I think a history lesson is in order. At the beginning of the modern Olympic, the IOC was a pretty insignificant organisation, and the Olympics themselves weren't that big. That meant the IOC had little influence internationally. It was all changed when a little man in Germany realised the Olympics could be used for great properganda and power projection around the world. That man was Adolf Hitler, and it was the 1936 Olympics. It was by far the biggest Olympics held thus far. The Olympics had arrived on the world stage. For Hitler, it was a chance to prove tha Aryan races superiority. For the IOC, it brought power and notoriety of the likes they never had before. Many IOC members even joined the Nazi party because of this. Knowing all this, why do people always sound surprised by the fact that IOC loves authoritarianism?
The resistance among many Taiwanese to accepting Communist rule from mainland China stems from a variety of historical, cultural, political, and social factors: 1. Historical Experience: Taiwan has a different historical trajectory from mainland China, especially since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949. The Nationalist government (Kuomintang, KMT) retreated to Taiwan, establishing a separate government and societal system distinct from the Communist regime on the mainland. Over decades, Taiwan developed its own political, economic, and cultural identity that diverges significantly from that of the PRC. 2. Democratic Values: Taiwan has evolved into a vibrant democracy with a high degree of political freedom and civil rights. Many Taiwanese value their democratic system, which includes free elections, freedom of speech, and a robust rule of law. The Communist Party of China (CPC) maintains a one-party state with strict control over political dissent, media, and civil liberties. The contrast between Taiwan's democratic values and the PRC's political system contributes to resistance to Communist rule. 3. Economic and Social Development: Taiwan has achieved significant economic success and prosperity, often attributed to its market-oriented economic policies and democratic governance. Many Taiwanese feel that their economic and social systems are well-suited to their needs and aspirations. The PRC's economic model, while successful in many respects, operates under different principles, including state control over significant parts of the economy. 4. Cultural and Identity Differences: Over the decades, Taiwanese identity has evolved separately from that of mainland China. Many people in Taiwan see their cultural and national identity as distinct from that of the PRC. The experience of living under different political systems has strengthened this sense of distinction. 5. Political History: Taiwan's history with the PRC has been marked by periods of tension, including military threats and diplomatic isolation. The PRC's stance on Taiwan-insisting on reunification and using coercive measures-has further alienated many Taiwanese from accepting Communist rule. 6. Security Concerns: The PRC's assertive stance on Taiwan, including military threats and aggressive rhetoric, has heightened security concerns among Taiwanese. Many fear that Communist rule could lead to the erosion of their current freedoms and autonomy, and potentially put them at risk of conflict. 7. International Support: Taiwan has developed relationships with various international partners and enjoys a level of informal international recognition and support. Many Taiwanese view these international ties as a counterbalance to PRC pressure and value their place in the global community. Overall, the combination of a distinct historical trajectory, democratic values, cultural identity, economic success, and security concerns all contribute to why many Taiwanese are resistant to accepting Communist rule from mainland China.

Not surprising since China is one of the big sponsors of the Olympics, from Alibaba, Megniu and Taishan Sports who were providing many of the equipment used in the events. Let's not forget, the organizers pick CMG(Chinese Media Group) as their main broadcaster of the Paris Olympics.

It was about 120 years ago. Then China lost it in war in Japan and never won it back. Japan was defeated in WWII, changing Taiwan's status, but not by China. The USA defeated Japan and took occupying power in former Japanese territory, including Taiwan. The USA did not hand sovereignty over to any Chinese government, and does not recognize the CCP's claim to Taiwan. China needs stop trying to claim territory from wars that it did not win.
Taiwan is part of China. India and 189 other UN member states also agree that Taiwan is part of China. Olympic venues do not allow any behavior that promotes Taiwan independence. If someone is unaware of these facts, or if their behavior is inconsistent with Olympic rules, those who manage or use Olympic venues should react accordingly. This was what you see in the video.
