Risks and Benefits of Endovascular Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair (EVAR)

Hello, I am Dr Manish Mehta and this is a Society for Vascular Surgery briefing about Risks and Benefits of Endovascular Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair. An aneurysm is a progressive weakening and ballooning of blood vessels in the body. The abdominal aorta is one of the largest arteries in the body that supplies blood to all of the abdominal organs, and just below the naval it divides into iliac arteries that supply the pelvis and the legs. An abdominal aortic aneurysm is weakening and dilatation of the abdominal aorta that if undiagnosed and untreated, can lead to aneurysm rupture resulting in catastrophic internal bleeding and death.

I am also a survivor after an urgent EVAR and a fem to fem crossover.only in hospital 2 days and very thankful to all surgeons and staff who looked after me so well,my wife was told to prepare herself for the worst as i only had a 1% chance.but im still here and getting better every day, my op was on the 24/1/2018.

Scheduled for this surgery on 5/29/2024. No family history of aneurysm. However I did smoke for 34 years. I'm 53 with history of early deaths on maternal and paternal sides of family. I'll be 54 on 21st of this month.

I've had both my aorta and venacava removed and replaced twice, because of a cancer tumour wrapped around them plus the lethal graft infection which i have to contend with for the rest of my life, and then a universal type stent inserted inside the last aorta graft after the last one failed when i nearly bled to death because it got infected plus a fem female bypass. The surgeons who did it can't understand how I'm still alive 😀😀

a video on physical activity post AAA, with co-occuring bi iliac aneurysm, endo repair would be appreciated, highlighting appropriate ranges of blood pressure ranges during physical activity.

My aunt is diagnosed with an abdominal aneurysm and the docs decided to apply an open surgery, I wonder why they didn’t decide for EVAR. Any ideas? Thanks
