It’s really hard to teach when the father doesn’t share the same language. Most people who are bilingual usually learn English as a second language because the other language was all they were taught at home. Once you go to school in the US you’re set to learn English. You practice both equally not by choice
You don't need both parents knowing a language to teach it to a child. The preferred method is having one parent speak exclusively to the child in one language and the other parent speaking in the second language...so Mimi could have spoken to the kids in Vietnamese and Remy in English. Him not knowing English doesn't prevent that transfer of knowledge at all...

@@m.b.4551 Thats kinda a reach though given whose family this is and i know not all family members help each other but Mimi is such a giving person and loves her family. So while you are right not all come here to the US and get glourious life (which last time i checked freedom of speech, voting/civil rights and liberties that we have in this country makes it a better life, than more than 90% of the world) thats what they come for, theres so many opportunities in America if you want to build that glorious life you CAN and thats why so many, tens of thousands of people are jumping the border to live here. And yes some claim asylum but thats only 7% of the population of people that come here about 25,000 each year.
