Ben: I don't understand why people travel with babies, they won't get anything out of it
Also Ben: I wish we could bring menchie and zyler to a Taylor swift concert
most people at concerts: WOOO BABY FUCKYEA!
cris: im doing observational analysis of my environment
I do the same thing 😂
And Cristine being a reputation girl is GOLD I love it
Ben's wristband still flashing seems quite sweet
I really got into Folklore during the pandemic lockdown phase. I am probably three or four times older than most Taylor Swift fans. Terrific writing.
Regarding 30:00 I feel like that level of reflection and introspection just comes with growing up. You have to remember that her first 3 albums were written when she was in high school or had just graduated. Even by the time she released 1989 she was just 24 but already one of the biggest pop stars in the world. I’m that age now and if I had to release music that would be dissected my millions of fans I wouldn’t want to share my deepest most introspective takes but would release fun pop songs.
I agree and it’s just natural that her music got more mature as she did too. But she still had amazing writing though, like”All Too Well” “The Last Time” “Dear John” and more are not just fun pop songs lol. And even “Back to December” shows that she wasn’t just like “all relationships suck because of bad men” even at 19.
getaway car and maroon (prolly one of her best songs imo) were both incredible surprise songs!
THEY REALLY WON!!
Not Ben acting like False God is a peasant surprise song when it literally shattered my heart watching from home 😭😭
Ben, have you seen the NPR tiny desk video of her singing? It’s literally her singing with a guitar and a piano
And the Lover Live in Paris concert!
I love Tiny desk concerts. The ones they did of Broadway shows are my favorite.
@@valap_ I love the broadway shows too!! Especially Hadestown
@@mischapotter Six was my favorite. The woman who was Seymour was amazing.
There is also definitely a ton of extremely talented singers who aren't as famous as taylor and who have smaller and more intimite concerts.
im sorry but cristine ✨knows ✨her ✨audience ✨ bc i have grown up with her im literally 20. i was watching her 7-6 years ago on simplynailogical
I'm 21 and same, I've been watching her since like 2015
I have been watching her since sometime around polish mountain, and I’m 31 now. So I wouldn’t say I grew up watching cris, but I definitely watched her during what I think are some of the most formative years for people when becoming an adult! She’s had a huge influence on me
Literally same. I’m twenty, started watching her when I was thirteen bahaha
same hahaha
Same, I just turned 20 and I started watching Cristine when I was 12 or 13.
When I was in Italy, I visited a ruin site with an outdoor amphitheater left pretty in-tact. My choir teacher sang from the stage and even though we were outdoors in an open space, the amphitheater bounced his voice in a beautiful, haunting way. Outdoor buildings CAN be built to project music, but they are not as much of a norm any more as most large spaces are designed for many different kinds of entertainment.
Good amphitheater acoustics also projects speech and instruments just as easily . But the availability of electric sound systems has made venue builders lazy . Still, I think good performance schools still teach how to fill a room with your voice, so you can give a rousing speech while the power is out .
I really appreciate how much taylor makes her show an actual show and performance. I feel like less and less artists are doing that anymore and it truly shows her talent.
I think that everything you guys described when it comes to her concerts and her music is precisely why I love Taylor. The difference in her albums, the growth she has had and even how interesting it is that 32 yr old taylor is singing songs that 15-year-old taylor wrote but still loving them and paying them homage and like, she's not embarrassed by any of her albums and how she thought, she has allowed herself to grow with music. And when it comes to her concerts, we must understand that taylor AT HER CORE is a theatre kid, she cares about putting on a good performance a big one at that, especially now that her concerts are way bigger.
