I think you're a little harsh Tim. When talking about bicycle taxi people. Society needs all kinds of workers and to each their own capacities. At least these taxi people are working for a living. I've always thought that was the best measure of a person's character. I dont look down on any hard working person ...

He wasn't putting them down. He was trying to say I believe he would strive to do something that brought in more money...I know that's easier said then done if you don't know how to do more than that. But to work so hard and make maybe a 200 or so pesos isn't a good return on hard work.

I think you guys are kind of missing part of the point. Yeah it's good to work hard and if that's all you got then you start out just doing whatever you can, but you don't stay in that forever and just say oh this is all there is , I'm not going to try and improve my life. You live cheap and save everything you can and you upgrade from a pedal bike to maybe renting a motorized tricycle until you can go buy your own and so on and so forth. Progress is proven to make people happy even if it's just a little bit at a time

Considering living costs in The Philippines most likely this channel will just suffice to survive over there. Furthermore he might have some business going on back in the States, we are not sure, but let's assume this channel and the 3th party sponsors we see now and then will do roughly the job. Based on view counts this channel should revenue I think $ 1,500 to $ 2,000 per month. Which is, in The Philippines a decent amount. Tim often spoke about not being rich, but just moderate and managing to keep himself afloat. Aside from the UA-cam channel, what could a Western guy actually do in The Philippines? As accustomed to western salaries we would not take any job in The Philippines consider the very LOWWWW wage it yields. Simple full time work in a factory (10 hours per day, 6 days per week), you have maybe 10,000 - 15,000 pesos per month. ($180,- - $270,-), but that is pretty hard work. Investing, doing a UA-cam channel about your life there is much better. And my Filipino wife is an investor in fishing ponds in Dagupan. Also a pretty nice way of earning money.

Your avocado plants may not produce the same type of fruit you want. The avocados we eat have specific genetics and to get that same fruit, you may actually need to take a cutting from the orginal plant

    • @Syvtek
      @Syvtek Рік тому +3

Correct. The chance that you will get a plant that bears edible fruit is near zero. Avocados are not true to seed. The avocados we eat are genetic anomalies that were found to taste good. To preserve the strain, Avocados are propagated by cuttings so the fruit will be the same texture, taste and quality as the original. Otherwise you are wasting years of your life growing a tree which will be worthless for it's fruit. If you want to grow an avocado tree, buy a cutting from the strain of avocado you want and forget about those seeds, Tim.

Best advice I got from a Asian friend when living in China was if the Asian woman really cares about you that she will spend your money like it’s her money. Meaning, she will spend it very frugally. You will be amazed how little they can spend especially if they are from a poor background.

Buy now, pay later is not the whole US way of purchasing. Life in the US varies in regions or the many cultures residing here. Personally I can understand Chrissy's way of saving because I do that also. Life is easier when you don't aquire debts.

    • @johnc2438
      @johnc2438 Рік тому +6

Yes... it's a mindset. If you have personal control, you don't need to fall into a trap of buy now, pay later (and forever). I'm an American retiree, living in the U.S. (amazing!), and everything my Filipina wife and I have is paid for. We saved, invested, and made sure our Social Security was in order -- and all debts were paid -- before we retired. Now, we can live comfortably in the U.S (yes, the U.S.!) without worrying about bills and even inflation. My wife is able to help others in lesser situations here in the States and in the Philippines, too. I like that. We never purchased a car with a down payment. If we could not afford a new car, we purchased a used car. And when we were able to purchase new cars, we drove them for years and cared for them. Look at the debt problems in China, for example. Until recently, everyone was comparing U.S. and Chinese finances (on a personal and state level). This is not an issue just with the U.S. "way" but a universal condition where people want their goodies now and will pay them off over years, never getting ahead of the curve. The person responsible for your finances is the person you see in the mirror each morning. Listen to that person's good advice and odds are you will be fine, no matter where you came from or where you live today.

Small tip, if you want to grow avocados, note the following.
    - The pit should only be halfway in the water (so put the toothpicks down into the jar).
    - When the plant is about 8 inches (20cm) long, cut it off 2 inches (5 cm) above the pit so you get a nice little bush and not just a long stem with a few leaves on it.
    - Avocados don't like direct sunlight at first.
    - Place the plant in loose, stony soil so that it will get its first leaves after pruning.
    - Avocados need regular watering, but not standing water in the pot
have fun with, take care and i like your Vlogs, great stuff keep going !

