SonicProjects OP-X PRO-3 released! 12-voice semi-modular monster synth which fullfills virtually all requests and wishes from users collected over the recent years. The synth offers:
- A new logically re-structured interface collecting related features in clear function groups
- No more hidden features
- A new hybrid patch-browser both emulating the former banks and offering extended features
- The extended features include a search function, favourites and categories
- 5 envelopes (4 polyphonic, 1 mono)
- 4 LFOs (4 global, 1 per-voice)
- 10 filter types (7 lopass modes, hipass, bandpass, notch)
- Dual filter design offering seamless morphing for filter mix and filter modes
- 2 oscillators offering Sawtooth, Pulse, Sine and Triangle
- 3-oscillators (moog-like) and sub-oscillator implicable by preset chords
- Hard sync, cross-modulation (x-mod) and ring moduation
- Yamaha-type sine-fm for bellish sounds
- An extremely sophisticated Modulation-Matrix offering 5 slots (3 poly, 2 mono)
- The modulation sources even include the voice-board trimpots
- Separate up/down controls for Pitchbend and separate control for Modwheel
- Pitch- and Modwheel can be detached completely and freely assigned in the Matrix
- Octave switcher extended with a two-octaves-down button
- Added modulation effects (Chorus, Double Chorus, Flanger, Chorus-Flanger, Phaser, Ensemble)

- The normal arpeggio modes offer pitch-order, input-order (JP-8) and radomized order (JP-8)
- A new digital-display always shows the currect arpeggiator mode as well as the knob mappings
- A dedicated hard-wired control for pulse-with-modulation key-tracking
- Smoothed aftertouch-input for stepping-free aftertouch using low-resolution aftertouch
- A board-view showing the inner workings of the synth offering some extra-controls
- The extra controls include further voice-board trimpots and voice-reset on song start or manual

- In-plugin GUI-size switcher offering two reality-proven sizes
- 300 new sounds showing off the incredible new features
- 3'000 first-class sounds in total included with an estimated value of $600
- A dedicated section offering an alpabetically sorted library of 475 famous 80s patches
Complete list of changes:
www.sonicprojects.ch/opxpro3/...
The new boards-view mainly serves to better understand the inner workings of the synth which was basically the same in all its precedessors since 2006 and exactly copies how real voltage controlled polysynths of the late 70s 80s worked.
OP-X PRO-3 is directly compatible to all former OP-X PRO-II patches (can directly load .opxpreset files - the best put them to the "G_USER_EE_1" folder) and can import own custom .opxbank banks if needed.
The included library however already contains ALL existing OP-X PRO-II banks and sounds ever released. So you don't need to import these.
It's even partly downward compatible. So a patch saved with OP-X PRO-3 can be opened with OP-X PRO-II, with the limitation that it only can set the parameters it has.
Minimum system:
Mac: macOS 10.15 High Sierra, native M1 silicon compatible
Windows: Windows 10 64bit, Windows 11 supported
Demo version:
www.sonicprojects.ch/opxpro3/...
The synth comes in 4 sub-versions:
OP-X PRO-3:
Maximum CPU version with improved audio quaility
OP-X PRO-3 ECO:
Half-CPU version which has the identical sound as OP-X PRO-II
OP-X PRO-3 LC:
Lowest CPU version which consumes even less CPU but therefore lacks features.
OP-MTX:
Identical to the max CPU version (so OP-X PRO-3) but with different name and plugin ID and separated library.
Allows for parallel installation to one of the lower CPU versions to still have all options available.
OP-X PRO-3 can be installed in parallel to OP-X PRO-II.
The two are completely independent from each other and so can be used alongside.
A license contains all these four sub-versions.
A non-upgrade license includes the former classic OP-X PRO-II

Blue and dark skin available!
Due to popular request we now provide a re-skinning package which lets you change the skin color of the installed plugin to either "blue" (original OP-X blue - as requested by many) or "dark" (a dark grey-blue). The re-skinning packages are available on the public demo version site and for licensees in the OP-X PRO-3 login area. The windows and mac AU package provided on the demo version site apply to both demo and licensed full version. The mac VST3 package provided on the demo version site however only applies to the demo version. The mac VST3 re-skinning package for the licensed full version you have to download in your OP-X PRO-3 login area.
In a later release we may include the skin color options direcly in the GUI-switcher at the top left.
