Obama Candid Answers To Intern Questions- Full Video

- President Obama answers questions from White House interns about how he remains optimistic, his legacy with the African American community, and on when to compromise. He then says being president is the result of lucky breaks, which you can't always control. But being useful is something that you can control.
00:08 How do you remain optimistic?
02:13 What kind of legacy would you like to leave in the African American community?
06:29 How do you know when to compromise?
Lord I miss an intelligent, soft spoken, well read, humble leader.

Facts
Take me to your leader
which country did they steal him from?
I've just recently been going back and listening to some of Obama's addresses, press briefings, and conferences. I've forgotten what a president should sound like - what a leader should sound like. Did I always agree with the Obama administration? No. But I miss it so, so damned much. I miss the times when I felt that our president had the best interest of *everybody*, and not a select group of people, in mind. I miss the times when I felt that our president could represent our nation on the international stage in an intelligent and professional manner. And I miss the times when our president instilled a feeling of hope for the future rather than a feeling of fear.

hi
Just look at how each and every one of these interns is wide-eyed, thirsty for the knowledge that they expect this man to impart. And they’re not disappointed.
"Becoming president involves a lot of luck", that's a very humble perspective.
He’s right though. Think just how many people are qualified for the job. And even though he’s a terrific orator, people only knew that after he was selected (as a Freshman Senator) to be the keynote speaker for Kerry in 2004.
Trump would be like:
I'm your president, so that makes me smart, so smart.
Some people even say that I'm the smartest of all the presidents.

Definitely! I am very grateful that I was able to vote for such a charismatic, caring, and genuine president for TWO terms. It was the hope I had needed as a first time voter the first round and as an Obama advocate on the second round.
He could but it would be a couple hours of rambling crazy talk
@@redskins3656 No. The conservatives didn't give Obama a chance too on their platform. McConnell famously said that the GOP's goal should be to make Obama an one term president. They also pushed for the birther theory, even though it was debunked many many times. And do you remember a time when media outrage came from Obama saluting a Marine with a coffee in his hand, and not from admitting on tape you've played down a threat that ends up costing more than 210,000 American deaths (and counting)?
No, Obama was never given that chance with the conservatives, so he created his own opportunities for moments like this. This is something Trump can never, and will never do.
@@redskins3656 Hoax?
May I remind you that both the Mueller report (written by a life long Republican), and the recently released bipartisan Senate Intelligence committee report on Russia misinformation campaign both confirmed Russia's intention to help Trump win, by " overtly and almost invariably supportive of then-candidate Trump, and to the detriment of Secretary Clinton's campaign."
Additionally, the Mueller report, and Robert Mueller himself, said his report did not exonerate Trump, including obstruction of justice.
So no, the only hoax regarding the Russia meddling in our election is the Trump Admin and GOP's attempt at preventing the truth from coming out.

I thought it was quite interesting how he said that these young folks were the most secure generation in the most prosperous time period. You can definitely hear the echoes of history in that statement.
At the time he said it, this statement might have seemed optimistic. But now, under the Trump era, it is more clear than ever that Obama’s incrementalism blinded him to genuine disillusionment in the country. You get half-results with half-measures and it could all be dismantled in the blink of an eye, just like Obamacare, if you don’t take your job seriously, Mr. President.
You were in a bubble, and you actively stood against progressive policies only to later pretend like you supported them but were forced to settle for less due to so-called ‘pragmatism’. History does not occur in a vacuum; you directly produced the Trump presidency and all of the disasters that came with it. All of the issues that you pretended to care about (military-industrial-complex, income-inequality, justice reform, etc.) deteriorated under your tenure, will now deteriorate significantly under Trump’s, and it’s your fault for not cementing actual precedents.
With the weight of the financial crisis, you had the power to repeat history and fundamentally transform America just like FDR’s New Deal during the Great Depression. Yet, you chose to be a product of your time and preach for incrementalism. To paraphrase MLK, the time is always right to do what is right. History books will record your neoliberal legacy correctly and identify your statement for what it really was: not complacent, but complicit.
Perhaps the most upsetting fact is that the man who mobilized the younger generation under the banner “Yes We Can”, was the same man that repackaged complicity as complacency and tried to sell it as wisdom to that very same generation.
True

