I must say the thing I enjoyed the most in this video is the practical use of drone camera work. I mean... I know the star of the video is supposed to be the Boosted long board, but the drone cinematography is a really neat way to capture this type of video for a review.
If they could make this board cheaper they would make millions. Because now its just to expensive for a minimum wage earning person like me and I really want one.
there's others around 600$ that go further some faster and further like the inboard. But idk the build quality of these boards and some are water proof but boosted is built really good I don't want to say the best but I've put 270miles on it and still awesome The range is kinda bad but anywhere I've wanted to go in town It does it I can even get to my highschool. But I'd have to bring my charger so it most defiantly does the job for commute
A good longboard deck can cost about $140, a precision trucks can cost around $400, ceramic bearings cost about $140, longboard wheels cost average= $50 racing wheels= $90. So if you have the money to spend top notch gears for a longboard, it can cost a lot of money, but the average complete board cost around $300.

motors generate electricity when you spin them and spin when you put electricity into them in this case, yes, they do have regenerative braking it's minimal and doesn't make much of a difference, but it's there
A buddy of mines did something similar and way less comfortable and ergonomic. Basically ghetto-rigged a leaf blower engine to it. IT RIDES Fast as hell, only thing is the torque and full speed is almost instantaneous when turned on, there is an off button but it's basically also ghetto-rigged. I would totally recommend it for people who know what they are doing (at their own risk) also it goes way faster than this. (Not saying this board is bad by any means.) 1. Cost of a goof leaf blower- 120-250 (Not an leaf blower, expert) 2. Should already have a longboard, or better yet make one yourself. 3. Requires bright thinking/ logical engineering lol 10/10. Awesome video guys!
i wanna buy this because its available right now but Inboard is so much better especially with the swappable battery only problem is that i have to wait !!!!
MythicalMe wait is the worse part but I think if I wait the prices will drop especially with the increase of competition. I ordered a boosted board but canceled once I found out about inboard. $100 cheaper has a USB to charge the controller, led front and rear lights, lighter in weight, longer range, it rolls freely even if u don't have power, water resistant, no belts to change and a 1 year warranty. I think it will be the best e-board once it's out.
Awesome review. So if the battery dies, can you still use this as a traditional longboard? There has to be a way to disengage the motor somehow or a neutral function.
I think I heard on Casey Neistat's video that if the battery is empty it doesn't ride like a normal longboard would because the motors provide some resistance. But maybe that was the older version.
+Colin Thank you Colin. I agree with you and confirmed this eventually with Boosted as well. It's good that it can still move despite some tension. It's an amazing board!
Even if you have the ability to custom mill a board, build a battery pack with your own controller, and mount the motors, you certainly don't have the experience to then tune the entire system to be controllable and nice to ride. It's a lot more complicated than just tossing some motors on a board.
MOD Just a bit annoying how many people comment about this board saying "psht i'll make one myself for $200" when they don't even realize this took multiple PHDs in robotics and engineering years to get perfect. Sorry if it seemed harsh. (i have no affiliation with Boosted btw)
Avboden I know how difficult it would be. I'm no stranger to electric motors, but that's not to say it's impossible or that I'm incapable. I definitely want to give this a go, though, so when I have the opportunity, I will try.
MOD I've built multiple boards, its pretty simple and costs way less. check out my channel to see my $500 build and it smokes my friend's boosted board
"1000 watts is the battery capacity?" Watts are electric power(voltage*amps), unit for capacity of batteries is Ah(amp hours, 1A by 1H is 1Ah) or Wh(1A at 3,6V by 1H is 3,6Wh).
Hey guys at tested, have you ever heard of the new electric longboards from the company Evolve? They produce the best electric longboards out there, they are just like the one in this video, but lighter, more convenient, has off-road capability and has a lower price tag as well as being customizable. I personally have ridden on a friends board and loved it! Please check those out and possibly do a review on them! They are sweet!
LOL I don't think joggers run at 35km/h or 22mph ;D At least thats the top speed that is listed at the website, but I think in real life it's slower...
My jog speed is typically 10 minute miles over six miles, so that makes it 6mph. This thing can go up to 22mph, with a cruise of 16mph. 16mph, and you don't arrive sweaty.