Taylor has said a few times she doesn't feel like a person sometimes. It's like her fame makes her feel too big for this world (another reason she's all big in the Anti-Hero music video). And like she would be on Tumblr in the earlier years looking at other girls living a normal life and wish that were her sometimes. She's just been through so much for so long, I can't imagine that level of fame
sometimes i feel like everybody is a sexy baby, and i'm a monster on the hill
I grew up listening to Taylor swift. Literally I was 6 and now I’m 22. I was one of those people losing their minds at the show. Just hearing some of the songs I grew up with live was insane. I cried through the entire fearless bit. I saw your footage from the floor and it looked tame compared to the nosebleeds. I had nosebleeds I just couldn’t afford anything better which I’m still kinda upset about. I paid the same for nosebleed as I did for row 15 floor for loverfest (that never happened of course). The nosebleeds everyone is scream singing and I think more of the real fans ended up at the top. I have the most embarrassing footage that my mom took of me and my sister screaming to death by a thousand cuts which was our surprise song. So Glad you guys had fun at the eras tour and I’m so jealous of your surprise song :D
On the topic of Taylor having a false sense of modesty, I think it made sense for her Reputation tour. She literally disappeared for years, thinking everyone hated her guts. So to come back and see tens of thousands of people show up night after night, I can see why She would be like “holy shit, you guys love me????” But this tour??? The tour that sold out in minutes and got Congress to question monopolies? That kind of surprise doesn’t fit in.
Her show was INCREDIBLE. Best concert I’ve ever been to! There’s so many details…everything is amazing
I loved concert earplugs too. I could have a conversation without shouting and hear the music better.
which brand do you recommend, i have no idea which to gett
@@franfranfran Sensaphonics! been using them for years and love them.
@@itsahofosho thank you so much!:)
I could have a whole conversation about earplugs on concerts! I have tried several different. I liked my ER-20 pro, they were just turning down the level of notice without cutting of the treble as some do, or the bass as others do. But I couldn't wear them for a whole concert because they would start to rub on the skin in the ear. So when they broke, I bought V-moda Fadersand they were life changing! They are better than the ER-20 pro and so comfortable, they look like in ear headphones. And nowadays I have for one of my ears a custom made earplug, but for that one I have a too sound excluding filter for it to be nice to use it on a concert. And the customer made is so expensive that I'm scared to loose it.
@@annabackman5204 thank youuu!
As a fanatical fan who would have a religious experience at a Taylor concert, I'm so happy you guys got to go and had fun! I love seeing people enjoy her music.
I would have freaked out if I saw ben and Cristine at the concert more than the celebrities 😂❤ also totally jealous you got floor seats. Sounds like you had fun 🥳
Same 😂 I think if I ever actually saw a celebrity out somewhere in public I’d be way to nervous/shy/scared to bother/annoy them that I wouldn’t even say anything lol
I grew up listening to country music, and I can, no lie, remember the first time I heard "Tim McGraw" on the radio. (It was a neat full-circle moment when that was one of her surprise songs at the Eras concert I attended.) Taylor fascinates me. Her vocals, as well as her growth and maturity as an artist, have certainly evolved with time, yet she's still able to do justice to the songs she wrote when she was a teenager. It's been a lot of fun following her throughout the years. (Admittedly, I did slack off during her "Lover," "folklore," and "evermore" albums, so Eras was exactly what I needed to revive my admiration for her.) I don't care what anyone says. Give Taylor all the accolades; she deserves them.
4:30 one of taylor's cats is named after olivia benson haha that's probably why they screamed it so loud
I went to her Vegas show superrrr last minute because my friends friend counldnt make it. I wasn't the biggest Taylor friend (at least compared to my friend, who grew up with her and knows each and every lyric) but after the concert I fell in love! She was so fun and interacted with the audience as much as she could. The music was fun and I loved how different all of the different Era sections felt. I'm a dancer too so I personally loveeed the choreography and theatrical ascpect of the show. And it was just nice to see all the people around me in tears over their favorite artist idk something about it made me feel very happy! Amazing concert!
Time magazine posted a really interesting article about post-concert amnesia, specifically referencing this one, that is so interesting you should check it out. The psychological stuff is crazy. I’m also so curious about this effects Taylor physically and psychologically. Like 3+ hour shows 3x a week while traveling, singing and moving the whole time and exhausting herself while 70k people idolize her. It’s crazy!
As it's says in this atricle, it's a emotion related thing. Like people don't remember their wedding day/party, birth of the child. I myself don't remember what my fiance said when he was proposing, so it's very real thing. Recording and making photos is a great way to remember these events.