@@curiousguy310 it's difficult to judge because we don't know- or at least I don't know all the elements involved, and I don't have enough knowledge to take a firm stance on either side of judgement. but seeing this video makes it easier for me to believe that he at least did all those with the best of intentions. there have been moments in my life if the greater context wasn't revealed, an observing party would have judged me badly, but I acted with the best of intentions for all those involved. and the outcome may not have been perfect, but it's also impossible to say that the other outcome possibilities would have been "better". I also am beginning to understand that no single issue stands all by itself. there are multitudes of layers an issue shares its platform with- much that seem unrelated gets taken into consideration. sometimes the best decision is the least popular and seemingly wrong- simply because not all can be seen by everyone. but you could be right too- those could have been a terrible choice over other options. here's the way I see it though: i can consider him 1) having made good decisions, with good intentions. 2) having made bad decisions, with good intentions 3) having made bad decisions, with bad intentions 4) having made good decisions, with bad intensions. he seems like a decent person- he could be a sociopath but I don't get that feel. so I don't think he's made any decisions with bad or selfish intent. so that leaves 1) having made good decisions with good intensions, or 2) having made bad decisions with good intentions. the thing is, I don't think bad decisions can be had with good intentions. it's what the best possible outcome was available then, with the knowledge and experience at that time. if you regret, then you hopefully learn and make better decisions in the future. if you don't learn, then either you are incompetent or you're fooling yourself- to which then I say he has bad intentions since he makes bad decisions knowingly. and I don't think he's incompetent. so despite agreeing with you an your list of things that are either seemingly a bad decision or was in fact a bad decision, how I see the person of Obama is that he's probably made both bad and good decisions with good intensions. and observing how he analyzes and sees how various things are related during his answers, he does seem very thoughtful and articulate, compared to most people I've met in my life and have observed on video.
curiousguy310
The war wasn’t prompted because of oil (war is almost never about oil, since there’s an abundance), that’s just what the headlines want you to believe. The war was to confiscate American military weapons that were left there during their war against Saddam Hussein. These weapons were being used and sold to terrorist groups. When Saddam was killed, it left a power vacuum for jihadist groups to take over the country. This is also a reason why President Obama bombed. Yes, there were innocent civilians, but they targeted that area because of its high rates of terrorist groups. More than likely, those innocent civilians would have been killed in the arms of jihadists or would have been forced into such group. That’s a “game move” that the President was willing to take. I’m sure it was a hard pill to swallow.
Now, the jihadists know better than to only promote in their communities. They promote overseas (1) to avoid getting bombed and (2) having a possibility that more than one “important” leader being killed.
It’s much easier to catch these smaller jihadist oversea groups than to have a whole country that is overturned by jihadists. The amount of power a country of jihads would have had is astronomical. They most likely would have tried to take over the whole Middle Eastern hemisphere.

From 8:36 that has to be one absolutely profound statement “ you guys are the most privileged people at the most prosperous , secure period in human history , no gripping , no mopping , the possibilities of what you can do are enormous “ .. I hope they all took that to heart and go on to do great things . Great talk for sure , very profound and excellent speaker . ( in my humble opinion ) 🙏🏻👍
Obama Administration was the first to actually pay these intern. Before they had work for free in hopes of getting a job in or around the white house.
(Not saying it was a bad thing... interning at the WH is very good on a resume, just note* that Obama thought they should be paid for working so hard also.)
Jason I wondered why they were laughing at all those bad jokes 😂😂
Jk I Love Obama! Miss him!
they're laughing bc they're not comedy critics or audiences? if they'd bought tickets to get there to see Obama's standup, then they could be booing, but you're supposed to sorta laugh at someone's even mediocre jokes in interpersonal conversation.
ringoaikocascade just a joke dude. It’s not even interpersonal conversation.
When your boss is being cute, you laugh. Period.
So Monica Lewinsky was working for free? Wow!
The Obamas understood that not everyone has rich parents. No one should work for free.
reporter: asks a question
obama: Explains the situation answers the question charts out a plan
Trump: claims to be chuck norris
Don't mind me, I'm just here to remember what it was like to have a real President.
Never met anyone who's as eloquent as Obama is.
Had to watch this to be reminded of what a REAL president is.
keep cryin
I like turtles lol you’re a funny guy, you should be a comedian. You sound like Trump 😂😂😂
@@cactusjack2264 don't know what that suppose to mean but ight.
I like turtles just means, I like the way you talk, your grammar is really good also, just like Trump 👍. Don’t worry, it’s a complement. 🤪 lol

