I wonder if this one is really coming from the devs tho. Some classes, especially the humans, have demonstrated huge impacts on their respective servers biomes, and I wouldn't be astonished if how they affect the biome and the meta is just triggering chain reactions that were programmed in from the beginning of the game, or at least the current expansion.

When are you going to cover the old meta? Like when we had armoured fish builds? I remember my Dunkleosteus main from way back when...ah the nostalgia.
Same here, I loved playing as my Dunkleosteus character and being able to crunch through just about anything alive for food and being the top predator in the oceans. It's too bad that armoured fish were axed in the Devonian mass extinction event.

He cant hope to be as fast. Is there evidence he straights up ignore new research? Im not too sure. I would hesitate as well to research that is not confirmed just yet. TeirZoo is not a in depth documented, he is more of an entry point for biology.

The SDU it would not matter what time period the video is set in. History generally refers to human society, and how it progressed throughout time. Biology is the study of lifeforms, ranging it topics from their anatomy to how they interact with each other. Biology would be the better term in this context.

I used to be a dinosaur main, but after the Cretaceous-Paleogene update, class upkeep and server freezes were too demanding to sustain my T-Rex build. Many of us players tried to keep it going but when the devs removed many of our favorite classes I was SOOO mad!

It's all right we just need to start a petition to reverse those anti dinosaur Nerfs with humans as part of the meta there's finally reasonable competition for some of what were previously OP builds I'm sure it would be better for the human players to they've got so little viable competition on most servers that they fight each other over skin color it's bloody ridiculous ;)
A lot of players with dinosaur builds firther enhanced their flight based skills and went for a full aerial build. Most of those who stayed in the game founded a new guild called birds. They are still active even after the latest patches.
The Bird Guild is doing really well, actually. It might seem like the mammals guild is dominating, but there actually more bird players on most servers - they're just less organized and keep a lower profile.
I think hackers want to attempt to hack dinosaurs back in. They are already trying with mammoths, but they can't seem fo find the right code to copy

The game won't be cancelled unless something happens to the main power supply before the new servers are unlocked.

@Emperor Basil the Bulgar Slayer Actually some of the hackers found the source code for the extinct builds buried deep within current builds. Also, these hackers don't wanna bring back the old builds because it may upset the meta which could be dangerous for the game.

It's not funny. So much of the player base quit that the game nearly ended. Had it been worse, the Meta could of had to start over with only microbial guilds sirviving.
Emperor Leroy yeah that would of been horrible. It took so incredibly long to get the maximum evolution points (for the pre release versions) before the devs were forced to create the Edicarian Expansion which caused the games explosion in popularity leading to the Cambrian Update to compensate for all of the new players at the time.

Seriously though, I am so sick and tired of the devs pandering to the playerbase using the most popular builds! I get that they feel a bit burned from the reaction of the great dying but at some point true fans of the game hope for a bit of artistic integrity. I mean, it always ends badly too. Eventualy even the dinos were removed by several balanced patches and only the flying mains managed to find a new niche.
Im afraid that by now the devs just realise that even if we all quit en masse whenever a new extintion patch is brought out, we eventualy come back anyway with new builds. So they just pander to the cash cows that are the meta builds, until it seems all other classes are leaving the game. then as soon as the diversity is almost gone, boom, another exinction...
I bet that the human main is next up on the chopping block, and with it all cattle., cat and dog mains will see a mass exodus as well. bah. I mean look at what the devs have been doing. Humans are objectivity the smartest build that has ever existed, but to 'balance' it out the devs gave humies the trait of selective stupidity and refuses to gives us access to the long-term-thiniking trait...
I swear this is just a sneaky way for them to eventualy have human mains kill themsleves and most of the current playerbase due to habbitat destruction while being able to pretend they had nothing to do with it. mark my words, them calling the current patch the 'human patch' is just a another smokescreen, soon they'll be nerfed to shit and the devs will pretend tehy hadn't been planning it and it was just emergent gameplay. good thing this shitty game is free I swear.

Actually, the idea that aliens have had any involvement with Earth is restricted to the fringes of society; it's really not a very popular notion, mostly because there's no evidence for it whatsoever.

