It's been a while since I could talk manga on here, I need to film more Manga videos in the future. I've actually read the case closed/detective conan volumes since filming this, and they are incredible! my newest favs ^^

MW is also my favourite Tezuka! That art book looks beautiful. It always makes me really happy when people have actually read Tezuka's stuff and know how good it is, rather than just appreciating it in this distanced, academic way. I find something uniquely comfy about Tezuka manga. Particularly when Vertical would just release an entire run of his stuff in a single phonebook volume. Sitting down with MW, or Ode to Kirihito, kind of activated the same part of my brain as reading a really good airport novel.
Maison Ikkoku looks like good vibes. I think I might try and watch the anime when I finish up Macross.
Ahaha Have you seen the panels or shots of Doremon putting his little mechanical ears on? Every time I saw that I would go "oh no, now he looks wrong to me" even though the ears made him read more like a cat? Doremon, you confuse but delight me somehow.
Man MW is so good, anytime I see some love for it out in the wild I'm stoked. I did fanart a LONG time ago, that wasn't good enough to post, I should go back and rework it haha. You're right about comfy, Tezuka manga always brings that wonder I had when I was younger and diving into manga. Like that "wow stories can DO this!?" amazing feel. I still can't get over just how much he drew in his lifetime, just a fascinating creator. I think everyone should have at least 1 solid favorite Tezuka manga (even if it's Bomba, which for some reason I felt the need to throw under the bus here, even though it's fine LOL)
I think you would dig Maison Ikkoku, and it's the kind of classic you can watch/read anytime, it's good for antime ^^^

So many great titles! Mushishi such rare find. It's always fun to see Case Closed volumes. It still amazes me how many volumes this series has. Your video just reminded me I still need pickup Lupin the 3rd volumes 😅.
Mushishi is one of those manga I never thought I would have, and it's stunning~ A gem for any collection.
Case Closed is really fun, which is so dangerous given the volume count lol. I'm already saddled with collecting all of one piece, I can't take on case closed, but having a couple of the early volumes, man they are good. I might make a twitter thread of some of my favorite panels, The art is really well defined. I think people notice the style more than the perspectives and paneling used.
And don't worry, they printed a LOT of Lupin, you might be able to snag it on a sale too : D

Always love to see some Lupin III! I also definitely need to check out that Araki book, I always love seeing behind the scenes type of stuff and the creative process of artists, it's fun!
I think I remember seeing someone mention how the English release of Conan is a bit weird since it changes the names of the characters haha, it's one of those early days weird localization I suppose. Good to see that Viz didn't drop the series considering how long it is. I'm kind of afraid to try to get into Conan since it's so long, since if I get invested that will basically become my life for a few weeks for sure since there's a lot of content to go through! The manga has over 100+ volumes at this point in Japan.
Fun fact that is not so fun, the Mushishi manga is super out of print in English so it sells for crazy prices online, the scalpers strike again! That volume 1 goes around for at least 70 USD xD. Love the series, Kodansha really needs to reprint it.

Kodansha, who owns the rights to the Mushishi manga, has recently been exploring the option in the US of re-releasing some of their older stuff, for example Initial D is getting a full release via omnibuses so I suppose it is possible for Mushishi as well! And for the US manga market it seems like things are finally starting to slow down after the big spike in interest that happened during 2020-2022, so scalper prices are also going down a bit from what I've heard and it's easier to find stuff in stock and in print which is great.
UA-cam's comment system is really unreliable, recently I set the option to receive an email whenever I receive a new comment or response to comments I made and I still don't have every comment or response come through to my email so there's that xD. But hey, at least YT isn't randomly deleting my comments anymore for no reason so it's progress I guess.
