I always thought the line, “I use my best colors for your portrait” was a way to describe how she puts herself together for him. I picture, her hair is done and her makeup is on and she’s trying to get him to notice and appreciate her.
@@ToneyReactions OMG!!! 😳🤯👏👏👏 I’m gonna cry! You should see my face right now! I KNEW you would love her! Did you make a video? I’m so excited, Toney! Happy New Year, My Guy! Yes!!! 🙌
I always took that line as her painting him in good light, talking him up on how well he still treats her years into their marriage. It also ties into the bridge like how he used to treat her, now he just tolerates her.
Your theory had me 💀😂 I think people were just recommending this after Champagne Problems because it’s equally heartwrenching and descriptive, but you’ve gone full swiftie mode and made unintended connections, and I love it. That’s what creative writing (and thinking) will do to you. 😉
An interesting concept you have there, and there could be a connection. Taylor’s said she wrote Tolerate it after reading the book Rebecca, which is about a young woman marrying a wealthy widower and then realizing how haunted he is by his late wife. I personally think this may also have been an early hint that all was far from well with Joe. The fact that it got coveted track five placement and gets this great production piece in the Eras Tour (you might want to consider reacting to that too) indicates it’s incredibly personal and emotionally resonant for her. But it is interesting to consider this being a next chapter to Champagne Problems, with a guy who can’t really let go of the idea of ‘the one who got away’ after being so sure that she was the one.
The “where’s that man who’d throw blankets over my barbed wire” has definitely got to be about Joe based on the Invisible String lyrics about her mistakes being “wrapped in barbed wire” and “wool (blanket presumably) to brave the seasons). YB needs to keep himself in the basement come 4/19 when we get the piping hot ☕️
Also she says “I greet you with a battle hero’s welcome” and then in you’re losing me she says “fighting in only your army- front line don’t you ignore me” so it’s kind of giving the military battle thing
I always interpret the “best colours for your portrait” line to mean that she’s always trying to portray him in the best light, talking up his achievements etc and making him seem greater than he truly is
Her eras performance of this was mesmerizing and heartbreaking! I think you’d really enjoy seeing her perform this. I second that you should check it out when you can. ❤
This song is inspired by Princess Diana and her relationship with Charles. He never really loved her and was basically forced to marry her. Camilla was his mistress throughout their entire marriage. Taylor got into watching The Crown during the pandemic and thus Tolerate It was born.
Never thought about it like that and even if she didn't mean for these songs to be connected, I thing you make a good case. It's an interesting theory.
Yes, he's really good at breaking down lyrics & their meaning...catch'n all the metaphors, puns, double entendre's, etc. She paints a great picture, he's a great interpreter of art.😊
Hii!! Just wanted to say I love your reactions! And just to let u know: Her song „you’re losing me“ is now on streaming platforms so I am pretty sure you can upload your reaction to it again on yt. Only if you want to ofc:)
I don't think this has anything to do with Champagne Problems. You should watch the Eras Tour film for the live performance, it was like watching a play, it was so good. The whole film is so good.
I can’t help but tear up every time I hear this song. The same with Losing Me and Champagne Problems. Toney love your style and hope you do more Taylor soon. TTPD please..
I really think this one links back to Invisible Sting because she says in that song wrapped all my past mistakes in barbed wire, then in this song where's the man who threw blankets over my barbed wire?
The last decade of a long-term marriage ... this song. And then, men say, "I don't know why my wife left me." I envision a stay-at-home wife? We need a "Paint the picture, Taylor!" mid-weight sweatshirt in a slightly "girlie" color 😁! Same logo, but in white, turquoise, Eras tour color? I'd buy several!
I just watched your Justin/Stapleton reaction from a while ago. I looked, and it doesn't seem like you've seen any Queen. If you want to see a great live show, check out Queen's Liveaid show. It's 23 minutes of fantastic music! Then do a deep dive into Queen...

Oh for sure! It's a number of ways to be interpreted that's why it's so great! ... And just so you know Aurora was great!

That makes so much sense… her writing this after reading Rebecca.
Lol I know the swifties about to come for me about my theory! But I think it fits!
Omg its about Mrs. DeWinters

I look forward to your Taylor reactions, love it when you say Taylor Allison Swift and show your beautiful smile and pearly whites Good job🥰

Also she says “I greet you with a battle hero’s welcome” and then in you’re losing me she says “fighting in only your army- front line don’t you ignore me” so it’s kind of giving the military battle thing
She also nods at that theme in "the great war"!
I love your reactions!💖 You need to watch The Eras Film to see the live version of this. You will be gutted. 😢💔
I will check it out
Second this recommendation. It's like being at a Broadway show.
I always interpret the “best colours for your portrait” line to mean that she’s always trying to portray him in the best light, talking up his achievements etc and making him seem greater than he truly is
Which now I believe even more since it seems likely this was written (at least loosely) about the relationship between her and Joe
I like this!

I hope you saw her act this out on the Eras Tour. Pure gold.

I don't believe this. Its about her and ol' boy she just didn't say that bc they were still together.
@@reneesmith983 I agree, same themes for bejeweled, it's like tolerate it was when she was still holding on and bejeweled is when she's let him go
