what he meant is that he lost everything in the world. he lost the world he knew. he lost his home and his life. not only his daughter, he even lost his brother at one point when tommy left him. he lost Tess and they've probably known each other for years. He lost his world, not only Sarah.
I kind of got the feeling that Joel was just talking about Sarah when he said that line, but even so, you could argue that Ellie lost her world too. When she and Riley got bitten, Ellie lost her best friend, the only person in the world that she really cared about. In discovering her immunity, she lost the little safety that she had in this world, switching out days at the military academy for a life of traveling across the country trying to avoid and kill both infected and humans, all in an effort to find a vaccine that she would unknowingly have to die for. Like Ellie said at the beginning of the game, she didn't ask for this. Being a 14 year old girl who's had her life turned upside down, I'd say Ellie has a pretty good idea of what loss is.
+Parzival 082 I think that was to show how ignorant Joel was at that point. Everybody in that world has lost somebody. In a way Ellie is worse off because she doesn't even have memories of a normal world.
although in some sense she might be better off then him, because she would be more used to the loss in the world she was born into, in his world he wasn't. just like the saying ignorance is bliss in her case, because her attachments are different. the complexity of her emotions were never at his level. the pain she suffers she could just imitate off of what she believes she should feel but not actually feel the full effect from inside, because her emotions have been so conditioned to it.
Well jacob Minkoff is now making cod mw and he has no beard to think he and Taylor kurusaki left to iw in 2014 and made cod iw story and brought many other naughty dog 6 or 7 ppl from nd to work on cod mw
This piece of DLC convinced me that Ellie knew Joel was lying at the end; she doesn't care because at the end of the day she needs him just as much as he needs her.
They need each other but I think Ellie believed her purpose for living was being a cure for mankind, when she lost that she felt empty and probably hurt knowing it was Joel that took that away from her.
The only weird thing about playing the DLC was shaking off the habit to forage for supplies during the Ellie/Riley moments. I'm running through a costume shop to see if I can make a health kit, for crying out loud! You only get two or three hours, but Yanni King's Riley was instantly believable. Similar to how you bond with Ellie through playing as Joel, you feel connected to Riley too. You know there was SOMETHING between Riley and Ellie that was damaged, and I felt my heart swell as they had their little moment in the photo booth, but it's not until near the end that you see JUST HOW DEEP their bond is. I felt like I got my money's worth.
AND cringing every time they made loud noises thinking that infected/runners/stalkers/clickers would chase them down (especially the brick throwing scene and the turning on the mall's electricity scene).
Shunan Xu Actually Naughty Dog themselves said that Joel's story is done. They are planning to use a new cast of characters in the sequel and tell a different story. So no more Joel :(
luckycharmsforlife uhm...what sequel would that be? There is no sequel currently in the making. NaughtyDog site says there will also be no more further dlc for the last of us. (I think they're tired of it).
I love the idea of any more last of us content for me to play! at the same time i don't just view the game as a miens of entertainment. it is a magnificent piece of story telling and i think a lot of it's power comes from everything that you don't see. Even with the DLC i think the gap they left from the ending credit to the beginning of the normal single player is a work of genius. we all know what happened but we all also have our own emotion creative interpretation of what it was like.
Nr1from1978 Yeah they said ahead of time that there is only going to be one story dlc for the last of us (I think its because the development is too time consuming). Also here is a recent article of the Niel saying that they are currently "brainstorming" for the possible sequel. www.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/2014/03/13/the-last-of-us-movie-direct-adaptaiton-of-game-naughty-dog-brainstorming-the-last-of-us-2/.
They should make a DLC about the people who left notes behind...like the ones from the sewers "Ish" and his mates that struggled to survive...I don't know that could be amazing!
+hundreddollarbiller I agree with you so much, that would be cool. But we'll see what they'll fo with it. They might not call that DLC Left Behind & might not be call The loss Legacy. And I'm sooooo happy they've announced The Last of Us Part II!!! Can't wait!!!!!
