      Fully autonomous vehicles will only work for places like Domino's who already do their own deliveries. For a company like DoorDash, sending an FA vehicle to a restaurant and expecting their employees to come outside and load it up won't work. Also, the majority of people who order food expect it to be delivered to their door, they don't want to have to go outside looking for the vehicle that has their food in it. This is especially true for people who live in apartments. Also, how is a FA vehicle supposed to get into apartment complexes that require gate codes to get onto the property?

    • @themymablo
      @themymablo 3 роки тому +13

      @@avshockey6633 These are really non-issues. Putting the order into the autonomous vehicles shouldnt be a big deal for the restaurants, and in many countries it is allready custom to meet the delivery guys outside, ESPECIALLY in big apartment buildings in Asia, where they are often not allowed to come inside. Often times the doorman picks up the order as well.

      @@themymablo As someone who worked in a restaurant that fulfilled both Grubhub and Doordash orders, I can safely day that it is, actually, kind of a big deal to leave the restaurant to load a car with food. We always had a restaurant full of customers, and if I had to run outside to shove food into a truck on top of every other task I had, (expoing and serving, cleaning, taking orders, etc...), I'd probably have fallen apart. I already had a LONG list of tasks to complete, I didn't need more crap to do, and filling a car with food does take time away from important in-house tasks.

      @themymablo 3 роки тому +6

      @@happypenguin25 Well in that case Doordash could just lower their fees a little bit so a restaurant can hire an additional busboy to just fill the cars, and they would still save more money than having all orders hand-delivered instead with an AV. Or they dont and restaurants will have to compy anyway if they dont want to lose their delivery buisiness.

    I've used DD for a few years and I just can't imagine them ever becoming profitable due to how many human errors happen. Close to half of my deliveries have mistakes. Incorrect order, missing items, wrong delivery to the wrong person, timing not lining up so the food is cold, and even just drivers spilling drinks in their car happens sometimes. The nice thing is it's easy to get your money back when an item is missing or wrong, but it happens so often I'm sure they lose thousands to millions just from that.

      I've had several drivers bring me the wrong order. I ask them to go back and get the right one, and they refuse. I'll either send a complaint to customer service, and they refund me, or I end up going to the restaurant myself to fix the driver's mistake, defeating the whole purpose. Whenever I fix the issue, I get an earful from some manager or supervisor about how it's not their fault, telling me how I should have better identified myself as a driver. I let them ramble, until I get annoyed, and tell them I am the customer, not the driver, and they should really start considering how to improve this service since it was the third time they had just passed food out the window instead of making sure they had the right order. Hell, each driver has a cell phone with the app, which displays the order number! The restaurants should ask to see the driver's app to make sure the order numbers match. Maybe then, I'll get my UberEats order instead of another person's DoorDash.

      The restaurant IS responsible, what kind of customer service is saying "sorry not our fault call Uber", the restaurant makes the food and has to make sure they give out the correct orders. Putting a bunch on some table all close together is not being responsible enough. There should be the cashier and any other front end workers to take 10 seconds to just go over, read a couple lines of text to confirm and hand the order over. 80% of stress in the food industry is due to a bad attitude and I've worked in it for years so I know.

    Stacking is when you're not paying $7-12+ for a delivery that's fresh.
    You're paying that for someone to pick up your food, then stop at a restaurant in the middle, wait 30 minutes for that food to be ready, then they deliver that food first, and then *maybe* deliver yours if it's convenient for them.

      Yup, New York, and Boston had a similar service, where a 3rd party would offer delivery to offices & college campuses. I think the main thing to note is that these services likely make the most sense & cents[dollars] in places with a high density of customers & restaurants, plus an existing takeout culture, i.e. cities. Places that are too spread out geographically, or without many local food options to start with, are bound to be money-losing propositions.

