Not sure how common it is in boating circles but in the pro audio community we LOVE tech flex wrap for cables. Not expensive and looks so much better than zip ties. I think I’ve seen a similar product for OB rigging with Velcro closure too.

I use velcro wrap in many places on my boat . It has hooks on one side and loops on reverse. You can easily unwrap your cable bundles and make changes and rewrap.
Your workmanship is awesome, mine ehhh. I just rewired my 2006 KW 1720 I wish I had seen your video first before starting, My layout is different and if I had to do it again I would have followed yours to a T because it looks so clean. I could not afford the custom dash and looks nothing like yours but I did with the budget I could afford. I sanded the stainless dash insert and sprayed it with truck bed liner, I hope it lasts. If anything I have learned from your videos is PULL ALL OF THE WIRING OUT AND START FRESH. I have had tried to get by with doing the minimal changing of wires but in the end ended up changing everything. A hard lesson learned. Keep up the fantastic work!!!!
I also have a Key West 1720 Sportsman and the original wiring looked just like your original wiring. I had the same original fuse panel too. Took that out real quick and used a 6-way fuse panel. The wiring for my switches was a mess and I only have 4 switches lol. When I couldn’t figure out how all the wires were connected, I just ripped it all out and rewired it the right way; with marine wire too. Now everything works lol
I also own this boat and love it the original wiring plus what the previous owner had done was a nightmare and your video has inspired me to rewire mine! My only question is is there a difference between using a fuse panel instead of just the distribution blocks that you have in your CC
What a great video. My wee 'Pocket Rocket' has a couple of intimidating birds nests of wiring with so many confusing connections. All squashed into the console. I know I have to deal with it but I have been putting it off. Your video has inspired me to make a plan and get to it. One thing that amazes me though is just how much wiring, circuitry and switches there are on small boats. I guess that's a consequence of trolling motors, fish finders, accessories, etc. Thanks again for posting this inspiring video.
Awesome video Aaron as usual. Now I noticed how to go about using two/ three core cables vs single strands and bridging the positive to the actual switch, hehe. Use a dam direct busbar or whatever it's called 😅.
Depends, a lot of time West Marine because we have Port Supply and that gives us the best price, but also sometimes from Land N Sea, depending, prices are always fluctuating

Depending on how far the distance was, and are you using LED lights? 20 is definitely light, but, if not too far and using LED then you should be alright, they don't draw much amperage so the wire should be able to handle it. You can always turn them on and leave them on for an hour or 2 and see if the wire gets hot if you are doubting it a lot.

Lol, after recording over a few month period you forget how many times you say something lol, I was looking on how to remove more "outstandings" from the edit lol
Sure don't, lol I make it all up as I go, I like to assess it once in the beginning and get a picture of what all we want to do, what all the parts are going to be and then kind of lay it out like that :) Wish you the best of luck on your project though! A 16 won't be too bad at all, almost identical to what this was :) depending on how far you want to take it. We try to keep up with as many comments as possible, but if you would like some cheap assistance in thinking out your project, you could look into our Boater's Program where we have messaging and a place to upload pictures and videos and then we have a weekly livestream where we can talk about whatever you want to discuss! Just something to think about whenever you start your project! www.bornagainboating.com/
I have almost this exact boat and have the same mess of wires. I wanna do this exact thing but have almost no experience wiring, if you have a more in depth guide on this I will go to your website right now
Hello George, that's awesome! It's a really nice boat! No worries, we do have a way more in depth guide on how to do the wiring of your boat. From electrical basics to wiring, that is exactly what is in the Boater's Program, there are 90 some course with hundreds of lessons all categorized and organized to make them easy to follow, understand, and searchable. But it's more than just the courses because there is also messaging and what not so you can upload pictures and videos and we do a weekly live stream where we can answer and give any thoughts on whatever you would like to talk about. We just redid the site too so it's way more interactive, it works great on mobile, but our app is still the old site style, so if you are looking only for an app with the courses, it's the old style, but the new site looks great on the phone anyone so the app isn't really necessary. But you can check it out here: www.bornagainboating.com/ Hope this helps and wish you the best of luck with your project! I would just say to figure out how in depth you want to get, BEFORE you start in on the project. That way you can have a game plan and actually get the job done and not just start opening up cans of worms and having an unfinished project that you just keep adding jobs too for years to come ;)
Do you want to sell the jbl radio if it works? Great job on the re wire. I’m about to do the same thing. Upgrading my lowrance and installing a trolling motor on my boat.