For those of you saying that Ellie isn't gay...ummm yeah she is. They even said so themselves. It was kind of obvious if you looked at their interactions. No need to get all hyped up about it. A good story is a good story
Yup, people who say "Ellie was just giving riley a little friendship kiss" need to do research, Neil said Ellie is gay, and like Kya D'nae just said, it's really obvious by the way they interact with each other.
Joel needs his own much deserved DLC. What his brother and him went through and ultimately separated. As well as how he got together with Tess. Get to see the less filter and brutal Joel that didnt have some one to think about or had emotional connections to anyone yet (his life after his daughter's death and before Elllie).
This was a very good DLC. I only wish Naughty Dog would have done more. Joel's story after the death of his daughter is something a lot of people want to see because Joel is very vulnerable, young and inexperienced against the infected. How long did it take before he split up with Tommy? Where does Maria fit in all this? And Bill? When did he meet Tess? Were there any other people that he met, who potentially left or died? There's a lot that could be done here. I also think that a DLC about Ish's story could work well. If I recall correctly, he came stranded with a boat. Why did he end up like that with his boat? What exactly happened to him in the end and his crew? Did they all die or did some escape and leave? Definitely wish they did these two DLC stories, but I can understand the fatigue they have with the game after 4 years.
It was all explained in the letters. He came in a boat and was stranded because of some reason but him, the mom and kids all died in the sewers because infected got let inside.
Mark Muszyński -He left in a one-man boat because of the infection -The Mother he brought was married to Kyle (fam 1) -Brought another lady & her kids -He, Fam1 Mother, and other kids escaped -Kyle, Fam1 kids, and other lady died

Well, in my opinion the best game of all time is The Last of Us, and I think it is the only game that stands a chance to be called the best game of all time.
Y'know the entire time I played as Ellie during her times with Riley, I still looked around for supplies and shit. Didn't find ANYTHING, but this game just makes me think this way everytime I play it.
People that are saying the DLC was to short are really confusing me, it was what 2 hour DLC minimum if you played it properly and explored everything and all the themes. They've had roughly 6 months to work on the DLC and managed to create that. They had 3 years for the main game... Of course its not going to live up to it. But being a hardcore fan like myself you really appreciate all the little links and filling in blanks from the main story, comics and getting a back story. What happened to Ellie's favourite T-shirt, How did Joel survive so long, How did Ellie get infected, Where did Ellie get the bow at the start of the winter section and loads more were answered in this DLC. I know I am a hardcore fanboy of this game, but it really does deserve credit for the effort and how engaging it is. Everyone can have there opinion, Im just expressing mine.

Make a dlc on how Joel and his brother struggled after the infection because Joel's brother in the real campaign mentions times that gave him nightmares. How Joel was after the death of her daughter and all that.
I really hope one day, we get the story from the days Joel and Tommy were trying to cope after when Sarah died to who Joel is at the start with Tess. That story could be a huge game. Hopefully we see one day.
Man...I just finished it. I can only hope for more tlou. And I know many of you agree. But it seems it takes al hell of a lot of effort from a hell of a lot of people to make something like this. It also seems Bruce wants to take a break from it. Lets's just pray they'll come around.
Look at Neil Druckmann here - opened, full of energy, young. Look at him at PSX 2016: old, faltering and avoiding eye contact. He is burned out alright.
Hello PlayStation I recently did a (GMV) Game Music video with your world famous (The last of Us) that was a special game for me, to my question you know one (Rico Management) that has a request to disable my video made when I use copyright video scenes I'm sorry I never wanted to make money with it I just wanted to connect this awesome game with a beautiful Music
Large enough DLC, I mean that it entirely hepls to understand Ellie's will to survive and the way she takes so much care of the people she is close to.
I remember how excited i was to see more from the last of us, and at the moment this was released i went to buy a psn card at blockbuster, back home just dreaming what was going to be like
The Last of Us was the greatest game I have ever played, a unparalleled fusion of game play, story and cinematic brilliance that truly was a tremendous experience to behold. The DLC was the best I've played as well with it's clever addition to game play mechanics and emotional storytelling done in parallel fashion. I would love to continuously revisit this world but if anything these games have me extremely excited for the potential of naughty dog games in the future. With games like these the gaming medium proves that it stands above all in it's ability to make it's audience feel involved and emotionally invested and Naughty Dog is the unrivaled king of gaming!
