Amazing guy. One of the best Vlogs I’ve seen for honesty & common sense with regard to budgeting & attitude to life. It doesn’t matter what you spend, it’s how you appreciate & enjoy what you’ve got.
Spot on my friend!!
I appreciate that!

I totally agree. There are so many expats comign here to the Phils to try and recreate the West... why? We want to escape the West, embrace what the Philippines has to offer!
Maybe we should drive up to Porac and visit Darrell? I watched when he got his place, and was watching him fix up the place.
He's living life on his own terms! 👍
Hey Jerry, I'll leave the light on for ya!!
That is the plan Jerry

I love Darall story it never gets old. I’ve seen him on many other channels and his own channel. I miss his videos once in a while and always find my way back to his channel.
I definitely could live like him, but I really don’t have too.
I’m thinking about the huge amount of savings that I could have in a short amount of time if I lived like him. I really hope to score a dwelling to fix up for someone with a long-term rental agreement at a reasonable amount like Darall did.
With the extra income, if I found a girlfriend, I could definitely help her family out and change their life even if it’s just a big bag of rice for their neighborhood or village.
Darrell is great

Hmm, No crime in the area being referenced but there is plenty of crime in the PI. The Philippines has a shabu problem, and with that comes other crimes. And some of them turn violent when you can't get your meth fix. Most criminal activity is what one might call "petty crimes" in the US. Generally speaking though, the PI is much much safer than most of the USA.
The bottom line is he is correct. A disciplined person can mimic what he is doing all over the PI. 7000 plus islands with varying infrastructure and cultural advantages. All that can change if you're tight for cash and have a chemical addiction problem, so keep that in mind.
I once took a bus trip through many US cities and there was many places people warned not to go.
🇨🇦 is far from perfect but it is safe as a whole .. not the perfect model but you could use a piece of it for sure
My other problem being people taking all the bailouts when I'm elected as president of New Canada the bailouts will be trimmed ..get off your ass and work lol the world doesn't owe u a living because you drove your husband insane and he killed himself 😂😂

Every country has some crime…especially in certain areas that you can avoid. I’d say the Philippines is far safer than many Western countries now. You don’t get stabbings and rapes on an almost daily basis there.
Cheap rent equals more money for traveling, sounds good to me. Thanks Darrell, Mike and Janet

Appears obvious to me -- that those who can't believe this is possible -- do not understand the difference between a want -- and a need ! - - - Surviving is living -- and a vacation to DUMAGUETE from Angeles is more than - simply surviving ? Many people ignorantly squander their $ falsely thinking ''that'' is living ! -?- Irresponsible spending does not equate to ''living'' necessarily. - - - Darrell has his shit together and - '''wants for nothing''' !!! > He simply assures himself of getting his money's worth - when he spends it ? And he clearly doesn't squander much !!!

Girlfriend and I are living in Baguio in a 4 bedroom fully furnished house. I honestly wanted the space, cooler climate, and a new vibe for a new year. I am finishing up my first year here. 40k php for the house, utilities including wifi 7k php a month. Add about 14k php a month for groceries, snacks, and alcohol. Add another 1,400 php for netfix and apple tv. Medical insurance i got Pacific Cross for us both, and the top tier plan for each of us was roughly a total of 15.5k php per month. We plan on reducing our plan this coming cycle. Roughly speaking, we are living on $1350 usd a month, not including entertainment expenses. This is for two people living in the city, good luck to you all!
That is awesome Chris. I love Baguio. It reminds me of when I lived on Nob Hill in San Francisco 20 years ago. High positive energy cool weather etc. And so many things to do every day

Hi daryll.
Good to see you buddy.
Now Mike.
You can see that you DON'T need to "climb trees for bananas to eat"
In order to live reasonably comfortably here.
Myself and Jessa cannot pass 800.
We don't have rent or payment's.
Singled out we would be coming in a lot less than 600 but we have our own meat, eggs and vegetables.
We don't live under a rock in the province. Truth be told our houses are possibly a higher standard than what the majority of expats are renting.
Coming from Ireland, when I removed the old roof from the house and stacked it neatly in the back yard because I wanted it for another project. I asked her if they were safe there and should I move them incase someone stole them and she laughed and said "this is not Ireland"
Philippines for the most part is very safe
Nice to see you here my friend!!
not paying rent is a big saving
@@mikesphilippineretirement you needed this video as much as your viewers did.
I think you are starting to gain a valuable insight into how we really live in the province.
Not just from a guy fresh off the boat such as your previous video (although he was interesting) but an expat who is already seasoned.
Darryl is a good man. A lot of expats would do well to take note of how he lives.