Saving up and paying with cash is the weird way of doing things in the U.S., but its Grandmas good ol' fashioned advice. Nothing wrong with a good province Filipina that is steering you down the path to sacrifice now and wait for those big ticket items. The borrower is slave to the lender and its a good thing to live a debt free lifestyle, a lot less money stress on the marriage.
I enjoyed the commentary, but as I was commenting with my asawa here with me in the U.S., it makes a big difference if you marry a province girl or a big city Filipina. They come from completely different backgrounds so money is going to be whole different conversation with a marte arte city girl than with a down to earth province girl.

It comes down to whether you are satisfied (happy) with your station in life or you need to climb the corporate ladder with more money as a goal. It exists in the Philippines and it exists here in America. Both places are alike in that people are just wired differently. I rest happily in the former category.

  • @foddermucker

I grew up poor in the Province and I used to go plant or harvest rice, corn, onion, cabbage, or whatever it is in season for a paltry sum or percentage depending on the agreement before work is done. It was so hard to make money that it is normal not to have money. I can't buy shoes, underwear, or whatever I need and it becomes normalized to a point where having money is an exception. I envied my friends whose parents had better incomes and could afford to buy them basic necessities. I remember hating the poverty I was in that I promised I will not end up poor.
I worked hard and finished college but even after getting a good-paying job, I still couldn't save enough to buy basic things. I only got to save more and help my parents and siblings after working abroad and becoming an OFW. That was in the 80s. Nowadays, I think there are so many opportunities to create wealth in the Philippines without going overseas. Changing people's attitudes to go into money-making businesses instead of working for others is the main thing to overcome. We were taught to work hard instead of smart for the money. From what I see now, I think Pinoys are changing for the better. More people are becoming creative as far as making money goes.

I´ve probably run into the wrong people in the Philippines because my story isn´t quite as positive as yours. I am currently in a long distance relationship with a Filipina that I have visited several times - and she has also been in my country on a visitors visa for a couple of months - however due to Covid and her work situation, we haven´t been able to meet in personal recently. I have to admit that money has been an issue in our relationship - and it took some time for me to tell my girlfriend that even I am a "foreigner", people here don´t make millions of USD every month, so I have a budget too that I need to stick to. She has totally understood that now. The saddest part however are the siblings of my girlfriend who have asked me for money too. One thing is that they are asking me for money. I actually find that disrespectful. Secondly, two of her siblings have even un-friended me on social media etc. and are no longer chatting with me - because I didn´t want to lend them money. That - of course - makes my girlfriend sad, and she even had to tell her little sister that if she would ever ask me for money (again), she would do something to her sister that I cannot put in words here on UA-cam.
I really don´t want to be disrespectful towards Filipinos / Filipinas - and there are good and bad people in every country - however I don´t think I will EVER be able to understand the totally disrespectful way many Filipinos are treating other peoples money. When I am in the Philippines I feel that I constantly have to have my defense mechanisms up - or people will take advantage of me. That starts in the airport on arrival with the "pirate taxies" and continues basically everywhere, when shopowners charge me "foreigner tax" e.g. when I need to have my cell phone repaired etc.
Oh yeah - and finally there was also a friend of my girlfriend - who told me that her father had died and she didn´t have enough money for the funeral etc. I told her that I can´t help her - so she basically got angry at me. I don´t understand things like that and I just find it disrespectful.

This living at ones level is not only a Filipino trait, it is similar throughout Asia, and even throughout the west. Most people, regardless of whether they are from the east or west, do not rise above the class status they were born into. Most middle class Americans do not suddenly become wealthy, but it seems they did because the cost and class levels of living is so much different from those of poor countries. For example, you work hard, but would you be able to afford what you have in the Philippines if you were living in NY? I grew up in NY, and most of the people I grew up with since the 50’s and 60’s are still living in either the same area, or in the same class status as what we grew up with. They struggled to put food on the table, and now have to worry about retirement. It’s actually become more difficult in the west because of unrealized expectations. So a kid whose father rides a trike in a poor country will tend to follow that path, with maybe a slight divergence. There are those who break through, in all cultures, and for many in the US, the military might be a way out, or some kind of special talent guided by luck breaks them through. But in the end, being content is about being able to live with what you have, without grand expectations; but, if you find a special path, as you have, there are great benefits to those who recognize that path and follow it.

