the boat looks brand new . excellent work ! nice to see how the hull handles , even if it was a short run . should be easy to work out the bugs now that the hard work is done .

too much friction between the flexible shaft and the brass tube, I didn't see if you used that plastic tube on the brass tube, that's where I think the smoke comes from

Cooking the grease is a possibility. In fact it's probably the only thing I can think of that happened. Nothing else was damaged.