I know time is important, but people are getting lazy and fat. 15mph on a bike and you'll be able to get anywhere if you have the time. Top speed generally 40mph, if you have good downhills. I'm in a very hilly area, and uphill at 6-9mph is no sweating geared right. Since I have round trips of 12 miles, a simple $300 bike is all I need. I need to see more bike addons. And I really need a 12v generator.
lightdark00 To be fair, I'd far rather ride a bike too, More stable, better load carrying, more versatile over varied terrain, and pretty much any bike can be converted to electric power using a hub motor. Also, in the UK, I don't think a powered skateboard is legal.
Check out the Evolve Skateboards. They are a company out of Australia that competes with Boosted boards. They have more than double the range on their boards but from what I hear it is not as smooth a ride.
I'd get one if not for the battery life. I'd basically need it to last a whole day to be viable, or charge very quickly. Maybe once graphene super capacitors have replaced conventional power supplies I'll take another look at these kinds of gadgets.
The development and implementation of super capacitors are indeed an exciting subject. Though, again it makes you wonder why it takes so long ;) Something tells me that the tech and production abilities are already a long time present to fully go electric with everything and cheaply i might add. Anyhow, what I wanted to say is that I do not fully understand why gadgets like these do not take the advantage of a battery backpack. The size of the battery pack on the board is really small and could easily be doubled with the addition of a carry on backpack. Incorporate a water pouch into it, a bit of storage and a strap on for the board itself et viola a 20 mile radius is achievable while being able to recharge your other gadgets you carry.
Im tall myself as well and by all means I agree with you. But in this case we are not talking about an "agile" sporting event, we are talking about a mostly straight trail commuter event and for people going back and forward to their destinations they often carry a pack anyhow. Though personally, i find this particular board a gimmick in its current state.
justin wells It's all about convenience as I see it. Imagine if it had a battery life long enough to run consecutively for 10 hours, you would see them everywhere simply due to their incredible convenience as a mode of transportation. People flock to things that have a clear, defined, and useful function. As it stands now with it's current usability, it's little more than a gimmick for a niche market. Increase it's usefulness by upping the battery life and lowering the price, and I can almost guarantee it becoming a commonplace transportation method.
A Duck I dont fully agree with you and I will explain why. Sure if it would have a much higher range, then a lot more people would consider using it, but it wont be as high to be able to call it "common place" as a very big group of fellow humans would simply not be interested in it. This group of people would actually be all the people who dont feel "safe" or "comfortable" standing on a flexible long board. An example of these groups would be, humans above a certain age, women wearing skirts or people wearing delicate clothing, people not willing or able to stand on an unstable board etc. For this reason it wouldnt be common place. more popular perhaps yes.
I hope all the free press Casey Neistat gave them allows them to sell more and do some more R&D to make the motors a little more efficient, they should make a speedy one and a much cheaper range one. 15-20 miles would be dope.
Okay, so this is a longboard that takes away the exercise, has to be charged, costs 10 times as much as a complete conventional skateboard, totally impossible to customize, is much slower, much heavier and less portable? OH BOY SIGN ME UP ASJDHAUIPOSDHUIASHDIUAHSI
Doctor Cats Meow They might be tayloring to more of an easy going, wider base of people to sell it to? I like staking, but i wouldnt be able to bomb down a big hill on something like this :'L I'd bail so bad
+Doctor Cats Meow this board is more for commuting purposes and the people that ride for that reason go an average range of 5mph-15mph. but i would not bomb a hill with this board X'D
It's a good product but the rice tag is pretty steep. There are alternatives such as the e-go cruiser for under 600 and you can build one for about half that, I built one for about £270
Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool, but if you're just starting to ride a longboard, you'd be better off buying a good name brand deck that you can trust not to break when you inevitably fall, and I prefer a drop down deck for the stability, but that's just me, everybody's different. Wide trucks for a smoother, more surfing-like ride paired with the softer wheels, and you'll be coasting easy in no time. These are just my thoughts though, if you're looking to commute like they talk about in the video, then I suggest the above as a solid commuter board.
Its so funny watching him ride he's so stiff not relaxed at all me as an avid longboarder I just think its funny watching him ride xD I'd love something like this
Expensive. Their competition is the Yuneec, E-GO. E-GO is a one motor board but it's only $699.00. I have an E-GO and its GREAT! Fast enough for my purposes and it has an 18 mile range. I live on a 45 degree hill and my E-GO can get up it with me on it and I weigh 190 lbs. Check it out! I do like the two wheel drive aspect of the Boosted but not for another $800.