Enjoy!
Brill thanks a lot! Not something I get to keyed in to but it's nice to know it's there! The BEST VSTi proper old skool synth emulation out there still, amazing effort Sonic Projects devo team! 😎👍🎹🎵🇬🇧🍻💥
@sonicprojects I downloaded all three ( for different moods ) but the only way I found to change them is to re-download them every time. Is there an easier way like while I'm playing in Logic? I can resize the window. Should be easier I'm just not seeing it. thanks in advance.
@@MJ-tg6wb You only have to do download the packages once. If you're in macOS don't allow the system to delete the installer after installation which is a truly idiotic function of macOS. Choosse "keep". For now the change only can be applied using the skin installers which exchanges the graphics in the already installed plugin. In a future update we may include the skin color options directly in the plugin's GUI-switcher.
Great work! SEM cream would be a nice option too. Is it possible to make them high resolution retina if they are not already?
Just because of the song "Jump" it would be cool to have an EVH "themed" skin as a thing. Just sayin.... Your mileage may vary....(YMMV)
Literally the most underrated softsynth in terms of pure sound. It will forever be one of my go 2
btw, started with Pro 2. Upgrading!
Agreed even that it's underrated. It's nearly a miracle that it exists.😊
@@RUHDD4HVN For real, you can absolutely fool anyone into thinking this is completely analog. ESPECIALLY with these updates.
@@Inflightmuzik Don't let anyone say that you're exaggerating, I'm here to say it right with you. The fattest sounding vst of it's kind. Spot on bro!!! I hope to upgrade soon. Just love it!! 👍😁
When it doesn't crash. My experience wasn't good. Love the sound though.
I've never thrown money at my computer screen so quickly... I was waiting on an update for so long. It's absolutely bonkers. Congrats !!!!
Yes! Still the best sounding VST on the market. Literally this and Diva are the only two VST’s i have genuinely been excited about. Please make blue an option in the future.
Also appreciate the no-brainer upgrade pricing. If it was $99, $79, or $59, I'd have had to think about it a bit. $35? Take my money!
I hope this amazing synth gets the attention it absolutely deserves!
Man, I’ve used OP-X Pro II on so many songs in the past several years. Best money I ever spent on a software instrument. I can’t wait to play with all the new creative opportunities this update presents!
I wish there would be a 3rd oscillator, but this is still amazing!
The GUI is still a slightly cluttered and messy compromise between "staying true to the layout of the original Obie" and adding the improved features and "tweakability" that we all want. In my opinion, creating a completely new GUI from scratch might have been a better idea... That being said, the new features are REALLY useful - and most importantly, the sound is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS !!! ♥ (Yup. I'm buying this upgrade RIGHT NOW !)
Yes I don't get why they don't improve the GUI. The angle of the shadow is weird for example. If you look at the competition (Arturia, GForce), they have a much better UI and preset navigation. This has been out for about two decades and the UX/UI remains stagnant.
I just bought the new version. I am very impressed with OP-X PRO 3. That really sounds good, and I don't say it often.
Now I'm wondering whether to cancel the order for Behringer UB-X 😅😅
Cheers! 😍
cancel!
How much more life-changing or better can the UB-X be? Especially for the money? I had the OB-X8 and dumped it for this. No difference. Except for my wallet and piece of mind.
Yeah, I didn't order it, but I was playing with Pro II yesterday, and pretty much talked myself out of it. This just sealed the deal. Never purchased an, upgrade so fast in my life. I wish he had charged more for it honestly.
You listen to me🫵🏻 TORRENTS BABY‼️🍺😁
The truth hurts. Absolute Truth!
Excellent news! The previous versions have been my go-to analog synth for the last 10 (15?) years, even though I've got tons of other synth VSTs (Arturia Collection, etc.) at my disposal. It just sounds *so* good... if a bit cryptic to operate! Hopefully we get tooltips explaining what some of the less-obvious controls do this time around! 😀
Your go to analog synth is digital? Whoaaa!!!
@@RobotSnakeyeah, because OP-X II was that good that it nught as well have been a legit analog. And here we are now with something even bigger if that's possible. Lol
I just updated to V Collection 9, and Arturia's OP-Xa V sounds awful to me: lacklustre and generic. SonicProject's emulation is a couple of orders of magnitude better.
