There is more to it then just dial and lug size compared to just your wrist. The sub is a big beefy watch. If your a big guy it can look great, if you have a smaller frame, it might be too big. If your questioning it, you're probably not completely comfortable with the size.

Great Video! The simple "rule" I like to follow is that the lugs should not extend over the flat part of the wrist. So, visually, the 40mm Sub looks perfect on your wrist I'd say.

    Short answer: no.

This is beautiful man! Thank you for sharing this with all of us! My wrist size is virtually identical to yours and found that the supercase wears large on me, but, the older 40mm cases fit like a dream (maybe this could be an option for you in the future?) Cheers for the video

Keep the sub. Looks good on you. The formula can only give you rough estimates, and you should be measuring lug to lug or 'wingspan' anyway. Also, the on paper specs of the watch don't matter as much as most people think. Some small watches wear bigger than others and vice versa due to many factors such as lug to lug, lug width or strap width in relation to dial size, whether or not a watch has a bezel and so on. Too many factors for this simplistic formula.

starter for 10, but doesn't take account of wrist shape. I for instance have a flatish wrist at a little under 7inches, but can comfortably wear a 42mm+ as the end links don't overhang the width of my wrist. a more rounded wrist works differently.

For your size wrist, the math gives a range of acceptable watch sizes from 33mm to 41mm. I think this is a little old fashioned. I am not a fan of huge watches at all, but the sub looks good on your wrist, maybe a bit chunky but no one would say it looks bad because of its size on you. At the same time a 33mm would look really quite small on your wrist.

So basically the perfect watch size would be 36,68mm ... Sth between 36 and 37. I have the same wrist size and bought a 1600. Many people consider it as too small on my wrists but i enjoy the hell out of it. For me its more important that the watch sits pretty flush on the wrists. So a thin diver or gmt is the next one I’m going to get. Sth like a 1675.

Quite a cool idea - will test all my watches when I get to my collection. Of course, measured size is not always the same as perceived size. A bit of discretion is needed.

It's only 40mm and, as a diving watch, it's supposed to be bigger than a normal watch anyway. If one thinks it is too big then that person must have a really small wrist. personally, I think it's too small and I like my Sea-Dweller 43 and even my Sea-Dweller Deepsea (44mm) better. Edit: I have since purchased a Submariner, but only because I was able to get the "Hulk" at retail price. It's my second Submariner. I actually love it, but my SD43 is still my favorite. You can see most of my collection on my channel (my Root Beer and Batman will make an appearance soon as well).

Cool formula. Definitely works for me. From experience I've found that my ideal case size is 34-36mm and this formula confirms it.

You should try a Deepsea :) I have a 7.25 and wear one as a daily.

My wrist is 163mm and I recently bought the royal oak 15450 yellow gold. Fits perfectly, I highly recommend. The service will be around $1000. Which is only a little bit more than my hulk, I think it’s reasonable. The warranty is 5 yrs, so I plan to just send it in at the end of 5th yr for a maintenance. It’s a splendid watch, very satisfied. AP is trying to tighten up the supply by killing off ADs. When that happens over the next yr or two, price will be more inflexible. So you might as well buy it now. I d try it out on your wrist first though, it does fit a little bigger than the 37mm on paper, because of the lug to lug distance being about 46, and it’s a integrated bracelet watch like the nautilus, which wears big. Please let me know if you have any questions.

It doesn’t look big at all. It’s a thick diver watch, with a bezel. It looks just right on your wrist. A smaller one will look ridiculous. The other watches look right at 36 because their dial extend much more to the edges.

That formula needs to be modified according to one variable: WRIST PROFILE. If your wrist looks equally thick seen from the side as it does seen from the top, meaning it has a ROUND profile, the formula works as intended. But if your wrist has a somewhat FLAT PROFILE, meaning it has a WIDE WRISTBONE without the amount of flesh over and under that would give it an equally large top-bottom radius, then you need to add a bit to get to ‘perfect’, and the top and bottom limits move up a bit too. A flat wrist-profile can take a bigger watch, naturally, though it will then prefer a narrower bracelet or a tapering leather band.

datejust 36. classic and elegant. looks good on 7 inch wrist in my opinion . but i realised a lot of people have watches that look just too big . is it really the modern standard or do they even know how to wear a watch ? its just my opinion of cos .
