- This is a timelapse video with commentary on the process behind this Blender Grease Pencil animation: Frieren's Eye.
I wanted to get back to hand-drawn animation with Blender, and I love the eye design that Frieren has, so here's the result!

Adding an “overshoot” drawing before the last keyframe makes a nice bounce! ^^

Is this your usual process when working on anime, or did you just to try use your process on Blender? Of so what are the differences you find software-wise?
I'm practicing anime style animation on TVPaint, but honestly I'd prefer to use only one program if possible...
This is not the process I use for anime, but mainly because they give me directions, specific materials, I deliver a certain way for the rest of the crew, etc.
I think you could use Blender since the essential tools are the same, it can also be super personalized, so you could tune it for 2D animation even more.
Maybe I’ll experiment with that in the future… “blender for anime pipeline purposes” or something like that :)

I'd seen some process videos from Studio Grosso and the 2D/3D Blender process is quite amazing. I've been digging the software in the past weeks and it's true that it's very customizable.

isn't it true you can make this in blender so you don't have to animate the frames, but use controls to close it with 3D?
You could do everything with 3D yes, I experimented a bit with making the iris with shaders, but in the end I’m a 2D animator so I preferred drawing for this piece
@@marianarira yes, I too am a 2d animator but my point is you integrate 3d into 2d and you save so much time with making 3d rigs that look 2d so that you can pose and save time vs frame By frame :). Your work is amazing I’m just not sure you completely see the power of animating 2d in blenders 3d environment
2D is not inferior. They're just different. Animating in 2d in 3d space is advantageous, but only if she wants to use it. She doesn't have to. ✌️@Boxels
@@princessthyemis great points. Nowhere did I insinuate 2d is inferior, on the contrary these new blender updates empower 2d artists in a 3d environment potentially saving hundreds of hours in posing and compositions :) great conversations here. Peace
@@princessthyemis if anything 3d artists should be jealous of talented 2d artists coming into blender… a few learning curves and a 2d arts is could fly with a hybrid of both 2d and 3d

Not yet! I plan to, but the anime work steals all my time 😅 but stay tuned!