@@robst247 All of Arturia stuff has a certain digital character to them. They have gotten better on some of the newer stuff, but their stuff is more "inspired by" than it is authentic. Now with that said, this thing is sort of that way too, but it absolutely nails the sound. Also the new oversampling in the MAX version of 3 really adds a lot of depth to certain sounds, like especially noticeable on the Tom Sawyer bass sweep. If you compare it to v2, there is just more substance to something that already had a ton of substance to begin with. Hope that this ne get the exposure that the v2 never really got. Maybe he can get Starsky or a few others to compare this thing to the real deal. :)
@@lorenmorgan1931 You've certainly got me interested in the update! It's a shame that the interface is still so outmoded.
Directly purchased! - I have been using the PRO 2 already for so long. love it!
Wow!!!! Wondered where you guys had been 😃👋. STILL using your OP-X Pro II, and loving it ... still. This looks & sounds awesome💥 !! Defo getting this bad boy 😁🫶🎹🎶🔥🍻🇬🇧
Yay! Your work has always been outstanding! I can’t wait for this one!
Oooooooo yes. 🔥🔥🔥
Monster indeed - sounds fantastic - definitely need headphones to appreciate the fullness and lush sound here. WHOA!
Sounds brilliant...looking forward to upgrading. 🎉
It's a really impressive upgrade. I've just played the presets without any tweaking, but the sound seems better - this seems to be the result of a better phase response which creates a better centre image. The sound is also a bit smoother & more 'mix-ready'. The OP-X Pro II sounds a little more unruly, so it will still have it's uses for sure
I love you, this is my fav synth plugin of all time
Best synth got better! 🙏 Congrats, Peter! I agree with previous posters. OP-X color is blue 💙
Purchased in 2015 and used it on a daily basis. This is a BEAST!!!!
Knocked it outta the park...kudos..cheers !!
OH that sounds really nice and looks quite not easy to handle! 💫
Amazing news! Can't wait to install and play it!
Awesome sound & playing ;-)
Shut up and take my money! That is a no-brainer upgrade price. It sounds fantastic, with that analog warmth, just like OP-X Pro II. Great idea to turn it into a more versatile version that can emulate more of the classic synths.
Still rocking the excellent E-MU master keyboard, I see. I have the four-octave version, it is still great, but the keys are starting to yellow unfortunately.
Very helpful tutorial. Loving v3 so much.
this is so amazing. What a wonderfull Sound
OMG, waited for years. Now its here!
Nearly fell off my chair seeing the email. Over the moon and in disbelief ! Instabuy on the upgrade ! My fav old softsynth gets a service !
I hope we can change back to the classic blue gui !
29:27 Van Halen Jump! My beloved famous sounds all are there! :-)
Make sure to get/download all the available sound patches too. They have very accurate simulations of other like minded synths in there for free. Win win win!!!
Can't wait to upgrade :)
Is it possible to change the colour scheme of the interface?
I hope there is at least one alternative. The old blue scheme, at least. Not a fan of this mustard yellowish new thing at all.. 😐
@@luisbovleck5173 Me neither - awful
You can now.... have at it and rock! ":^)
wow, nice job
I've been playing with this since it's release. Wow... I love it. The sound is even warmer and clearer than the previous version, which I have a massive soft spot for. The upgrade price was a no brainer... incredible offer.
The new gui colour, as I think everyone has said, is awful. Functionality is improved, a bit.
But for me, it's all about the sound. I'm in love again...
Thank you, Sonicprojects 😉
Fantastic! Just upgraded. Can't wait to play with it.
extrem 😎 ❤
pure power love it
OP-X II is still one of my favorites softsynths! Great to see it got an update.
But that ugly diarrhea brown though...
don't like the GUI either
Blue skin please
One of the best software filter models i’ve heard. Please make a blue option! Also… the tiny arrow knobs are a headache… any way to make slightly larger normal knobs? Maybe an alternate skin? I’ve seen other people complain about this too.
The OG is back!!! 🔥🔥😎😎🙌🙌
You resolved my only issue with the Pro II, the Preset Browser. Thank you! Will the Pro III have backwards compatibility with Pro II?
LOVE IT!!!!... Is this replacing Pro-2 or will it be separate.
Sounds very interesting, also interesting to see a difference between this and OB-Xa from GForce
NICE!!!!
Super excited for the update long in the works, but please tell us you didn't get rid of the blue color scheme completely and that this is the only skin we are left with.. C'mon now. 😵💫
Exactly my thoughts...