    In my experience, the fees are high. Even when they aren't explicit, sometimes the "app delivery menu" prices are secretly higher than the restaurant's actual menu for dine in and takeout.
    So after paying more, the food shows up late. And I mean LATE. I don't think I've ever had one show up in less than an hour. And I live in Seattle proper, ordering outside any significant hours of traffic.
    If I picked up the food myself, I'd have it back home in less than 10 minutes.
    I've also done a couple ride-alongs with a friend who signed up to be a doordash driver. It was a challenge to break minimum wage (he failed to both times after covering fuel). Apartments, condos, and gates are often a time waster. People that live in them don't take responsibility to meet out front, and the apps don't do a good enough job forcing the customer to provide an entry code or tell them to meet out front.
    Chefs who take pride in their food, I imagine, despise takeout, and especially delivery. Plates are supposed to be enjoyed fresh from the kitchen and even with a particular presentation.
    Overall the services generally suck. If I'm home and I want food, I'll either make it myself or get it myself. If I want (to pay extra for) food made for me, I want it served in a nice atmosphere and to be waited on too.
    Delivery apps have all the costs (and more!) of dine in, without the upsides. Still have dishes, still takes forever, still have to serve yourself.

Some of them state free delivery charge, but they have a service fee that is still charged. Because in some instances you may be ordering through one of these places and picking it up, but you are charged a service fee for using their website or app. Even if it looks like the store's website or app, it really is going through one of the other ones. Little Caesar's Pizza is really cheap (I mean cardboard cheap), but if you have it delivered, a pizza that cost $5 plus tax will cost you $15 after all the fees even using their app because Door Dash does their delivery. First one and the biggest. UberEats gets paid more, there are more perks too and depending on the area (cities usually) it’s busier. DoorDash is great for the suburbs, you usually remain busy during breakfast and lunch rushes. Big downfall for DD is pay. It doesn’t pay that well and it gets disheartening when you bust your ass as a driver for three rides only to make 12 bucks. Sometimes it’s not worth it. Biggest downside for Uber Eats: not as popular in the suburbs and slow during lunch. Both of those also had direct and immediate pay out options which GH and PM didn’t have for a while. Also the interfaces for UE and DD are intuitive and easy to use. Great customer service for drivers too (UE and DD)

      I like to order from Uber Eats the best. Mostly because they allow you to tip 0 up front and then review your driver and tip after delivery. Most of the time if you are required to tip at the same time as paying, without knowing what your delivery will be like, you will likely tip less in expectation of problems. With Uber, if I get my order in 45 minutes when it said 10 (AFTER the driver physically has the order and there is no stacking) then I won't add a tip. (WHAT were they doing in all that time?) And then if they get it to me in the time it says or less, I will give a great tip cuz I didn't have to put on pants and comb my hair lol. I don't know if the other apps allow you to edit a tip after the delivery, but if they don't, that could be why the tips are bad. People tip based on service, and they don't know if it'll be good or bad in the beginning....

  • @welltell.
    @welltell. 3 роки тому +11

    I have used them for my food business and let me tell you there are issues they all have.
    The first big one is that they charge you 30% of the cost of food you are selling, so right off the top they are taking a huge chunk of your potential profits.
    Second issue is that the drivers are not on time picking up or delivering the food and that causes issues with the customers.
    Having to refund them and losing even more profit and having it turn into a 100% loss.
    The third issue is that these food delivery companies hold on to your payouts, for 30 or 60 days and some times they do not pay you, if you do not catch it you lose it.
    The Forth issue is these drivers some times delivery to the wrong place, and again the restaurant has to endure a double loss by having to resend food a second time which is now costing a 130% loss for that order.
    Fifth issue is that if a customer complains for what ever issue these companies give 100% refunds and sometimes do not give you the option of fixing it. And you get the usual 130% loss.
    The sixth issue is that they place you inside a territory box, a radius, if you are selling burgers and there is a shop selling burgers 3 miles away, guess what any one wanting to order from you who is beyond those 3 miles can not place an order at your restaurant but that other place is shown instead because they are closer. So you lose out on potential business.
    The final thing that really pisses me off is that if a customers rate you poorly do to bad services beyond your control, your restaurant is pushed down in the search results, eventually your restaurant never shows up in the app, losing you even more business.
    Like suddenly your uber or door dash tablet stops ringing and you no longer get any orders because some stupid customer gave you a one star rating on the food app. Because their food took to long to deliver, which was never in the restaurants control to begin with.
    And then these Door Dash and Uber companies want to charge you money to advertise your restaurant to a higher positions. Like i know when i am being scammed.
    My prediction is that they will all go out of business eventually.