I love how much of your footage is taken from the "walking with" series bbc did in the UK. I need to rewatch those
Something interesting that you failed to mention was a seemingly minor but nonetheless impactful decision that separated the therapsids and thus the mammals from other reptile guilds was the decision to keep their hammer and anvil separate bones, giving them a boost to their hearing. The other reptile factions decided that the small boost the decision gave was not worth even the meager cost in evolution points it carried. But by now it has proven that most advanced hearing-based abilities require two-boned ears, leading to nearly all the builds with the best hearing perception belonging to the Mammal guild.
I used to main the ant, but then in the mammals update, the anteater was added and was the hardest counter to the ant

Yeah ants are a cool build. Nice for players with low points. Just spend them on weight lifting and some other abilities and there ya go. I am a human build because I spent $1000 on the game to unlock s-tiers and then human builds, and I have friended some ant players. I feed them and, um, I guess they let me watch them?
They're still a great build. That's why servers are filled with them. IMO, if you throw some points in the venom skill tree, ants become OP.
So I guess we can say that the Great Dying was a hotfix

I wish some company would actually make a game out of earth's history. It would start when everything was primordial soup, just lil bacteria looking bros, then it would play out like the game Spore. Maybe every six months or so the game would update with the world's changes until present day, or it changes every couple days that the player is playing. Different servers for different areas, and guilds for species. Oh amd maybe you can only play online with others when you get to your present-day species. You get to mutate your bacteria bro however you want and eventually become an eagle, cheetah, beetle, frog, whatever. I think that would be so fun! Game over when your species goes extinct but you could start over as whatever you want.

there're no old copies of the game, so we've had to use mods to somewhat recreate the older versions of the game, and even then mistakes and errors are made, hence why the aesthetics and appearances of dinosaurs seem to get updated every few years. we get more info that changes how we portray them.

I remember the Great Dying all too well. I'd built up being a giant amphibian before upgrading to the reptiles which got me Dimetrodon and later, the Gorgonopsids which made me happy. Then the Great Dying event occurred and my beloved Gorgonopsid character perished. Since the only Theraspids left were the puny Lystrosaurs and its kin, I got angry and quit the Theraspid faction and defected to the Archosaur faction.
I was quite angry at the developers for having The Great Dying event occur. What right did they have to take away my Gorgonopsid character from me?!

I think the 2021 balance patch could be great. With the experimental balance patch of 2020, they show the devs are not afraid to make even the most dominate builds deplete. I think with the 2021 balance patch the meta game will change indefinitely.

When reading this and you said the nostalgia you feel I immediately thought that you were referring to your personal time with the dinosaurs... you aren't allowed to talk about that time
It's a shame the games wiki was so poorly maintained until recently and they mostly only kept record of the record breaking mega fauna. I feel like the really interesting game play happens in the small spaces with insects and fish, and I'll probably never know what strats they where trying back then.

I belive this is why tardigrades exist, some players realized that either bad patches or changes could lead to a lot of lost characters so they set up backup charracters wich are immune to all unusual things wich could help get the player capacity back up in such an event

The bad thing about this game is the lack of free content. If you want to continue play and remain conpetitive you have to pay (at least in my class -human). Can I switch class? I have read in the forums that the game is F2P for the other classes, but more grinding and maybe skill. Humans can pay for skill. Developers must make the market to sell only cosmetics (shoes-clothes etc) and no P2W (guns-knives) or food for less grinding. Greedy developers...

This video talks almost exclusively about how the Great Dying patch effected the terrestrial meta, but it's important to remember that the aquatic meta in the Permian revolved entirely around large fish builds, and the devs wanted to make way for the skill trees that would allow reptile players access to aquatic servers, which were rolled out during the Triassic expansion. Although the Great Dying nerfed a lot of terrestrial builds, the biggest nerfs were all on the ocean servers. Several classes and builds were removed entirely, such as trilobites and sea scorpions, and the big fish builds were nerfed enough to allow the new Nothosaur and Ichthyosaur classes to be relevant upon release, to great success, and there was no one class or faction that ruled the aquatic meta during the Triassic, Jurassic, or Cretaceous the way that fish had before then or dinosaurs did on terrestrial servers at the same time.
Basically, not everything is about terrestrial servers, patches 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 brought much-needed balance to the aquatic metagame, and the devs deserve more credit for this than you're giving them.