I've been longboarding for 10 years now. I'm not a huge fan of flexy decks. They can be good for cruising on flat-low grade as you can "pump" to add momentum without pushing off, but it's really energy intensive and they tend to be much more wobbly at higher speeds (15+ mph). Love the design, otherwise. Way better looking than the Exkate boards.
I used to have one. Well, it was by Offroader or something like that. I really enjoyed it, The battery and the motor were extremely big, but i loved it. the fun ended when the battery blew up :( I NEED A NEW ONE!
It's really funny to see all these comments mocking this product. The product is clearly not for people who want to bike or exert extra effort to need to get around. Also, 22 mph (which was the top speed he said) is exhausting on a bike.
OK several things which concern me about this 'review' 1. Do the belts not allow you to coast or does it go into a regenerative braking slow down? (if you let the board coast does it slow down automatically) 2. Why no mention of all the other electric boards which all look the same? Why focus on this without any mention of the other options? 3. Is this actually a sponsored video, did you buy this board yourself and are testing it or were you given this board by boosted?
1. If you coast and hold down the dead mans switch you do regenerate energy, but not very much. 2. Boosted is currently the best between price and quality. 3. They din't write / say anything about being sponsored, wich would be illegal if they where, so I assume not. 4. This one is kind off confusing. The 1st generation is not made to be water proof, but many people have ran it trough rain with no side effect. Also, riding in rain is very dangerous (slippery) on any longboard. Plus your trucks might rust etc. Now, 2nd gen is water *resistant*, not water *proof*.
You can't help but be jealous seeing the sf techie dorks riding this thing going like 8 miles per hour on it. I can't wait for the prices to come down.
I find it interesting that u did not get good reviews on this video. My theory is u did not mention any of the other e boards esoecially zboard which in comparison uses no remote...just pressure points. I myself is ready to buy but cannot make a decision because i dont wanna regret my decision. I have narrowed it down to 3 boards. Boosted Boards, ZBoard 2, and the Yuneec E-Go Cruiser. I am a fan of the professionally done slim line sealed battery casings making all 3 lite weight and attractive.
It would be neat if there was also a backpack with batteries in it that you could plug in. It could turn it into a pro-speed machine and increase distance.
when the battery dies, if there was a way to flip a switch and use the wheel motors as a means to charge the battery and use it as a normal skateboard that would be great, or have replaceable battery packs.
My advice to Boosted inc. Never let somebody so awkward and noobish promote your board like this again. My advice to everybody hating on the boosted board in the comments-Get a job so you can afford the board. Still can't? Go to school and get a better job. Want exercise? Go to the fking gym. If you ride longboards, or bikes for that matter, for exercise, you're in sad shape. I'm an avid longboarder, skateboarder, and snowboarder. I do all kinds of varial tricks on this thing, just like I would do on my dervish. You can ride up hills, carve back down in free ride, slide, whatever. It's sick. I don't care how much anybody loves boarding, nobody truly likes to kick. Controller is rad, it's fast, it accelerates faster than competitors, and it's on a better deck than all others (loaded Vanguard). Like a bunch of children hating on the guy with a Ferrari bc they're stuck with a Ford Focus. Makes ZERO sense. Either that or all of the haters on this thread are under 15 years old.
This is like the Apple of electric longboards. There are ones that are cheaper, more functional and perform better than it, but the look of this is much better than others.
Please review the Marbel board. It is another electric skateboard funded on kickstarter but is a lot thinner and lighter, as well as being more powerfull
Longboards are easy. First time i started skating it only took me 10 min to get use to and 5 min to get use to a longboard. Since more flex and easier turns without tricks. Never tried electric one though but im considering it.
Considering you can't seem to use it as a normal longboard when it dies you might as well buy a non electric one from a thrift store and just attach motor and battery pack, heck just install a button on the board and skip the hackable remote. Probably be cheaper.
Combine that with the quadracopter and you are one more step closer to the hoverboard in "Back to the future". Ok, you cant be on it when airborne but still a step closer.
I'm just taking the mikky out of ya both...You are BOTH Brilliant guys...and By The Way, Adam & Jamie ain't got NOTHING on you 2 boys! Nothing!! Keep On Rockin' The Ol' Tube Screen Dudes.....
