I really appreciate the way you outline your approach and discuss varying your tactics. As a very average angler myself, I learn a great deal from you and have been able to improve my performances in my clubs over 60’s matches( a bigger group of elderly degenerates you would ever wish to meet). Thanks very much.
Anthony that's brilliant that you've managed to pick up some tips and up your game, getting the odd place or two makes it worth the extra effort and means you're catching more fish so, it's a win win. We are all getting older on the natural circuit, but there are some youngsters who prefer catching silvers to carp and I always try to help them out by donating my old tackle, you just can't beat river fishing for pure excitement.
hi john ,the music and the two barbel in the first twenty five minutes was electric .nice bag of small fish to bump the weight ,you deserve the win .stay strong ,stan in very rainy california . cheers .
Thanks Stan, it was a long overdue win but I'm chipping away at the league places after a poor start to the season. I'm out at Linton this weekend and on the Don the week after. The rain is getting more frequent here too but so far the rivers are in good condition, just hope they don't flood out in the next couple of weeks.
Brilliant video, well presented, lots of tackle info and commentary, watching those Barbel on the rod was great to see and any angler was rooting for you John to get them in the net. Set my alert for more.
Thanks John. Rob had a cracking day on the Barnsley water a couple of weeks back just after the 1st downpours which freshened the rivers up and put a bit of colour in, he had 35+lb, some nice chub, 5 big bream, 10 big skimmers and a bunch of silvers. Yes quite possibly a pike that killed the swim and then either took a small fish I'd hooked or I hooked it inadvertently on the whip at the end.
great win john you fished a top match 2 great barbel a good start is supposed to calm the nerves but in your case the old ticker nearly gave in ha mine too to be honest watching ha you handled them well john top man top angler
You're not wrong there, think I could have done with a steady plodding bream to settle in but hooking that barbel first chuck gave me a massive adrenaline hit, I'm not gonna lie there was a lot of pressure on to get the fish out in a match situation, even more so when you're filming but what a rush! Glad you felt it too👍
Well done on the win John! Never felt more invested in someone else's fish when you hooked the 1st barbel, nearly cried when you said it was snagged and so happy when you landed it! Well done on the win, again, and thanks for the great video(s).
What a lovely place to fish John. What a drop back bite yyyeeeee !!! nice barbel mate . Listen not being big headed but see what I mean about using bigger hooks . I wish I was there with you I just love fishing rivers because you never know what your going to catch. Get in there my son another nice fish. I've caught a few barbel myself but never over 1.5 lb so I never knew what power they have. Well done mate ..
There's a time and a place for big hooks Robert, and this venue I know the fish run big, much bigger in fact than those fish I had out in the match but they rarely feed through the day, feeling safer at night. Rivers are awesome and the Trent is truly magical, as you say, you never know what's gonna bite next I hope one day you get the opportunity to experience the power of a double figure barbel. Tight lines friend. 🎣
Thanks Chris, as you probably know, I'm not one to just rely on the feeder and the standard of angler in my club is very high so you have to work every match to get any kind of result. I'm up to 2nd in the league now and I've not had a particularly good year, have never drawn an end peg but just keep grinding out some consistent places,
you got your tactics spot on for this one john, and well done on the win. i allways enjoy your very professional blogs, good luck in the league, regards mick.
Gees my heart was goin mad with them 2 barbel John.cracking fish. The bits are.needed to bump up the weight.I think you played it spot on.Very well done mate.Think I’ll watch it again if I can stand the strain,ha ha.Till the next vid, tight lines John.🦈🐋.
Haha brilliant mate. my family were all on the edge of their seat watching even though they knew the result - that's the kind of video I love to make, build a bit of atmosphere and tension - sometimes it ends in tears, but this week was a good week. Linton this weekend ✌
The river was probably a bit low to really produce the better fish all day, a bit of colour and those barbel might have fed a bit longer. That section of Trent is a 90 mile trip each way for me but I do love that river so I always make the effort to go.
@@mikepattinson3285 that's a good old haul away. You should get a bivvy and bed chair or a camper van 😉 and go for a few days like most do at Collingham or A1 pits lengths, don't wait for old age.
Thanks Dave, yeah no idea what that last fish was but thinking about how the swim went off, it was maybe a pike but it just tore off when it realised it was hooked, nearly had the whip out of my hands.
Well done John (not Alan as said last time, sorry !!!!) Great start with those two Barbel, that'll build those muscles up. Another great video John thank you, Ian in the Borders
Bet that last fish lost on the whip was a Barbel. Last time I fished at Fiskerton, did all day on stick pretty close in and had four Barbel plus about 15lb of decent Roach…
Thats such a shame Martyn, maybe one day you'll be able to dust the rods off, in the meantime, I'll try and keep you entertained and you can land every fish with me 😉
Nice catch jon but with all due respect would you have not have 2 keepnets just in case you had dome big fish as to day barbel in one net small fish in the other net to avoid the small fish being squashed
Good point Gerald, not much I could do about it though, only had the one net with me. Personally I'd like to have them weighed and put straight back after a rest in the edge but the club isn't geared up to do that. My river net is 4m long though so all the fish were well out into the water and everything swam off strong at the end including all the little uns.
Well done John deserved win buddy ' right how tempted were you to stay and feed more on that barbel line ? I was shouting at the telly keep feeding it 🤣🤣🤣🤣 hey what do I know . 🙈
Thanks Martin, I would have loved to have sat out for another barbel but after another 40 mins on it and just the one perch, it seemed like the right time to get onto the silvers line. It's not that often you get barbel out through the day on the Trent, they're a bit nocturnal so catching a couple late morning, I considered very lucky.
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel to be honest those overcast conditions at the start probably got whiskers on the munch ' some funny light patterns at one point it actually looked like a moonlit night with the sun seaming to be buried in cloud anyway it worked ' well that and the skills of the lad sat on the box ' and that's it I'm saying no more you'll never get your head through the van door . 🤣🤣🤣
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel No worries. I'd just bought mine with a new stainless steel extendable bank stick, only used it once and left it at Park View.. Great skill landing those barbel.

I believe in Karma. Thanks for watching pal.👍
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel I found a feeder rod and reel attached to a duck down the Swale about 20 year ago. Saved the duck. I saw that as karma for the tool that left a rod unattended with the bait hanging down out of the water.
Why even net it ? Surely the best thing would be to rest it, weigh it and return it to the water. It can't be good to be crammed in a net with a load of silvers.
Yes that was Clive and he was very disappointed not to crack 10lb, he said he had a fish every run through on the stick right from the off but I knew there were some good fish in there so had to hedge my bets with the feeder to start and for once I got lucky.
