Ranger Amy Washuta tells us all about our wonderful namesake, the cypress tree! Join her in the swamp to learn more about this most Floridian of trees.
excellent work... Everytime I travel to Mexico or to the US l pay close attention to the trees that happen to be uncommon in Cuba such as cypress and oaks junipers etc... it's a bless to have the gift of sight that a lot of people take for granted and admire nature in all of its splendor wherever you go... The trees in the video are Pond Cypress-Taxodium ascendens; Bald Cypress are Taxodium distichum. Pond Cypress are easiy identified by their 'bottle shape' base, but the leaves differ as well as their bark. Both will drop their leaves in winter and time of severe drought. Beautiful trees...
the buttress seems to happen at the high water mark at least looking at the stains on the tree, so they usually just form in trees in the water constantly and affected by seasonal flooding
Thanks for helping me
Thank you very much for this good video and for sharing all the information about these trees. Very good lesson! Best of luck on all your work!