It's a little much, but like Norm said, if you have the money to spend. The skateboard part of it is top of the line, great deck, wheels, trucks etc. A "normal" version of the same board would run you over $300. But the weight and price kinda make this very unpractical for the average person. A bike around the same price for commuting and carrying things would last far longer than the life of the battery, and the resale value would be much, much higher.
you say you'v carried 2 Shopping Bags but i honestly Cant see you holding X2 Bag,,:- when you look wobbly unstable about to fall without carrying anything,..Casy H. stands strait up Just rippin down the Road, but you my friend are hunched over as if taking a dump :- hey i'll probably be the same at first lol as i'v yet to try one, and although typically a natural at most anything sports related, i guess we'll see soon enough :- those things sure are neat tho :-) and i supose $$$ dollar wise the sky is the limit with bigger better / stronger, and as far as smaller battery ..that's a no go, never skimp on battery capacity no mater what its on, ..In Life today ya just never have to much battery power, unlike gas electric power is harder to come by, THANKS FOR THE GREAT REVIEW GUYS
Put these motors in a briefcase and I would buy it. Especially when you have to go from Gate A to Gate Z on an Airport, it yould be easier for businessmen to ride on their briefcases. Unlock the briefcase with your smartphone, enter the destination in it, stand on your briefcase and drive/skate to your desired Gate.

It's really slow, but it's fun.
But for more fun, the Fiik electric boards are awesome, and the offroad versions are powerful !
I hope all the free press Casey Neistat gave them allows them to sell more and do some more R&D to make the motors a little more efficient, they should make a speedy one and a much cheaper range one. 15-20 miles would be dope.
+zalien6 they dont design the motors and arent big enough to diversify their product line as such they are already getting rid of the single drive
+Ker Plunk the single drive is the cheapest one right? They're getting rid of it?
love the reverse water fall at 0:19
It bothers me deeply how slow he is going. And he's acting like he's actually riding it at a normal speed.
yeah he stands really weird too with his ass pointing out haha
I think it's for the drone shots
Jared Smigiel yea man xD he also loses balance in some parts
Seems like there should be more range. Looks like a great quality board!
+captainatt ikr? it's for people that are too lazy to ride a real skateboard
+Errow It's for rich software designers in San Francisco
Mango Cheese k
Actually, its a commuting device
***** Fuck the . coming straight from the underground
A young nigga got it bad cos he's brown
Nice drone footage fellas.
This guy looks soo awkward on that thing the way he keeps his arms perfectly still
My biggest concern is that this would only work on incredibly smooth roads. Anything with even slight cracks or bumps and you'd come straight off it.
LMAO longboards at 16 mph? what is that company smoking. try 30-60 downhill
Ikr. My cousin has gotten up to 100mph. He's amazing.
+Doctor Cats Meow LOl 30-60 i do 6000 everyday uphill!!!!!!
*****
IT4S A SKATEBOARD FROM THE FUTURE lol
SUCKA
It's a good product but the rice tag is pretty steep. There are alternatives such as the e-go cruiser for under 600 and you can build one for about half that, I built one for about £270
That bearded guy is so annoying and distracting.
My city is a little too spread out for this to be a viable commuting device, but it looks fun as hell.
he is sooo bad at riding it hahahahaha
Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool, but if you're just starting to ride a longboard, you'd be better off buying a good name brand deck that you can trust not to break when you inevitably fall, and I prefer a drop down deck for the stability, but that's just me, everybody's different. Wide trucks for a smoother, more surfing-like ride paired with the softer wheels, and you'll be coasting easy in no time. These are just my thoughts though, if you're looking to commute like they talk about in the video, then I suggest the above as a solid commuter board.
Worst skater ever! Where is Tony Hawk when U need him?
Is that the Loaded Longboards logo on the bottom? If Loaded made that deck, that thing is better than ever.
I used to have one. Well, it was by Offroader or something like that. I really enjoyed it, The battery and the motor were extremely big, but i loved it. the fun ended when the battery blew up :( I NEED A NEW ONE!
cogged is the word you were looking for my friend. Its a cogged belt to reduce slip.
It's really funny to see all these comments mocking this product. The product is clearly not for people who want to bike or exert extra effort to need to get around. Also, 22 mph (which was the top speed he said) is exhausting on a bike.
This is definitely on my list ! ( an old dogtown boy ) Santa Monica 1972
OK several things which concern me about this 'review'
1. Do the belts not allow you to coast or does it go into a regenerative braking slow down? (if you let the board coast does it slow down automatically)
Electric longboard? That is hell of San Francisco! =)
you know what?
i'm giving this video a 'like.' great review guys.