That seems fair. If everyone you went to school with got rich? You'd end up in a country with a president who can't compete a sentence, who's son has seen more coke than Pepsi, who has commited 10+ federal crimes, elected as the most popular president of all time.
Inflation would rise rapidly as your rich friends spend money they do not have. For them to gain money, would mean that everyone below them would see a wage decrease with inflation. What's it St now, 20%? I'm talking in the real world. Food prices, gas prices, energy prices.
Energy prices increases 400% in UK since 2020 January.
Are you sure you want that?

  • @ejtaylor73
    @ejtaylor73 Рік тому +4

I think a Filipina that grew up with out all the shiny and fancy things will be 1 of 2 people when there is money, she will either remain the humble person she was or she's going to go extravagant and buy things she's never had or thought she would have. Everyone wants to have a better life, and money can help provide that in having a roof over your head, food on your table, clothes on your back, safety and security, there's nothing wrong with wanting that in life, it's when you think there's an unlimited supply of money and waste it on unnecessary things that it becomes a problem. Another factor could be in the western world, many were brought up learning the value of money, being taught to be financially responsible, and working hard to earn it (Not exactly what's going on in the world now with technology and social media making everything quick and easy). On the flip side of those trike drivers that are using bikes, maybe they are doing what they have to in order to change their situation, start out with the bike and save up for a motor bike, then upgrade their trike to motorized to make more from it or ditch the trike and be a food delivery person and make more from it, or it could be they're doing what ever they can just to survive because there are no other opportunities for them. You pretty much need a university degree just to work at Jolibee's or as a cashier, is it really that difficult to push a button on a cash register. Her family was surviving before the foreigner got there, they will survive without his assistance too, it should be the foreigners choice whether he wants to help out, he's the one that worked his butt off most of his life to EARN the money he has, and shouldn't just be expected to give it away. As you said it's important to talk about your intentions and her/her family expectations right up front, set and STICK TO those boundaries, if you can't reach a common ground, better to move on and look for someone else, because it will create a lot more problems down the road and you won't be happy.

Glad to see you’re doing well and looking lighter/healthier. And yes a big part of our decisions… Let’s see consumption can be based or viewed as the glass half full or empty.Keep it coming.😎🇨🇦

Funny you talked about buying a house. That was my feeling we bought land and paid it off first. When the land was paid for i told my gf to use the land as collateral and borrow money from bank to pay mortgage. She couldn't believe i said that. She said she didn't want someone to be able to take it away and didn't want to pay interest. So I sent her money each month and she would go to the hardware store and every month buy things until eventually she had enough to begin to drill well and put in foundation. She did this over a course of couple years and the day came when she moved in with her kids while it was being completed. So now we have a house and land and no mortgage. It took time and we still have more to finish but it has everything necessary so when I retire there in September only costs will be food and electricity etc. I think Filipinas are very smart even though it may go against western culture.

Take whole unpeeled bananna with the stem and dip stem end in a root starting compound...stick bananna stem down halfway its length into a flower pot filled with potting soil. Water like any other. BAM! Transplant to yard...BAM!

My ex Filipina considered it an indignity to sleep in the car when we immigrated to the US even though it was temporary as we looked for rentals or were traveling. I also roughed it to save cash and it paid off with having money to invest and I also enjoy adventure. We have a nice water front home now but my now Guatemalian wife doesn't mind roughing it and is quire frugal buying stuff at flea markets etc.

All I need to do is buy my diesel Toyota Hilux GR manual trans, brand new and I'm good. And my $500 rent apartment includung water, internet, utilities and I'm golden. Never looking back, and if I do meet a filipina and we date or marry, I'm letting her know I have no interest in going back to the states to live, my life and retirement will be there permanently.

Interesting take, from my experience living in the Philippines, the need to be upwardly mobile or go getter, depends of several factors like are there other common examples of different people being successful, are there any opportunities or support, do you have connections or direction enough to pursue opportunities and of course all this with the basic need to eat and have shelter. The Philippines is not blessed with the many opportunities like other western countries where all you have to do is work hard to at least have a little bit of something, in that country you can toll day in and day out just for your next meal.

It's crazy to give your girlfriend the most expensive thing, Mac book IPhone 13. It's like in Thailand. Then they think the man has unlimited funds. So when I'm there I have an iPhone 8 with me and an old Nokia phone and say that I've worked hard all year to be able to take a 6-week holiday in Thailand. So they don't expect diamonds and gold and luxury. But do they have the perception that you have 10 million baht in the bank. So there is no limit, they do not understand economics as they do in Denmark. I'm not telling you that I myself have an IPad pro 11 at home in Denmark and bought an iPhone 13 myself. I don't choose to talk economics over there, I pay with Max 100-500 baht, which is 8 dollars. 🇩🇰🦋⛱🏖

Many of these philippinas goes beserk when they come here and start partying and gambling right away . Frankly , I know only 1 family that the marriage lasted longer than 5 years ! My own lasted that long and most of my friends that was married divorced after 5 years . Im still paying of bills , 30 year after the divorce , on an aparment that I dont even own !