"History can go backwards as well as forwards." Just like as he knew the next president is going to be a fascist
I don't think this narrative for Trump is 100% true.
@@wickedmen030 That's because you were never taught fascism (or authoritarianism in general) or you don't follow current events.
@@TekGriffon oh believe me i know what facism is.
@@wickedmen030 I don't think you can denie the parallels to a certain führer...
@@julianhertw do you even know what führer means? Don't make fun of german language.
I cannot say this enough what a class act he is and so intelligent... he puts a smile on my face every time I hear him speak , I could listen to him all day, and all night , because you could tell with every word that he utters he cares, and that's a gift...
Damn. I miss this man so much it hurts. Those were good times.
Those were good, good years.... :'-(
The way they have the interns all huddled together is adorable.
Like freshly coddled babies, lol. Yeah, so adorable.
Sonik Phan Looks like the time when the Bolshevik commie lefties huddled together the Romanov family. So adorable.
They should've been bowing or on their knees
@Sonik Phan - I bet they just took their Intern Class photo!
He is such a team player and so humble. Always 'we', never 'I'. "I'm proud of what WE achieved" "Those people will benefit from the actions that WE took" (paraphrasing slightly).
He is inspirational in so many ways.
Who’s watching October 2020✋🏽
I miss this man running the country...😭😭😭
Remember having a president who spoke like a human
Ironic thing is that he ain't even human
This man is a true leader, he cares so much about his team and goes out of his way to give encouragements, feedbacks, reinforcements, handshakes and fist bumps, if only to brighten up someones's day with a seemingly innocuous gesture. You can tell this man truly cares about ALL Americans. This is the image of a true patriot.
How close he is standing to the group! It's a small thing but if you are present there, a few feet makes a world of a difference.
He's a teacher, a communicator, a fellow citizen. He's large and in charge but he knows how he got there.
Such a gifted, hard working communicator and leader. We all miss his style, class, dignity and humor. We are lucky to have found him and are better for it. Michelle is every bit as brilliant, what a power couple. Having read each of their books, I can say this.........Come back.
"...the things I will remember will be walking a 4 year-old Malia to the park. I'm not going to remember some headline."
Man this really hits hard on a ton of things. Makes me happy that yeah, I might be having a hard, stressful retail job, but I'll remember coming home to my kid who will talk my ear off about her day or about why turtles are the inspiration for smores. It's really nice that he was so optimistic.
Well said ZchinoZ94
He nailed on what is important in life and be your focus.
"...turtles are the inspiration of smores..." Im not only quoting that, but Im going to use that xD Chuckle worthy.
You must also care about the families and people of Iraq , Afghanistan, and many other Muslim nations
I don't think we've ever had such a deeply wise thoughtful president. It has been so wonderful. I hope one day we will again.
Well, hey!! I plan on running in 2036! So yeah!! LOL
Lee kaberlein .
You've got my vote already.
Kaberlein 2036.
Laurie Jean at least 20 of those will be .... by Trump