I am glad you all can find a place there in the sun. I am simply perplexed, and would first have to read a book on the subject of jumping the states for somewhere else. I would think to cross the ocean on a boat with a 10 foot shipping container, if I wanted to hang my hat. I used to have next to nothing, and I was so much freer. Awkarumba.
I have a few videos about this topic on my channel. If you came for a visit you would return with a very different mindset about moving here. My next video is exactly on this topic

We are going to retire in the Philippines in a couple of years. We help my wife’s daughter and their family and we could help other family members in the Manila area but my wife makes a good point. She says that if we are there, then it’s easier to not be as helpful EVERY family member. That would allow for a lower budget ( uncertain about numbers at this time )
I did a budget video and took the video while actually shopping. That might be helpful in estimating some expenses

Homeboy is becoming a celebrity.
Been watching since the beginning.
A very interesting channel, highly recommend.
There's a big difference between having a $600 a month income and only spending $600 a month on average.
For most of us. $600 isn't going to cut it. Especially at first.
After several months of getting settled and finding your groove.
It's probably possible to average out your expenses to a pretty low amount.
If your income is $2k and you're spending $600-800 a month. That's totally doable.
My current budget in the US is minimal because I'm saving every dime. My monthly budget is way below anyone else's. I also have more than many in a similar situation.
Knowing what you need and saving for what you want is the key. Reduce financing and resist credit cards. Cook for yourself and be self sufficient.
Cheers to one and all ✌️🍻
Cheers Frank! Nice to see you here on Mikes channel

It's going pretty good.
The weather here in the PNW is really nice. Mid 70's to low 80's and dry of course.
I usually get a pretty consistent stream of information.
The subject matter comes in waves.
Whether it be about budgets, dating, housing or changes to Visa type of stuff.
Comes in cycles.
I think I've been following the Philippines information stream for about 10 years now.
Have a pretty good idea what's happening over there.
I also am interested in Thailand and Vietnam for visiting. Not so much to live. I hear Thailand is not so friendly to retirees. Not as easy as the Phils.
I'm hoping to return some time late this year or early next year.
A few health issues set me back on funds and vacation time. I'm pretty sure I have it all sorted out now. At least there's nothing to restrict me from traveling.
Last trip was a bit of a failure. I still enjoyed myself. Just wasn't able to do most of the things I'd hoped to do.
My next trip I plan to visit 3 cities. See how that goes.
I have about 4 years left to formulate a retirement destination.

I can not live on a budget like that but many do

I think he's doing this for clicks & for the people who have little in retirement, but it's just a matter of time b4 he packs it in and leaves for somewhere else or back to the U.S. , not to be neg here, just realistic.
@@danramsay5844 You could be right. Eventually the provinces, jungles, and beaches start to blend together and with not much purpose it does get boring.
You obviously have never watched my videos. That $600 budget is documented. See for yourself before you make such ridiculous statements
@@dumaguetedreaming I am really ever bored. I travel often and have other awesome projects. I am not a moron as you suggest. You might try doing some research before you chastise people you don't know as if an expert. But some just like to appear to be an expert. There is a name for that in first year classroom psychology texts.
But you are being neg and not realistic. I've been here 2 1/2 years. Contempt prior to investigation. ua-cam.com/video/GYtrWBKpOGU/v-deo.html

Darrell's the man PS mike i am Living in Sydney Australia on 1200$ USD a month and i save money on that (Disclaimer I own my house and car outright ) Sydney is ranked the 10th most expensive city in the world so I would definitely have to disagree

Ha, some funny stuff Mike. I've personally had several pick pocket attempts myself in the Philippines, none in the USA. None were successful but they sure try. I've had attempted scam at a money changer, again it failed. To say there is no crime is simply not accurate. Maybe you can be in places with less to almost no crime but let's not fool people into thinking there is no crime.
I just watch a video of a guy was robbed of his cell phone. Philly wife was robbed at knife- point. I know several guys who had Filipinos break in the house and Rob them when they were sleeping. Some woke up with the Filipino in the process of robbing him
I can go on and on Mike.
Simply not true.
Guess it depends on where you live. Same can be said in America ""depends on where you live or hang out."" It simply is true in the areas I live and hangout 100%...

this guy has a winter hat on!? I'm sweating just watching him! how does he do that? Man its hot in the PI
He got skin cancer, so that's why he wears it
The hat is acrylic and not super hot. We were at a resort 100 yards to the ocean and some where around 70 degrees. I'm from San Diego and having spent way too much time in the sun over the years I am prone to Skin cancer. I'll be having my 3rd operation next week. That is the best hat for covering your ears and also why I wear long sleeve shirts when I will be out in the sun

Incognito guest making sure facial recognition would not recognize him in Philippines haha. For me it was distracting.
No nothing to do with facial recognition at all my friend. Nothing to do with incognito. I look exactly like this for years in San Diego. Now that I'm in the Philippines people think it's incognito Hahha... funny
Carey. How can a guy like Darrell his size and his look be incognito in the Philippines. He stands out in a crowd

Are you ever gonna run out of vloggers to interview? Wondering when you're gonna make your own content.😢
Old dog did the same guy last week
@@MyMexicanDreamMC it's called the " Dumaguete Circle Jerk ". It is where the vloggers interview other vloggers. No new content, just crap.
I'm Thinking of just making a copy of others vloggers videos and just post it and collect the money

You can live on $300 pm but your choices will be limited.
Darrell is doing what he enjoys on $600 so good for him. Unfortunately it wouldn’t pay my rent but that’s my choice. My choices cost more but I have it so no problem 👍
I could easily pat $1,000 for monthly rent and still able to travel. I don't live in a poor area. My neighbour's are Japanese, British, Saudi and Filipinos.. Houses worth millions each. It's just not in the city