I replayed this DLC with a friend (who hadn't played it beforehand) yesterday, and once again was reminded why this arc is the most beautiful, bittersweet and heartbreaking one in games ever. It's almost too sad to handle :/
Beautiful story of how the two best friends become closer than ever and then, abruptly torn apart. I'm not one to become emotional in a video game story line, but after becoming close to the characters of Joel and Ellie, playing the dlc made me feel as though Riley was my best friend and had just lost her.
I love this game the last of us Uncharted 1 2 3 and 4 there are just awsome games but the last of us is my favorite game it is sad and funny I love it good work

Marlene gave it to her; it was something Ellie's mom left for her. If you haven't by now, you should really read the comics, they're pretty good.
Marlene gave it to her along with a note from her mother. The switchblade was originally her mother's as well.
Miss you joe...
There's a comic when and where can I get one??????
Make a dlc on how Joel and his brother struggled after the infection because Joel's brother in the real campaign mentions times that gave him nightmares. How Joel was after the death of her daughter and all that.
Just played and finished it. Thank you
I really hope one day, we get the story from the days Joel and Tommy were trying to cope after when Sarah died to who Joel is at the start with Tess. That story could be a huge game. Hopefully we see one day.
left behind was abit short but makes sense and to me they should include what happened to joel after his daughter died
Lifegoal: work together with Naughtydog at The Last of Us: Part III
Man...I just finished it. I can only hope for more tlou. And I know many of you agree. But it seems it takes al hell of a lot of effort from a hell of a lot of people to make something like this. It also seems Bruce wants to take a break from it. Lets's just pray they'll come around.
8:48 I thought Ellie started talking :)
well.. she is Ellie :)
DaxterMaster2 I know, but i thought she was talking as a part of the game :)
She IS Ellie
recommend 6 years later wow
Look at Neil Druckmann here - opened, full of energy, young. Look at him at PSX 2016: old, faltering and avoiding eye contact. He is burned out alright.
Damien Scott so much pressure and stress probably
Istarded. Playing games 1977. The lastof us has 2bee. Most. Buetiful game. Ever. Played and so. The. Story good1. Nuathy dog
Ellie is the greatest character in the history of gaming. My sympathy to anyone who disagrees
0:55 Hey Vsauce, Michael here
Large enough DLC, I mean that it entirely hepls to understand Ellie's will to survive and the way she takes so much care of the people she is close to.
I remember how excited i was to see more from the last of us, and at the moment this was released i went to buy a psn card at blockbuster, back home just dreaming what was going to be like
This is the story of videogames. This is fantastic. This is epic.
What are the beard qualifications to work at Naughtydog?
Dinosaur!
Please don't put Ellie to rest, Naughty Dog.
I know, it'll be pretty hard to top this.
But please try.
Thank you.
Had a semi-semi-cry momment just from watching this. Actually cried in Left Behind, which is a rare thing.
0:55 Hey! Michael here
The Last Of Us 2, please!
Bruno I know I’m late on this but you’re wish is granted 🤗🌈👏
Bill Cipher it sure is i know I’m late
What a great team of continuing their emotional evocation to make part 2. Appreciate it.
I replayed this DLC with a friend (who hadn't played it beforehand) yesterday, and once again was reminded why this arc is the most beautiful, bittersweet and heartbreaking one in games ever. It's almost too sad to handle :/
Thank you for creating the GREATEST story game for PS3
Beautiful story of how the two best friends become closer than ever and then, abruptly torn apart. I'm not one to become emotional in a video game story line, but after becoming close to the characters of Joel and Ellie, playing the dlc made me feel as though Riley was my best friend and had just lost her.
Briliant Game. She gift many real Emotions. Amazing project !
I love this game the last of us Uncharted 1 2 3 and 4 there are just awsome games but the last of us is my favorite game it is sad and funny I love it good work
Wow! I can't wait for the movie!!
Wasn't easy to solve the last section of the DLC on survivor difficulty without getting seen for my walkthrough...
I miss Riley
We've made a TV Series Edition of Left Behind. Come see it and see if you like it :)