Already did lol :) gotta fund the project somehow lol :) Thank you, wish you the best of luck on the upgrade, are you going with a new Lowrance that talks to a Minn Kota? So many options out there these days for trolling motors and fish finders, can get crazy expensive though! Next week should have the trolling motor video up, we put a Minn Kota Terrova 50" 80lbs Thrust 24v on this boat, just haven't gotten it edited yet, or calibrated :/
@@BornAgainBoating I have the terrova riptide 60” 80lb 24v and the hds 12 live. I’m going to put my hds 9 on the bow and link it to the 12. I haven’t taken the lowrance out of the box yet. I don’t know if it will talk to the minn kota. I have a jbl on my boat but it didn’t come with the cover like the one you had. Thanks for your reply to me.
I sent this same question to older post thought u may get it faster on a newer post.. can you help me figure out my wiring harness prob. I have a 1999 fisher 25 ft pontoon with a diff, newer model engine a 2004, 3.0 mercruiser stern drive with what looks like a 9 pin harness, lot of the engine compartment harness has been cut and cobbled and somewhat diff color wires attached. can you help me find the exact shop manual for my motor, PDF. the block number is 1M12054RP and i think it is OLO97000 THRU OW301999, Eng ser number is OW 001-466.. they are 8 pins in the male plug but 9 holes one looks missing, Blu, Red, Grey, Black, Brown/white stripe, Tan/Red stripe, tan and purple but i counted around 20 wires running up to dash board. side not the female connector on harness has light blue wire and male has darker blue wire other then that all the same? I hope you can steer me in right direction. Thank you for your time.
Hey man where do you get the custom made panels and stuff for the dash and switches? Same for the panel for the battery switches. I work on boats but we don't do any restorations like this so I'm curious. Im gonna start doing my own work and i want to get more into work like this
I don't get how tf you get the wires looking so good in the bilge area working through that small hole. My access panel is bigger on my Wellcraft 195 Bay Boat and while it's a little deeper, it kicks my ass trying to get into there to do anything ...
That boat's wiring is a mess one of the worst I've seen definitely looks like a lot of people through the years was in there messing around. I thought my boat wiring was bad mine wasn't even close to that although it did have its flaws that needed to be corrected I think your boat was an electrical fire waiting to happen. Nice to see somebody who does a good job wiring. So many splices on that one wire lol. I hope a lot of people watch this and learn the correct way to wire. Keep up the good work.
Totally depends on your situation, are you doing the work, are you trying to pay someone to do this, can you get discounts on parts? Lots of questions, if you were to pay someone to do this, probably like $20-25K depending on what you have done and the labor rate you are paying
Biggest thing about rewiring a boat is labeling new wires at both ends of the line lol. Also using industry standard wiring colors for different circuits lol
I don’t understand what people are thinking. My sailboat has all fairly new wiring on it… all connected with wire nuts. I cannot fathom how someone could possibly think that wire nuts was the way to go in a saltwater environment, it’s baffling to say the least. Not that there is much draw and doubtful that you will ever have every single light on, but the entire boat is wired in series for every single light. Use decent wire to rewire the boat and incredibly fail at every other part of it. Don’t hurt your brain trying to figure out why people did it wrong, just fix it and move on with your life.
Boat wiring is super frustrating. The guy who wired my 2006 Blazer 2220 has a special place in hell. Running non-marine speaker wire for almost everything with 5 or more splices on every line…
Had to, to get them off the floor, allow space for the fuel tank access plate, allow the space for the mechanical steering cable to run through the console, and makes putting the batteries in and taking them out a lot easier :) Here this goes through that process: ua-cam.com/video/zDISvysgcHk/v-deo.html

Wishing you the best of luck though!
Can you make a video how to install throttle shifting box on a OMC cobra’93
Possibly, if I ever get around a 93 cobra drive, we don't see very many of them down here :/
Love those batteries. What are they?
Epoch Batteries: 2ly.link/1yj0G
If you have a stator on the engine, you will need a DC to DC converter to use as an engine battery
Bro I wish I can work with you and learning all these things. Man you are awesome
Lol Thank you! Maybe someday :)
33:48 yo G, see where the throttle cable and multiple wires come out by the motor? That little rubber grommet thing does not look water tight at all, and ill bet some water is entering from there
Always love to see your videos here from Norway 🇳🇴🤩
Thank you!
What type of heat shrink butt connectors and labeling do you use?
