As promised, here is some information about the saint I chose for confirmation: St Angela Merici.
Why Angela? Both my godmother and confirmation sponsors (two different wonderful and faithful women) are named Angela and being as I am very proud of my Italian ancestry-it was fitting that St Angela is from you guessed it! Italy
St Angela lived from 1474-1540 and her feast day is Jan 27th (also fitting as it is the day after my birthday)
She is known to be the patron saint of educators/teachers. (This too is fitting, as you may or may not know I am a music teacher by trade and began full-time church work after I had my children. )
After St Angela was orphaned in her teens she joined the Third Order of St Francis. On a pilgrimage to the Holy Land St Angela was struck with sudden blindness. She continued on the pilgrimage and on the way back from the pilgrimage was praying before a crucifix and miraculously her sight was restored.
St Angela is also known for starting the Company of St Ursula. She did this at age 60 with 12 other women. At the time, it was something new and different as it was a group women living as consecrated to Christ, but with no formal habit or vows and they lived in the world not in a community together.
After St Angela’s death, in the early 1600s, the Company of St Ursula became the religious order of St Ursula or the Ursuline nuns and their mission is to teach girls.

Father Dave, thank you so much for your Mass. I very much appreciate the singing today! It's one thing I so miss about going to Mass. I was diagnosed with stage IV cancer and although I am doing well (praise God!), the medicine I take makes my immune system very low. I tried to go to Mass during Christmas time and got sick. It took me almost 8 weeks to recover. Blessings to you during your trip to Alaska!

Saint Angela Merici was an Italian woman who dedicated her life to educating young girls. She started the Order of St. Ursula, the order of Ursuline nuns who to this day are dedicated to the education of girls. I am a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy in Dallas Tx. The Ursulines made me believe I could do anything I set my heart on. I credit them with my success as a Catholic educator for 45 years. So YES! St. Angela is legit!

Thank you for celebrating mass today. We really needed it. Last week, we were at a school nurses conference in Chicago. We also swam a mile in Lake Michigan! .. and contracted COVID and returned to NH by car. 😮

Thank you for another beautiful homily Father Dave! Padre Pio has been a favorite saint since I first learned about him. He has never let me down and through his intercession, I have had many answered prayers. Another very powerful saint is Saint Charbel. Father Chris Alar did a presentation about him on UA-cam. The number of miracles that he has helped bring about are incredible!