You mean diarrhea brown isn't doing it for you?
@@Vurtek It's doing it for you, apparently, as you have it coming outta your mouth..
seems like they did, just upgraded and can't seem to find an option to change colors 😭
@@luisbovleck5173 Why be so aggressive about a joke about the colour of this synth lol
the best emulation, so far.
Sounds absolutely great , but can I get it a flavor other than Mustard ? Been a fan since the OG Reaktor version and even bought the VFX version when I switched to Macs and still use Pro II to this day .
Man you really are into this synth. I mean, do you even have any other synths out there?
what's the point? some companies have twenty synths and they are all meh. better to have one but amazing.
OK. Quite possibly the best softsynth on the market.. has a massive update?? ... PURCHASE
Playing it side to side with my "real" analog supersynths and sounds either the same or sometimes better!
Instant upgrade
This was my first OBX software clone. I recently sold my real OB-XA and bought the OBX8, still own my OB-1. Of course I own all the other OBX clone software (Gforce, Obsession, Arturia, etc) and although the UI on this is cumbersome, the sounds.... I keep coming back too this plugin when on the go. Instant update for me.
Why sell the OG though?
Wife, lack of space (it's a beast) and maintenance. I did learn to solider as a result and bit about power transformers. So not all was lost! :)@@bengsynthmusic
Yeah this thing can nail the Jump For My Love, which no other plugin can. This one from the demos sounds even warmer. Can't tell until I install it tomrrow, but I'm excited.
@@muco007
I see. How do you like your OB-X8?
Fwiw Obsession sounds great at doing the CEM sound as it’s modeled on an OB-Xa rather than the OB-X
Great detailed video. I have few questions I probably missed during watch..
1. How to remove a patch marked as fav from fav folder?
2. Does the Del button asks for a confirmation before actually a delete?
3. How to restore factory patches back to original?
Thank you very much. Regards.
Regarding the fav folder, on page 2 of the "OP-X PRO-3 start basics guide.pdf" which I found in the "Manuals" folder of the installer package it says: "To remove a favourite in the list either click DEL or on FAVO". I tried both - in both cases it asks if you really want to remove the favorite.
Amazing!! Does it have mpe support? thanks
Is there a MIDI learn function to associate hardware knobs and sliders to OP-X3 PRO parameters?
The knob animation looks like stop-motion.
Yeah, very laggy. Hard to quickly wind something.
@sonicprojects I downloaded all three ( for different moods ) but the only way I found to change them is to re-download them every time. Is there an easier way like while I'm playing in Logic? I can resize the window. Should be easier I'm just not seeing it. thanks in advance.
Updated already :D
laying with the demo. Not sure if its a buy or not - I have OBx already which I think sounds a little nicer (for OBx sounds obviously, and its not as fl;exible as this) and Diva which is a little more flexible. If I didnt have those it would definitely be a purchase. The ui puts me off a little - its not as easy to navigate as others - a little cluttered, but theres lots to get in and without resorting to "tabs" that Diva does i get why.
Where do you need to click to get the licensing credentials popup?
What's the best MIDI controller to use with this so you don't have to use the mouse so much?
Please tell me they are plans to release this for iPad
Well done, I’ve just bought it. By mistake I’ve unsubscribed to the sonic project mailling list , how to subscribe again?
me too.. I've clicked that damn big link in excitement without checking it's for unsubscribing and now I'm out 🤓
Me too - I think the person who put that unlabeled gigantic Unsubscribe link in the email is also the same person who designed the color scheme for this update. Time to re-interview your staff, SonicProjects! Lol! 🤦♂️
good that there is an update, since the II version was becoming obsolete. But I'm not sure if this hold up against the current competition though (gforce oberheim for instance, arturia, etc)
I've just been experimenting with the Arturia OP-Xa V after updating to V Collection 9. It's between lousy and mediocre, and the factory presets are ABYSMAL ... an insult to everyone who is familiar with the rich sounds of the original OB-X (1979) and later variants. SonicProjects' emulation is a couple of orders of magnitude better than Arturia's.
@@robst247 and which one is your favorite of them all? did you try the new gforce oberheim emulation?
@@tendingtropic7778 No - I haven't tried that one, but I love their Minimoog emulation (Minimonsta 2). I can't imagine a better emulation than the SonicProjects OP-X PRO. I'll probably be updating to the PRO-3. Which is your favourite?