Believe it or not the Philippines and the way they live their lives seem to be happier than people in the West who are always scheming, climbing on the backs of others to get to the top. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with ambition but money does not necessarily make a person happy especially when they don't have time to spend it because they're burning both ends of the candle on the job.
I think that's one thing that's attractive to American men or foreign men in general is the lack of materialistic females in the Philippines. In the states when you first meet a girl within the first minute or two she's wanting to know what you do for a living only for her to determine how long she's going to talk to you unlike filipinas who you can carry on a conversation with for a long time and they will never ask you about your money or what you do for a living. I find that extremely refreshing.

  • @JeremyLuebke

Yeah one of the biggest issues I have staying in PH is the lack of people around me who are ambitious. I am a 100% believer that you will become the average of the 5 closest people around you. Having online friends who are ambitious helps, but it's not the same as in person influence.

Both my girls are working from home using internet and are earning enough at least to buy what they need like books, makeup, clothes, food they like specially tea drinks that Im always saying have this high fructose corn syrup which is bad for health.
My Mom came from a former business class old family and that means we were not buying more clothes or shoes, only for special occasions or when it doesnt fit anymore. Fortunately I had an Aunt and Grandma who gives me more things than the usual 1 black shoes and 1 pair of very cheap so called sport sneakers.
I remember when I went to this International school in KSA and twice skid on the damp course for relay racing coz my sneakers cannot grip the floor.
I complained but my Mom said no budget! So I told my Tito who attends the church services and also a pastor in the what they called The Mission. They were Methodist. Some Americans couples with kids who needs baby sitters attend too. I got a job making 12 riyals for 3 hours plus free snacks!
My Mom has 4 years of home economics and 1 year of pharma, but my Dad did not want her to work. To my surprise he said that I could. Now I was only 13 years old, but I said I will have my money to buy my sport shoes so that I wont slide and hurt myself next school yr.
My Mom has this mentality that since I have one it will have to do coz my foot will get bigger LOL. Unfortunately I have a petite size. I only had size5 and since I got 3 kids Im now size 6.5. When I reached 18 yrs of age my Mom, did
get me some expensive designer Italian and french shoes and clothes as well in Europe..
I was before this buying Tom MCaans shoes and had at least 1 Candy high heeled sandals, everytime I went to the USA.
Now with my kids our lifestyle changed, I prefer to buy for my kids and less for us the parents. This of course is the norm specially here in PI.
My expenses now just for electricity runs upto 500USD. That includes a 2 story apartment and a separate one where my son and our grandkids are staying.
Im prepping so I have more canned tuna stocks, vienna sausages, bottled olives and olive oils, Chili Nachos, vitamins, shampoos, soap atbp.
No more new Italianne shoes nor bags nor clothes or even branded glasses coz I already have a collection of them and then some.
Just be more practical and buy local from Malls and just make do in these pandemic times.
I think Filipinas are relatively more resilient and less to complain about wants vs needs.
But more Filipinas now are able to go out of the country and provide for their families too. Our nurses alone are world reknowned for their brand of care and highly valued by many countries.
We also hold quite a nos of International beauty queens, some were born outside the country but had Filipina mothers.
And now we even have women wordclass gold medalist athletes in weight lifting unheard of coz 80yrs ago nobody can even see the girls heels!
Its in our DNA to be competitive and bring home the gold. I hope that whoever will marry a Filipina will first get to know her very well. See to it that he will be able to treasure her, for if you do, they will love and care for him and family for the rest of her life!

Thats because Steve, Australia has become to multicultural and diverse in relation to migration etc; in my opinion.. It's not like it was 30 years ago where people earned their money and worked hard for it and also typically, it was your normal average Australian back then compared to now, where you got mixed nationalities.. Multiculturalism has always been a thing with Australia, but I think in the last 10 - 15 years, it's evolved too much. I visit parts of Asia when i can, and see a big difference in countries like Thailand or Vietnam vs Australia; you get people that are much more respectful and happy with what they have to what Australia is and you just get people here that moan, complain and worry about what they don't have, instead of what they do have.