This have been good in the past: amzn.to/3UcM8UV
And the labeler is expensive: amzn.to/4h9b49F
Heat Shrink tubing: amzn.to/3YqCTDd
@BornAgainBoating I'm a huge fan. Keep up the great work. I just had to swallow a big pill and take my Seafox to someone. I think it's time for you to move to Chesapeake bay area! Florida to dangerous! 😉
Outstanding video!!
Thank you!
New drinking game: take a drink every time he says "outstanding"
Love ya brother 🍻
Lol, after recording over a few month period you forget how many times you say something lol, I was looking on how to remove more "outstandings" from the edit lol
Do you have a schematic for this? I’ll be doing a very similar project on my 16 ft cc soon
Sure don't, lol I make it all up as I go, I like to assess it once in the beginning and get a picture of what all we want to do, what all the parts are going to be and then kind of lay it out like that :)
Wish you the best of luck on your project though!
Just something to think about whenever you start your project!
www.bornagainboating.com/
look into ACF-50, used it in my aircraft mech days, its pretty amazing.
Oh, a new product! Thank you, will check it out :)
Great work 🎉!
Thank you!
Looks like I spoke to soon!
Very well done!
Thank you!
That way you can have a game plan and actually get the job done and not just start opening up cans of worms and having an unfinished project that you just keep adding jobs too for years to come ;)
@@BornAgainBoating thank you that helps so much. I've gone down the rabbit hole with wiring videos
Out standing lol ❤
Im gonna start doing my own work and i want to get more into work like this
New Wire Marine: 2ly.link/1z7Rf
You can make panels yourself though :)
An electric pressure washer would help you clean everything faster and more efficiently. 1800 lb is gentle and effective enough.
Para su experiencia cual es el mejor yamaha 150hp 2 siclos?
Any Yamaha 150, HPDI would be the last, but even that is a great engine!
Looks awesome!
Thank you!
Have to give him credit when credit is do...he's one heck of a Tech.
Thank you!
No pun intended but I'll be in the same boat hopefully next yr, down to final sanding on my cat to get it ready for paint then all my new rigging.
Nice!
How much is cost to rewire boat like on the video?
Not sure, I'll have a video over the next few weeks and show exactly what was spent on the project, minus the time :/
How did you label the shrinktubes of the connector spades?!?
amzn.to/3A6pgzN and here are the labels: amzn.to/3UfVOy1
What wire crimper are you using in this video
Anchor double crimpers amzn.to/3WCSDCa
You need yourself a harbor freight 10x20 tent they work great 👍🏻
Yeah, agreed :) working on getting a building, maybe next year :)
@@BornAgainBoating great to hear keep up the great work🙌🏻
I don't get how tf you get the wires looking so good in the bilge area working through that small hole. My access panel is bigger on my Wellcraft 195 Bay Boat and while it's a little deeper, it kicks my ass trying to get into there to do anything ...
Lol lots of time :)
Yeah it was, thank you, will do!
What would something like this cost?
Totally depends on your situation, are you doing the work, are you trying to pay someone to do this, can you get discounts on parts? Lots of questions, if you were to pay someone to do this, probably like $20-25K depending on what you have done and the labor rate you are paying
@@BornAgainBoating thanks bro, that’s more than I thought 🤑
Looking good!
Try using pool shock mixed with water instead of bleach products for cleaning.
A lot of people keep saying that, added it to the list of things I need :)
Pool chrome is just double the concentrate as bleach. Both are Sodium hypochlorite
I need your service on my boat are you in miami area ?
No I'm not, sorry
Lots of work! 😢. Looks good.
Thank you!
You can guarantee that all of the engine wiring, all of those zip-ties, was done at the factory.
How many hours approximately did it all take to rewire?
This project, for the rewire about 30ish, the whole boat, probably around 120ish
Subscribed!
You the man!
@@BornAgainBoating I beg to differ amigo….. You Da Man!
Us Navy: 90% of all electrical failures are due to poor connections
I could see that for sure!
Doing a used Boston Whaler.
Biggest thing about rewiring a boat is labeling new wires at both ends of the line lol. Also using industry standard wiring colors for different circuits lol
Hay ca va bien ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Running non-marine speaker wire for almost everything with 5 or more splices on every line…
outstanding video. PS delete the speedo
I don't understand why you made the stand the batteries sit on. It seems that it takes up space and has on benefit.
Had to, to get them off the floor, allow space for the fuel tank access plate, allow the space for the mechanical steering cable to run through the console, and makes putting the batteries in and taking them out a lot easier :)
Here this goes through that process: ua-cam.com/video/zDISvysgcHk/v-deo.html