@@robst247 i love the officially endorsed one (from gforce) but its not the same oberheim ofcourse. there are also some sample based ones that are good. and ofcourse good old DIVA
@@tendingtropic7778 Diva is simply the best virtual synth. I tend to avoid sample-based synths that are supposed to emulate classic analog or digital hardware synths. I'm a purist. I prefer my waveforms to be mathematically constructed from scratch, not recorded. That said, I have many virtual instruments that are sample-based.
Nice, but waiting for Upgrade offer... thanks
How do you program Fat-Phat sound into software? I don't know but these guys nailed that fatness in droves. Not a waste of your money or time for this stellar Oberheim software synth...... no regrets. And yes I had a "real" one with flight case years ago. So happy to use this gem and minor miracle of classic synth software. You won't be sorry.
Upgraded! Unfortunately this has the same note playing forever issue in Reason as the OP-X Pro II VST3 version so it's basically unusable for Reason users. This is the only VST I know of that has this issue.
Definitely a dealbreaker, even despite the awesome sound. Not worth it working with an instable vst. Had the same problem in Cubase with OP-X II
@@Miicrowahvei Unfortunately yes. I think the OP-X PRO II is one of the best-sounding VSTs but if this issue isn't fixed I will have to refund this purchase.
I asked Sonic Projects about it and they told me that the makers of Reason are aware of the bug (it's obviously their-side since the synth doesn't do this in other hosts) and that they're working on a fix
I had the same issue with OP-X II VST3 but it worked fine with VST2. Is there a VST2 flavor for OP-X III?
will this run in mainstage ok ?
Just got the email and Oh, Wow!
Right you've got my money now. Time to play! :-)
@20:23 OMF Buddha !!!!!
what keyboard is being played?
Looks like an old Emu x-board
for the same patch they sound practically the same. i confess that i like the layout of the 2 better
OPX is one of the best sounding SoftSynths out there. However, much depends on the quality of your DAC to have the best sound possible!! (Apogee and DAD in my Studio, so this one sounds FAT)
Avevo una decina di emulazioni sinth che usavo con reaper. Ho scaricato la demo, e dopo cinque minuti, l’ho acquistato. Le ho cancellate tutte. Ora questo è l’unico che userò!
Without the risk of sounding too stupid (LOL), does the OP-X Pro-3 still require a standalone host to play it? I've had the OP-X PROII for years, really haven't used it cause the only way I could get it to "play" was by using savihost and hitting keyboard notes on my laptop screen, and I have a Roland DS61 that I thought I could somehow use to just play the sounds of the OP-X PRO II, but I got frustrated and stopped trying. If anyone has advice on what to do to correctly get the OP-X Pro II or 3 to play correctly, please send me a message or reply on here thank you! There's just too many 80's sounds I want to play but just can't seem to. I'm sure it involves setting up everything correctly. BTW I'm a Windows 11 user.
Anyone got OPX Pro 2 or 3 working with Reaper 7? Mine is just crashing reaper.
Take my money please!
Blue skin please!
I was hoping for more quality UI part in the new version, but we got the same laggy UI :(
Also the controls on macOS Sonoma are very laggy when turning knobs. Hope for a fast fix for that.
Any way the II is now looking a bit outdated, so I immediately bought the third :)
I wish we also could have skins one day.
@@almazmusic
I would for sure design good skins for it if so. Right now it's very hard to customize.
The little arrow knobs were never a good choice and I’m surprised they they’ve kept them in the updated UI. Too bad.
Nice, only 35 bucks if you upgrade!!
Only 4 from Vangelis?? ONLY 4!!!! Noooo 😂😂😂
No iOS app?
Sounds fantastic, but I quit using my OP-X Pro II four years ago due to its convoluted and ugly GUI - and don‘t see significant improvements in v3 in so far. I mean, we are no longer in the 1990s. 🤷♂️
I hope you consider different skins because that ochre scheme is bleh. It sounds good, but I'm not sure what's so different this update. I'll check out your one hour infomercial when I have that much disposable time handy.
Why not make a simple song, listen to the escape from new york soundtrack
well this is timely. I have been trying the Gforce "official" ob-x, and it just didn't hit me with the true OB vibes. Sounded generic to me. Op-x otoh.... Upgrade complete!
