Enjoyed your video of our national zoo again! Not all restaurants provide napkins, no - and much less so for foodcourts and hawker centres. So yes, many of us bring small packs of tissues in our bags. But Singaporeans typically also use forks/spoons to pry loose the shrimp meat. Takes a bit of practice though!

    • @TalesFromOurPocket

I think what you had for dinner is called Hor Fun, which is rice noodles (kway tiao) cooked together with many ingredients. Don't think we call it Chow Fu here in Singapore 😀 This is a common dish found in many of our heartland foodstalls (we call them Zi Char stalls) where dishes are cooked on the spot and you will have that lovely woke hei smell and taste 😋

I think there are 2 species of otters in the zoo, the ones you captured should be the Asian Small Claw Otters which exist in the wild in Singapore technically but I think only at an island Pulau Ubin (accessible by Ferry and you can rent bicycle there for a ride) but very elusive though. It is the same species of otters that was in the Night Safari show. The other one is the Giant Otters of the Amazon which is actually that giant statue you saw at the start of the video. Hope you get to see all the animals in the zoo. The main species of Urban Wild Otters are the Smooth Coated Otters... they all over Singapore but most people goes to Marina Bay area to look for them. Nice video!!

As a local, my advice for your viewers would be to get the park hopper, visit the Zoo first thing in the morning (you can bring your breakfast and seat near the Orang Utans enclosure to eat, while watching them go about their morning), spend a day there, at about 3pm head over to the River Wonder and wander till closing. Then do what you guys did with the Night Safari. But you definitely have to set a whole day out of your itinerary to fully enjoy the parks.

Makes me feel amazingly nostalgic and proud. I haven't been home to Singapore in a while. I think the main attraction of the zoo for me is that you often feel like a visitor in the animal's habitat, rather than them being on display for you.

    • @TalesFromOurPocket

It looked like a fennec fox. As a rule of thumb in nature large ears help with heat loss and small ears to retain heat. It can usually give you a good idea of the animals native habitat.

It depends! Have you/they seen pandas before and is that important? If so, I'd do the River Wonders. If they don't like water life, then the main zoo is a great choice with tons to do.
That said, the night zoo is totally unique - seeing the animals at night was amazing (and more natural, I think, because many of the animals are nocturnal) and I'd highly recommend that zoo if a night zoo works for your schedule. I think the kids would really enjoy seeing the animals at night.

No, most hawkers and food courts don't provide napkins. Some restaurants provide wet tissues with extra charges...which most Singaporeans will return so as not to pay for them. In this Asia region, we all bring along our own packs of tissues. Cafes would more likely provide napkins. Anyways, we all need tissues (1 piece from eateries is not enough) so most people will have them in the bag or pockets.

People will usually visit the zoo first in early morning to cover all grounds as it's too big and to beat the afternoon heat. You can generally finish River Wonders within 1 and half to 2 hours (if you skip the shows). And Night Safari is highly recommended to all tourist!! Do try to visit Night Safari next time when it's Halloween, it's one of the most popular event throughout the entire calendar year and usually there's a massive queue during pre-covid time.
And I'm one of them peeling the prawn shells without using my fingers hahaha!! It's always finger licking good! We don't give out napkins due to the fact people will actually abuse it and it's not really environmental friendly.
One tip to get cheap tissues, try to look out for the senior citizens or those who had disabilities selling tissues around the hawker centres/MRT stations. Most do sell $1 for 3 packets, hardly $2 but I won't say it doesn't exist. These seniors selling tissues are either retiree wanting to 'kill time' by earning some extras or really trying to make ends meet. Despite us having such a high GDP and having a government taking care of citizens, they do exist, hard fact.
Looking forward to your next video!

Night Safari has a Halloween event?! That sounds amazing!! We bought tissues from a lady at Satay Street and we definitely paid a tourist price. It was the price of desperation, too - because we really needed the napkins. 😂😂😂

Actually, for the boat ride in River Wonders, if you paid close attention to the sign as you are exiting, it says that you can ride again for free.
When my family was exiting from the boat ride, I happened to casually glance to the ride and saw the sign. So I stopped and told my family and we rode again.
We went on Saturday during the weekends and there were quite a lot of people queueing for the ride when we went, so you guys weren't an exception.
A lot of people don't know about this or they don't care to ride again because they are on a schedule to go to a particular enclosure to see the animals' feeding or catch one of the shows.
But if anyone visiting SG sees this or is a local going to the River Wonders, just letting you guys know.

    • @TalesFromOurPocket
      @TalesFromOurPocket  2 роки тому

What?? You're telling me we didn't get the extra ride because of our youthful excitement? 😭😂 Thanks for letting everyone know!
