I started buying movies on 4K last year with 2001 A Space Oddessy, Scarface , Spartacus, Bladerunner, The Shawshank Redemption, and Alien at a low price. Most are very expensive to buy in stores in Australia. I will wait for discount sales to buy some great titles.
My recommendation is to look at pawn shops and sales to start. I pick up 4ks at pawn shops regularly for between $4-$8. No need to pay anymore than $12 for anything unless it's in your top 10 until you've burned through the discount movies you enjoy. And speaking of Gruv they have their 2 for $22 sale going again. They also have a couple 4k steel books supposedly on sale but sold out
Ironically enough I just recieved this from Gruv's Amazon store for less than $20.00 today. Listening to the soundtrack included with this edition right now.
I started collecting around 5 years ago..I’m late to the game but I feel I started at the right time due to 4k’s coming out and all these boutique companies popping up. I’ve never ordered from GRUV before but hearing good things about them. Now that u recommend GRUV, I’ll be checking the retailer out
I started collecting even more recently and I think now is a great time to get into it. 4K will likely be the last physical media format and there’s so much good shit being released left right and centre. And you won’t have to be frustrated with double dipping.
It’s amazing to see how many releases we are getting in 4k. I think there was a lot of fear before it wasn’t going to be this good. Nice to see enough people are keeping physical alive.
Gruv has an eBay store and always has a 20% off 2+ items on their 4K’s on Ebay, a little extra savings for the new guys 🤙🏻 good video, I look forward to the media report every Monday! Thanks for the entertaining content.
Great review, new to 4k and grateful for the heads up on some bargain recommendations, new releases are just too expensive so great to get some classics in 4k
the thing, jaws, tremors, first blood, Knives out, Parasite I own on Blu Ray Scarface, Us, John wick, Close encounters, the collectors edition, 1917, They live, Casino I own on 4K I also want to pick up Mad max (the first one) on 4K but I have to import it from amazon US which is crazy as it is an aussie film and I live in australia
I got into collecting 4ks in an unusual way: I used to only collect Blu-Rays and DVDs, which I still do, but I thought: 4k must be better and probably the future. So if I can, I always buy a 4k for my new releases and all that (if they're not like 40$).
I’ve been collecting 4K for about four years. My first 4K purchase was Black Panther. My biggest mistake when first getting into 4K was buying new titles on release day or shortly after and paying regular price. Now, I just wait for them to go on sale.
Some excellent recommendations in there! Absolutely grab Close Encounters on 4K! Amazing movie that looks and sounds incredible on 4K! Just make sure you watch the Director’s Cut and NOT The special edition or theatrical cut. The 1998 DC is the version Spielberg always wanted. The studio made Spielberg add some scenes in the “special” edition that he never wanted to do.
When I started my 4K collecting I firstly wanted to sample what the format was capable of so I bought a mix of old and new movies. For new movies, Aquaman & Passengers. You gotta get a black and white movie, I would go for Psycho. Fast forward after getting 40 titles I still think that blu-ray is still almost as good as 4K, not going to upgrade everything I own but if the price is right, I will upgrade the ones that I watch more often. Thanks for the video Ken!
Out of curiosity: What equipment do you use? How big is your screen and how far away are you sitting from it? I ask because I often hear that Blu Rays are as good as 4K and I only ever saw a handful that even came close to typical 4K quality.
I realize this isn't related to the video itself, but when I heard about the flash flooding in Kentucky, I immediately thought of you and your great collection in the basement. How's the situation there in Louisville? I hope you have escaped the flooding...
Ken if you are really into Korea films one of my all time fav is " Along with the Gods 2 Worlds collide" Please grab a copy and review YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED. If you dont like I will cover the cost.
Blade runner 2049, Dune (new), tenet, first man, field of dreams, edge of tomorrow, true romance, John wick 2, fifth element, fury road, dunkirk, fury, looper, green mile, ford v Ferrari , joker Casino looks amazing. This is my favorite from Scorsese. Did anyone else get freaked out by possessor? Review this movie
Any sci-fi fan with a 4K setup that doesn't own 2001 a space odyssey has denied themselves perfection. The audio is not dolby atmos demo material but the video transfer is so sharp and clear that during the closeups of Dave playing chess with Hal, you can count Dave's eyelashes. No joke.
StarWars Trilogy ( a new hope - Jedi) No Time to Die 1917 2001 Alien Blade Runner ( both ) Jaws Drive Shininng Wizard of Oz Scarface Ten Commandments Godzilla v Kong Top Gun The Ran Battle Royal Passengers
I'm a new 4k collector and I completely agree on the original Star Wars trilogy. It's an absolutely stunning transfer. I also have Alien and 2001, but neither of them looked as good as Star Wars.
@@jacderida Yeah more so ANH is just stunning isnt it, the detail on 3PO at the beginning is to die for. Jaws is also superb PQ, whilst we expect good transfers from newish films its so pleasing to see older films resurrected to surpass even modern films in looks on screen. Regards Carl
Hi Ken, the thing on 4K was awesome! Jaws on 4K is a masterpiece. When Spillberg release on 4K blu ray, did you know he took some of the sounds effect from the Jurrasic Park and put it into the Jaws when it sank. Scarface is another masterpiece on 4K to have. Trimmers look awesome on 4K. I dont have it but I will order it. I would suggest the Mad Max movies on 4K, Escape from New York, Terminator 2 on 4K, Die Hard on 4K, Christine on 4K.

@@jsb1944 fair enough. I don’t think I watched the blu ray recently so I didn’t compare. Definitely possible. But yea probably not a true showcase of the format. Just a movie that people were happy it looked that good for an older film. Yea the movie holds up very well as a film.
Cool video but I have to disagree on some of your picks like the movies Us and Scareface and the thing bc Us was just ok at best and scareface is just so overrated and not that good compared to 1990 king of new York witch is a better film and it does need a 4k release and john carpenters films are good but the thing is good but I think some of his other films are better then the thing like in the mouth of madness the fog and escape from new York and one of his most underated film that nobody talks about prince of darkness and 1917 is a good war movie but I would also recommend saving private Ryan and speed and pet sematary and Jurassic park and starship troopers and the fifth element and 2005 war of the worlds but I do agree with tremors knives out but overall cool video
Avoid 'The Little Mermaid' on 4K. Disney didn't give a shit about that release. Transfer wasn't even touched to restore the picture at all... Was very disappointed with this purchase. Better off with just the DVD, maybe the Blu-ray.
I think Scarface is overrated l, as a movie, but I’m more sore I sold The World is Yours limited edition that I never opened on eBay for 1/2 what it’s going for now.
Arrow's edition of Tremors is my top recommendation. Absolutely the most profound upgrade on the visuals compared to the previously available bluray.

The Revenant, this was my first 4K purchase, the natural lightening is first rate.
Watched Ambulance 4k yesterday. One of the best looking and sounding 4k.
