- electricbikere... Hi guys! While reviewing the new double-battery fat bike from FTH Power, I got to visit their headquarters in City of Industry, California near Walnut California. These guys started out in the electronics repair business and then branched into ebikes and battery replacement repair services based on interest from partner brands and shops. They now offer a way to get your ebike battery repaired if one cell isn't working, repacked with brand new cells, expanded with more power (a higher capacity), and they recycle the old cells. These guys are hazmat certified to ship anywhere in the US but can also work directly with people who drive to their warehouse. I thought it was a neat service and was impressed with their track record and professionalism. Seems like a great opportunity for people who have electric bikes that were made by companies that no longer exist or those who are looking for a more affordable option to keep their bike going than buying a brand new battery.
FTH Power has been around since 1997, repairing electronics like Kenwood stereo systems and other automobile electronics. They got into ebikes around 2016 and use them with their families for fun. The company is a partnership between the two gentlemen shown in the video. They estimate that the battery life for most ebike packs is about three years. Most replacement packs are priced $500 to $900 but their repair service costs around $300. They said that you can extend the lifespan of a lithium-ion battery pack by keeping it away from extreme heat and cold. FTH Power works with local customers directly, sometimes offers pickup and delivery, and they also partner with local shops like Sam's Electric Bicycle Center in Fullerton, CA.
The first step is for the company to receive your battery, then they hook it up to a machine that charges and discharges to identify the issue, then they give you a quote so you know how much it will cost and what repairs or replacement services are needed. In most cases, they also replace the battery management system BMS circuit boards too, which helps to ensure that everything is safe and functioning properly. Most ebike manufacturer companies in the us may produce batteries, but not have facilities for repairs... so that's a big part of what FTH Does, work for those companies. FYI, I shipped a large lithium battery once without the required hazmat paperwork and it was rejected by FedEx Ground at a Oklahoma City distribution center and returned to me. The hazmat certifications are no-joke. They sent the battery back with paperwork for me to fill out, but I had trouble filling it out since it was in cryptic shipping language. The only way I was able to get the right paperwork was to take it to a FedEx shipping center and have them fill out the paperwork. The cost was $40 for a 6 lb battery from the Midwest to California. Hope this helps anyone in the future when they are shipping a large lithium battery.

Sir I have need 48v 20ah & 80 ah batteries for e bike & rickshaws
I have not had a good experience with a battery rebuild. I had to explain multiple times that the battery was 52v (14s), the FTH provided shipping boxes were rejected by the carrier, the cost was significantly higher than quoted, one the batteries was shipped back to me fully charged (not partially charged) and one of the batteries does not reliably work. This is a great idea, however much more attention to the customer experience is needed. I'll post a positive update if the issues are resolved, however I am quite disappointed and can not recommend FTH at this point.
The staff at FTH are great! Other e- bike companies (even two top e- bike bike companies that I've purchased bikes from) are not as responsive as FTH to questions on products, services and technical issues. Thanks!

Happy with the battery pack I purchased for my Aventon Pace. HOWEVER my experience has been that while they may REPAIR they do not REBUILD. Sent my old Aventon battery in and got the following response - "The battery cells are too old, and need to be replaced, most repairs are only the power board, or wires, etc. " I sent this to FTH assuming they would be able to replace the old battery cells but evidently not.
another quality video. I must admit I'm very surprised to hear the odd business model of the battery manufacturers not having repair facilities!!!! I'd like to expand on the that whole ecosystem a bit more.
The only way for the OEM companies to insure batteries are 100% reliable is to sell you a new one. Rebuiliding/refurbishing often does not work reliably. There is a reason they cost $900 or more on Yamaha, Bosch and Haibike. Start saving your pennies and buy the one that fits your model before you need it. As the"big name" eBikes age, batteries could become totally unavailable
Nice job on reporting aspects of ebikes.
Nice video to introduce and know that this company exists. Certainly a wave of the future to have these shops on hand locally to repair/replace existing battery packs. This gives us hope to not have to depend on the mfgs to replace a worn out battery. A bit curious about out of state shipping costs to/from with factoring in the average $300.00 dollar charge to renew an existing battery. Hazmat companies are not something too many of us are familiar with that could complete the transaction.

