Closed Captions help with that a LOT when it comes to foreign music (most of the songs now days are translated)... The Japanese version goes along with the English pretty well, but the Japanese version is far more poetic.
It's interesting seeing the difference in implementation of the lyrics when it comes to directly translation vs adapting to keep flow. Either way sellars work!

For me japanese sounds...polite and friendly and kind of like a melodic song. So whenever I hear some japanese song it feels like a happy conversation or song. It feels more sad in japanese because of this. I cried a lot as I read the lyrics and understood what she sings. The happy tune turns into some really sad tune for me. I thought it wasa happy song full of joy but as soon as I understood the meaning of it all the happyness turned into understanding and sadness. Which makes this song for me beyond sad. Espacially I understand the meaning of this song more than I should. hope you can understand now why I feel the way abvout the japanese version the way I do.