Well, Lincoln and Roosevelt, but within our lifetimes, I completely agree with you.
My god how could americans go from Obama to Trump... How ??? That’s like going from jordan to Laimbeer..
You mean like going from Jordan to Lorenzo Ball, Laimbeer was alright for a big guy. Wasn't afraid to play Hard. Didn't like him but you had to respect him and BTW he would drain a 3 on your ass if you left him alone.
@@scottyoung3700 Stop it, laimbeer was a normal player who compensated his lack of talent with cheap hits and being a bully just like Trump.
How did America mess this up. I wish a person like this stood up to lead my country. Would vote..
Five words and I'm instantly put at ease. He treats his interns with respect and gives honest answers. No BS, no agenda trying to be put forth. "It's good to see ya".
So refreshing. What a joy to listen to. I noticed Pete Souza in the background with his camera. His film, The Way I See it, was also a joy to watch.
@5:45 the fact that he's able to recognize who his audience and remind them to try to see all perspectives, instead of fueling his own agenda.
Truly A Great Man of Integrity and Dignity Mr.Barack Hussein Obama.
How can someone not like this. Obama is giving an articulate, intelligent, humorous and relevant dialogue. This is a President who was forward thinking, This is a President who took time to reach the younger generation. This is a President who is a true leader.
Jay Brown thank god generation Z , will be more conservative ....
Everything you mentioned is style versus substance. Policies enacted, leadership on contentious and controversial issues, etc. are how you judge presidents. Being a humorous president isn't a virtue.
take time reach the youth is nice
@Jeed
Actually your comment makes no sense. What are you referring to when you say "that makes no sense"?

It's 2 days after elections and Biden is headed to victory. I am watching these videos to train my mind that we went form Obama presidency to Biden's and forget the last four years.
Man I miss this common sense just down to Earth.
I wasn't a fan of his Politics. But I liked his intelligence, his demeanor, and his thoughtfulness. He was a great leader and he achieved great things at a time when Republicans did not want to meet in the middle. My only criticism of his Presidency is that he wasn't able to reach across the aisle and that really has more to do with Tea Party hardliners than with him. One thing is for certain, we need a return to this kind of leadership. I hope the Republicans can clean house so they can deliver leadership the country deserves. The United States works best when Republicans and Democrats work together towards policy that addresses the problems we face. Domestically and abroad.
Good point but I hope you remember that he did reach across the aisle but the other side was so resolutely against him that they rebuffed his every attempt. Remember Mitch's vow to make him a one term president on his first few days in office?! They were so close minded and resistant to his every move and only when the Dems took the house could he advance his agenda. In hindsight, It's crazy how they resisted someone with values like Obama and kowtowed to Trump's every whim regardless of how cruel, evil and illegal.
@@ayeeshahm9078 yeah I know. That's why I said it had more to do with Tea Party Hardliners. But Obama did make mistakes early on. He will admit that. When he first ran, I liked him but I felt he needed more experience. At the time I preferred Senator McCain. But his campaign screwed up by choosing Palin as a running mate and that is why I chose to vote 3rd party in 2008.
Trump has ruined the Republican Party for years to come. It's unfortunate. Because we need government working together not against each other.
Obama was respected and appreciated internationally, it gives softpower and lets you get things done on things trade/diplomacy/cooperation... giving growth to both countries. Trump has pissed off nearly every ally and neutral countries by repeatedly insulting them, acting arrogant believing that 1 piece of dirty somehow is better then another piece of dirty... and just outright distancing the US from the world ... by starting some weird ass global trade war thinking that in a world where corporations span borders isolationism works. Regardless of what you think of Obama he played it well both national and internationally.
@@Redisia I wasn't defending Trump or minimizing Obama. I very much respect President Obama. Can't say the same about Trump.
Give me an example of his intelligence .
Always a pleasure to watch Prez Obama in "action." Articulate, sincere, informative, honest, inspirational; a glimpse into his "soul." A tough act to follow. So very proud he came from my home state of Hawaii . Mahalo and Aloha...
curiousguy310 - you are like a broken record, saying the same stuff, over and over....

The greatest words of wisdom out of this is to the effect: don’t concern yourself with hiccups along the way to reaching your long term goal. This is what causes stress. Manage those challenges but keep your eyes on the ultimate prize!