    Soooo many stories I could tell. I've ordered pick-up from restaurants that didn't know they were on GrubHub and from restaurants that were on the app but no longer exist. Had delivery drivers see me waiting outside and speed past me, followed by a notification that my food was delivered. Had a driver pick up my food, drive 8 miles in the opposite direction and disappear. Had a Wendy's order arrive 30 minutes late, and the driver proudly tell me is was because Wendy's was out of chocolate frosties and substituted vanilla, which she was just not having, so I got cold food and less food than I ordered because the driver wouldn't allow a substitution. Had a kid who was all of 16 pick up several orders while mine was in transit and somehow my order was not among the pile of boxes and bags in his back seat. Was charged for cancelling that order. Not to mention countless incidents of missing items and having to email the service multiple times to explain that 25% of the cost of the missing item is not an acceptable refund. Last two times I ordered from Postmates the order was inexplicably cancelled over 30 minutes before the latest delivery time. And that's just as a customer. I have to deal with drivers at the store where I work expecting me to gather a shopping list for them, and I firmly and happily tell them to do their own job themselves.
    If these companies can't get their crap together, I hope they all go belly-up.

Other than that its very nice because its usually fairly busy and I can make a decent wage around $15 an hour. Over the $12 minimum wage and I can work whenever I want, so its a win win to me.

      That is just it, a side gig a few hours some cash in your pocket maybe an emergency bill. The people screaming for full time benefits and what not make it harder because they force higher fees.

    First time seeing you cover 4 competing companies in one video. 😳 Max was like 2. This is going to be good! 😁

    I was exclusively using Favor (mostly operates in Texas, bought by HEB, the biggest grocer in Texas) until I realized that in addition to the delivery fee (partner restaurants often cost $0-3 so it looks cheap) and the driver tip, there's also a percentage markup added to each item for no explained reason.

    My wife and I don't order delivery because GPS apps hate our condo complex (real GPSs work fine though), with people always getting lost. I regularly have to tell drivers where to go if I'm out grilling, and the one time I ordered door dash I spent 30 minutes walking around our complex looking for the bag left on a neighbor's doorstep. Now we only use them when traveling somewhere with bad parking situations or when 1 person is watching my grandma.

    Please do a video on tcby. There used to be like over 1000 locations around 2010, and now it's like 300. There used to be four in my area, and now its one. Outside of my town I've only seen one other location, so what happened?

      @Allosaurus 67 tcby is a frozen yogurt chain. There are a few scattered throughout the country, and tcby used to be much bigger back in the early 2010s. It stands for "the countries best yogurt", and it's pretty good. Most like menchies more, but tcby used to be king

    I was fairly loyal to Doordash for a while but recently switched to Uber Eats and was blown away by how much better the interface was. Much cleaner design and every order I've made so far has been faster and they listen to the delivery instructions. Plus you get points towards rewards with every order. Postmates I used once my order was $18 and some change and they charged me like $23 when I asked why they said the total in the app is just an approximate I never ordered again. Grub Hub I've just never tried.

    I have worked for these services before including one called bite squad that classifies their drivers as employees and not independent contractors. From what I have observed, the drivers do pretty well. This is because most are independent contractors and usually have more than one delivery app that they are working for. I made a pretty good amount of money. The time I worked as an employee I also made a good amount but the drawback was that I could not make my own hours and because we were employees we were being paid even when we were not getting any deliveries and just setting in a parking lot. This was not sustainable and the company left the area within about a year. Another winner in this whole deal are the mom and pop operations. Even though they have to pay a commission, they end up getting a bigger reach to customers who may never have known they existed. There is a lady in my town who sells plates out of a small kitchen at a pool hall who would get orders all the time.
