Wow ! Amazing boat
Excellent video!!!
Beautiful piece of marine engineering .
j
Beautiful elegant motion, so smooth. While I am appreciating all this brilliant engineering I am admiring the designer and all the operators who are willing to risk such a fast craft in a sea where much flotsam and floating wreckage can be found at the surface. I met 45 gallon tanks and also 40 foot containers floating just level with the surface of the sea. Perhaps they are equipped with forward looking " underwater radar or sonar" Whatever the difficulties, I must congratulate these people for their courage in operating such fast crafts. Brilliant engineering all the way. That craft does not need antifouling at that speed!!
@s Why does that video have comments turned off? At first i thought wow this looks great, but i always get suspicious when comments are disabled.
Great comment sir ,good point about the submerged shipping containers floating about in the sea, it's assumed that they're seen in the daytime, BUT AT NIGHT- THEY WOULDN'T BE VISIBLE.
Very impressive, I had the chance to ride a Russian made Meteor hydrofoil down the Danube river from Bratislava to Vienna!
Great, I did the same, however from Budapest to Vienna back in the 80s.
Great shooting!Wonderful boat.
It's weird to see something that big move so fast on water! But beautiful craft
Outstanding!!
THANKS!
Like the Boeing JetFoils, although they rode a little higher. Back in 88 when I started at Boeing, my first assignment was at the Renton factory. There were still 4 going down the line, bought by Indonesia I believe.
It was out of commission soon. Last maybe about couple of years. My dad had 1 trip to Singapore from JKT. The fuel cost they say.
Higher means able to handle a higher sea state, i.e. higher waves. Rainbow 2 looks a bit low. Maybe ok for relatively calm waters.
@Jim Watson Jetfoils use waterjet propulsion, which has a water intakes near the foils and pump water out towards the back of the ship into the air at high velocity. So they don't use props. They are reaction jets with wings that fly through the water while lifting the boat out of the water.
Wowww.... Amazing....
Looks great and fast.
Very impressive
Amazing
Cool to watch!

Embarcação fabulosa!
Smart little craft, thank you.
Thanks!
Amazing vessel, wish we have Foil vessels like these in Croatia.
Although we have 5 catamarans which were operating from HK to Macau, Supercat 40m models !!
+Kristian Martinović Wow! That's great!
Are you saying the retired turbo- jet/ first ferry / cotai ex-vessels are now operating in Croatia?
The initiative to create ekranoplan high-speed vehicles using aerodynamic forces on the wing elements moving near the water surface belongs to the shipbuilder Rostislav Alekseev. Work on the creation of new technology began in the late 1950s in USSR! In 1954, Alekseev began work on the creation of the first passenger hydrofoil ship "Rocket". He was supposed to take on board 66 people. And in the summer of 1957, the first "Rocket" was launched.
A year later, the design of the second generation of hydrofoils began - "Meteors"
The first Meteor, which carried 130 passengers, was launched in October 1959. The famous boats Volga, Kometa, Sputnik, Burevestnik, Voskhod were also created in the Alekseevsky. Central Design Bureau. Every year Rostislav Alekseev's bureau presented a new project.
In 1966 year, Rostislav Evgenievich under a false name (as a designer of military equipment, he was classified, even his photo was forbidden to be published). Now you can find old documentaries of the Lun military project on the Internet. Soviet WIG Lun project 903,
in America he was nicknamed the Caspian Monster. Which reached a speed of 500+ km/h...
Imagine tubing on the back of this
Lol
rope would have to be at least 200 ft
😂
lol had this same exact thought
so cool

Omg, I love to ride on that. 2020?
sheesh, you wouldn't want to be any kind of sea creature in the way of this thing
wow so smooth. what her length and how many passengers does she hold ?
great video

I've always wondered what about the " wings" under the water ,do many things in the water now days ,durableable of those things 🤔 look very Kool though, and fast ✌
Very good fast boat
thats a very cute fish
Wow!!!
Rainbow2 moves fast over water with very minimal Drag😉 😆
Nhe baru namanya kapal cepat 👍
awesome
Been in operation since 1993 between the Japanese mainland and the Oki Islands.
I was wondering what if we've one here to cross River Brahmaputra. It will take a minute or two to cross the river which currently I travel in 20 minutes. Wonderful machine. Incredible speed. That too over water!
What a monster!!
I like
Nice video
Thank you😁
They must use a lot of juice when they are not on the plane. Having driving those wings along.
What is all that water coming out of it?
While the rest of the world steps backwards, Japan still maintains its technological advancement and care for its own people.
It's states in the description made by Mitsubishi heavy industries.

Wonder how many powers of engines the boat carry 🤔 That thing cruising
Daygum extremly fast that's nothing compared to the ferry I got from Dublin to Holyhead

Wow
Kind of a bummer for the fish and seals that like to frolic just below the surface of the water...but a quick filet helps all chefs.
Sound travels fast under water. Plus they can hear that beast coming from a mile away.

Now as the fuel prices fall it makes sense to use high performance boats planes and cars. The Concorde also could come back.
No. It use less fuel because of it's low drag. Plus it was retired 15 years ago.

A vessel on High Heels.
Rainbow terror.

0:35 Perfect!
Must be eight feet of draught, though. At 14ft, the lift would put it in Odin's fjord!
A catamaran-hydrofoil? Looks sketchy but cool
there is no other way to make such a big thing fast...
Damn son
Not any parameters or characteristic; such as ship speed, engine type and power, range and sea conditions till possible run on full speed.

Development USSR 1959 year,
In the Soviet Union, a ship was made and launched in 1962, which reached 500+ km / h on the water...

Holy crap how many HP does it take to do that? A good 2000? That's beyond the ability of diesels?
Uses 4 diesels to drive 2 waterjets. Each of the 16-cylinder engines has a maximum continuous output of 2100 kW at a maximum speed of 2000 r/min. The speed maxes out at 45 knots.
2100kw = 2800 hp
so 4x 2.8k
= 11, 000 hp roughly
Brian Anthony: Correct specifications, however I can't see where are the water inlets for the W-jets. Furtermore, as far as my knowdeldge, the outflow of the W-jets must be as near as possible to the waterline, just below, for efficience reasons, never on air, like that craft seems do. Have you more information about it? Tks you.
IDLJB
I really cant see how w ater jets can work squirting into thin air but i'm no expert.
Like youid have said they must be immersed to work properly..
Not sure where you got the fact the 2000hp is beyond the ability of diesels, there are plenty of marine diesels well over 200hp, especially in a vessel of this size.