I am a fan of the professionally done slim line sealed battery casings making all 3 lite weight and attractive.
good review
did you test the Yuneec board or other brands?
It would be neat if there was also a backpack with batteries in it that you could plug in. It could turn it into a pro-speed machine and increase distance.
the waterfalls @0:17 is going up, reversed footage from the drone shot a presume
when the battery dies, if there was a way to flip a switch and use the wheel motors as a means to charge the battery and use it as a normal skateboard that would be great, or have replaceable battery packs.
I thought someone was on a helicopter or parachuting while filming. Dope Video !! SUB!
You have cool waterfalls in SF, the water flows uphill.
I fully want/need one. Would be dope af
Is that the "Loaded" logo right next to that Boosted logo? I knew it was just a Vanguard!!!
Thumbs up for the O-tang In Heats!
This is like the Apple of electric longboards. There are ones that are cheaper, more functional and perform better than it, but the look of this is much better than others.
Please review the Marbel board. It is another electric skateboard funded on kickstarter but is a lot thinner and lighter, as well as being more powerfull
Seems like the Metro Electric Skateboard has a range of 15-20 miles per charge. Boosted needs to up their battery to match that range.
Longboards are easy. First time i started skating it only took me 10 min to get use to and 5 min to get use to a longboard. Since more flex and easier turns without tricks. Never tried electric one though but im considering it.
would of liked to hear more about the regenerative braking
Considering you can't seem to use it as a normal longboard when it dies you might as well buy a non electric one from a thrift store and just attach motor and battery pack, heck just install a button on the board and skip the hackable remote. Probably be cheaper.
Combine that with the quadracopter and you are one more step closer to the hoverboard in "Back to the future".
Ok, you cant be on it when airborne but still a step closer.
you could put a remote controlled weight on like a slide under the board and make it steer that way.
Both trucks are caliber V2s the back one just has the motors built around it.
Its LiFePO4 made by A123 USA, 26650 case style.
12S1P I believe.
Looks awesome, would love one D:
one step closer to the illusive consumer hover board :'3 lol
Is the line with dirt road skateboards comming soon?
I had something very similar about seven years ago but it had a hand-held throttle
Need this for my all carbon fiber deck so I can do tricks.
Sad that I couldn't do fakie tricks on it though.
I'm just taking the mikky out of ya both...You are BOTH Brilliant guys...and By The Way, Adam & Jamie ain't got NOTHING on you 2 boys! Nothing!! Keep On Rockin' The Ol' Tube Screen Dudes.....
00:17 the shot was rewinded look at the waterfall behind him
Don't you know how waterfalls work?
Are the cheaper ones noticably lighter because they have just one motor? Or is the battery the problem?
It's a little much, but like Norm said, if you have the money to spend. The skateboard part of it is top of the line, great deck, wheels, trucks etc. A "normal" version of the same board would run you over $300. But the weight and price kinda make this very unpractical for the average person. A bike around the same price for commuting and carrying things would last far longer than the life of the battery, and the resale value would be much, much higher.
you say you'v carried 2 Shopping Bags but i honestly Cant see you holding X2 Bag,,:- when you look wobbly unstable about to fall without carrying anything,..Casy H. stands strait up Just rippin down the Road, but you my friend are hunched over as if taking a dump :- hey i'll probably be the same at first lol as i'v yet to try one, and although typically a natural at most anything sports related, i guess we'll see soon enough :- those things sure are neat tho :-) and i supose $$$ dollar wise the sky is the limit with bigger better / stronger, and as far as smaller battery ..that's a no go, never skimp on battery capacity no mater what its on, ..In Life today ya just never have to much battery power, unlike gas electric power is harder to come by,
THANKS FOR THE GREAT REVIEW GUYS
Why can't you use it like a normal board, if it runs out of battery?
Put these motors in a briefcase and I would buy it.
Especially when you have to go from Gate A to Gate Z on an Airport, it yould be easier for businessmen to ride on their briefcases.
Unlock the briefcase with your smartphone, enter the destination in it, stand on your briefcase and drive/skate to your desired Gate.
You can't beat the feeling of pushing off the ground and coasting through traffic though.
try 22 moh its so fun on the dual +
I must be able to predict the future because I just bought my first long board
Which kind of battery do you use? Lith-Polymere? Du you use an DC-Motor with gear ?How much power does it have?
