Make sure to play on NYRA Bets at racing.nyrabets.com/
NYRA Bets handicapper Matthew DeSantis is joined by NYRA's Maggie Wolfendale to discuss her strategies when it comes to handicapping two-year-old maiden races at Saratoga. These races often feature future Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown prospects.
Just last year we saw Preakness winner, Seize the Grey, and Belmont Stakes winner, Dornoch, face each other in a maiden race at Saratoga.
Maggie and Matthew discuss the different elements of handicapping that go into picking winners in two-year-old races from pedigree to workouts to how they look in the paddock and more.

What is your favorite angle when handicapping two-year-old races? Pedigree? Workouts? Trainer success? Let us know in the comments.
Also, apologies for Matthew's audio and video not being synced up. He was clearly just having a tough time keeping up with Maggie.
Gotta love Maggie! Definitely the best !
Excellent subject and discussion. More like this please.
You got it! We'll have plenty more of this type of content throughout the summer regarding expert insight on different angles and elements of horse racing.
Love Maggie so much energy and a smart horse person enjoying listening to her ❤
Us too!
Maggie’s the best
Perfect guest as you say to discuss young horses given her experience and expert eye. Agreed value her opinion greatly. All of the above meaning pedigree, workouts and trainer intent all have a place.
We love Maggie and she's got a great eye for talent on the track.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. NYRA finally does something right. Matthew DeSantis is a breath of fresh air. Now increase the budget and present this show which was great with something approaching its value technically. His questions for Maggie were excellent, and DeSantis is entertaining to boot. Try not to fuck this up NYRA.
Maggie is so good at what she does love listening to her thoughts before the races good job Maggie and Luck Always
She's the best! We love getting her insights and will have her back plenty on the channel.
I agree, great content! I am a new player in this game, trying to learn, so very much appreciate your content.
Glad you enjoyed it! We'll have plenty more like this in the coming weeks and months.
Maggie is great. I kind of cap these babies looking at angles kid of in this order pedigree, workouts, trainer success, if they have a race or 2, how did they break, and jockey
My uncle a great handicapper of 60 yrs had a saying you handicap horses run,if your betting more than 4 races, forget about it
In these types of races, I seem to lean towards the inside posts.
For 2 yo maidens you have to look for one that shows some promise in their last race, thats a big sign that thei are putting it together.
From my own personal handicapping bias, I just NEVER bet on a maiden race.... (too much risk and guesswork)
Maiden races might be the best races to bet. Classes levels are clear and eliminations can be very easy. Avoiding races with lots of firsters is understandable but most maiden races are very playable.
@@maidenfocus I kinda lied to you... I once owned and trained a home bred filly... Raced her twice to get her used to racing... Let her loose the third time... paid 52 to win.. 28 to place and 14 to show...
My system?
Lady Luck I enjoy her company
