my car , that’s a 78 ford thunderbird, it’s heavy enough to thinking about it, the roads are a little bit bad plus about 20 hrs drive, I got a ram 1500 and my porpoise is to pull up with the dodge, but the problem that I have the car is too low and I will going to try it to hook under the bumper, does anyone have a better ide? Thanks for the video.

    Without the rear truck brakes helping how was it going down hill? Did it start accelerating and pushing forward even when in gear engine braking? Thanks!

    • @worthshop
      @worthshop  2 роки тому +5

      Some of the downhill corners were a little scary feeling. I felt safer to slow it down going straight prior to corners. Then let off the brakes and let it coast around the corners. If I tried to brake in downhill corners the rear truck would push my rear end out and try jackknifing me. I never actually felt my rear tires slide out or loose traction, but could definitely feel that rear truck wanting to keep pushing me. Slow and steady definitely wins the race. If you get a tow bar be careful and plan to slow down prior to entering corners so the rear vehicle don't spin you out. Engine braking has a pretty diminished effect with that much weight behind me. Thanks for watching.

    So having a proper steering lock mechanism is a must for this kind of setup right?

    • @worthshop
      @worthshop  Рік тому +4

      You want to leave the key in the towed vehicle and unlock the steering so the wheels can turn freely and follow the other truck. Thanks for watching.

    How did the brakes on a truck hold up while you were flat towing?

    • @worthshop
      @worthshop  Рік тому

      No issues at all. I Hauled it down a gnarly hill to start then up over a big mountain pass. Just be careful, slow down and stop early.

    What do the cops think about this set up?

    • @worthshop
      @worthshop  Рік тому +1

      Well, I didnt do laps around any police stations to draw attention and find out... I did pass a couple during my trip without being pulled over. I was moving across the state, so it was a one time trip and not somethingI do regularly. Honestly in my experience, cops have much more important stuff to deal with these days than nit pic someone flat towing a truck. I believe the only real restrictions or rules on flat towing are that both vehicles have to have current registration. Have to have working lights on towed vehicle. Have safety chains. Thanks for watching.