I have a small electric bike that is brand new that will not turn on unless it is hooked up to the charger. When I have it plugged in it will turn on and it shows a full battery and horn honks but no throttle. When unplugged nothing will turn on. Totally dead. Any advice??

I use this bike for short trips from campground to beach,restaurant etc bike works great

For Shimano, Bosch batteries the following was disappointing from the FTH website:
“Unfortunately we are not able to repair batteries with proprietary data system such as Bosch, BionX, Shimano, Yamaha and other similar system. These systems have a data line between the batteries and the bike controller systems. The information on these data lines are not available from the manufacturer. If we were to replace the cells on these batteries, we will have to adjust and re-write the firmware in the BMS (Battery management system) however that information is not available from the original manufacturer.
Please do not send these types of batteries to us for repair as it will be returned to you un_Repaired.”
It would be great if they could manufacture a replacement for those batteries they cannot repair.
Do not be disappointed with this honest plea from FTH. You can purchase the original genuine battery replacement in most cases. The huge cost cannot be avoided if you want the life span that a pack using quality components can offer. I have been waiting for OEM batteries to lessen in cost but I do not think that will ever happen.

Hi can batterys be stored at 100% for a few days the od time?Or store them at 40-60 percent all the time?
Would you be able to fix a LECTRIC ebike battery that had case damage? I've been told that the battery will short just by having the smallest amount of water, and yes, I did have a lot of green goop type corrosion come from just the charging port. But the battery was completely intact.
Can we order say a triangle battery pack from FTH Power or do they only do refurbishing? There's a large DIY side to ebikes and batteries can be difficult to obtain at times.

You mentioned at around 4:34 that they might be the only hope for some batteries of companies that have gone out of business. I wonder if they rebuild Bionx batteries especially for systems and batteries they are no longer supporting.
I rebuild BionX in sweden. But they are some of the most difficult ones. I have a hall of fame where i keep trophies from all my bionx repairs.
I have a CYCBT battery pack that has no output. The charger can detect the battery on the input and can tell me when it's charged, but the output side is dead. When I push the button on the battery it shows a full charge. I checked the fuse, it's fine. I'm a little confused. I've heard these batteries have a BMS. Could that be the problem? What should I try?

I have a phantom x2 I bought used. The battery sits on top of rack but it different the life 04 it's got right angles . As soon as I plug it in ten minutes later it says it's charged but now it wasn't power my bike at all. Do u know how I can replace it did it? P please help

Great Video, It also sucks how there is so much red tape when it comes to shipping batteries. Hazmat Shipping is out of control, to many hands in that cookie jar, I should Know I have the Hazmat Endorsement on my license and I was also Hazmat Certified Who loaded planes with Hazmat. Where can I find a BMS for the battery pack for the Voltbike Interceptor?
I have a Surface604 fat tire canadian made bike I bought from Canada and the battery is dead, No help from Surface 604, can't find a replacement battery anywhere, poor bike jut sits in the shed. Thanks for this option, I'm also SoCal so maybe I'll bring the battery directly to them to repair.

I need a new battery for my Hyper e bike. Vendor Stock # HYP-E26-1201. It takes 36v. How can I acquire one because although I see 36v batteries when I search the net, there's different ones and I don't know which to go with.
Not directly addressed is the possible problem of firmware that may be installed on high-end emtbs that might prevent repacking/refurbishing and then being able to use the battery on that bike. Has anyone found that to be an actual problem for them personally? Maybe FTH Power could answer that question ?
Yes. Although not really addressed in the video, it will become VERY apparent if you try to have cells in a more sophisticated battery replaced. It cannot be done in most cases.Plan on buying another genuine OEM battery while still available.

I could not find the battery for my izip 24 volt, and when I did it was $700 got I took a Kobalt 24 volt battery ($29 and $8 speed control switch ) and now everything works great. I don't use the throttle control just to switch I put on a handlebars that is variable speed

The Bosch ebike software can now destroy the BMS the Bosch dealer have now been ask before recycle the battery to use the software to destroy the battery BMS my question is can they do anything to a Bosch battery that has this done to ?