@@katarzynan3724 yes I know I read the article 😊
I don't care about Taylor or her music but Bens passion for it makes me happy
Yesss me too. I love listening to him talk about stuff. Wish i was as articulate as him, tbh
@@lemonCutie37 being articulate comes with practice! You got this :)🤙
That was exactly what i was going to say ! 💜 Im a Bts fan and can relate with the happy feeling
I understand Ben’s comment about the “rich people thing to do right now.” I agree with his assessment as I made the same observation. The fans in attendance at the Eras Tour Concert that I saw were truly fans of Taylor and her music. They took time to learn lyrics and educate themselves on the stories behind the writing. People put a lot of thought into their outfits and the eras they represented. There was a sense of community within the those who attended. We sang along together, we danced, tears were shed, bracelets exchanged. I didn’t know anyone around me by name, but we all were connected by our love and appreciation for the music. It was a special experience. By comparison I attended the Adele Concert in Las Vegas and those tickets on the resale market were astronomically expensive and not easily attainable financially (Ranging in the thousands of dollars per ticket as standard before the residency was extended). Luckily we had the benefit of verified fan presale. The people in attendance at Adele’s concert that we sat near many were the equivalent of the “men in suits” Ben is referring to, but also these women’s had on head to toe Chanel, didn’t know more than a couple of the major hits that Adele sings and were not as invested. Meanwhile I was crying, knew the words to all the songs, found the concert to be one of the best ones I have ever attended, etc. there were of course tried and true Adele fans there but there was also a lot of incredibly wealthy people with their $10,000 handbags, suits, dresses, jewelry and shoes, where it felt like this concert was the thing to do and show to watch that night. For me, that weekends with Adele experience made me love her even more and was a night to remember, but I felt alone in that I didn’t get the sense that the people around me felt that same level of connection and intensity.
I think Ben summarized my Taylor Swift Eras experience perfectly! Evermore, Lover and Reputation were my favorite Eras and I also sat down during Folklore 😂😅 Me and my friend went to the Vegas show!! Our stadium was closed and they put the roof up so she sounded fine from my section. We were middle 100’s so we could see the stage perfectly! Our surprise songs were ‘Our Song’ and ‘Snow on the Beach.’ Just a great concert experience overall! Glad you guys had fun!!
I can’t wait for her to release international dates. I saw her reputation tour and on the topic of sets she had a MASSIVE snake come out and rotate around the stage. She knows how to put on a performance!
I went to the MetLife night 1 concert too! I had a suspicion Ben and Cristine were going to be at one of the Jersey concerts so I was thinking about what I’d say if I saw them for days before (did not end up seeing them though). I used only holo taco polishes for my eras mani. I didn’t have the exact shades Cristine used on stream, but I made it work.
Taylor is the first artist to have like all 10 of her albums just charting at the same time on the billboard list and it’s on track to become the highest grossing tour of all time! She’s definitely the artist of the generation
She's also dating the worst person ever, and while she says she's not racist or homophobic, willingly dating one, makes her one too.
@@tanie3543okay..?
Folklore and Evermore were the first albums that I really loved by Taylor for the reasons that you talked about. They really seemed like a step up in maturity in themes and I really appreciated it.
I feel like I'm kinda similar Taylor Swift fan as Ben. I really love her music and I've listened it for about 10 years, I would even call her my current favorite artist, but I'm not as fanatic about her as some others may be and I hesitate to call myself a Swiftie. But if she ever come to my country (or even the neighboring), I would try to get tickets in a heartbeat.
Did I some through some of her songs while in my break up era? Yes, yes I did. But I’m not about to go to jail for her like that one girl
At work everyone knows that I love Taylor Swift and her music, but still is not an obsession. I don’t have any merchandise other than her vinyls cause I have a collection. I always find myself trying to explain that only because I listen to her music everyday doesn’t mean that I’m obsessed. Also she has so many albums with different aesthetics and genres. It’s like almost listening to different people. I have a coworker who’s OBSESSED with Harry Potter. Her whole house if full of Harry Potter stuff and she knows all the names and details that not even JK Rowling knows. And yet she makes everyone think that I’m the weird one just because I want to buy a ticket for her concert when I’ve never been to one, mainly because she hasn’t come to Italy in a long time.
When I go to a concert, the most important thing to me is the music and the setlist. As far as visually, I actually really enjoy watching big choreography with dancers and a creative stage set up. However, I also think its great when an artist has a section in their show when they slow it down and showcase more of their raw talent whether it's vocally or instrumentally.
After Ben’s yesterday’s dissection of the concert, here to see what Cristine has to say.
Christine’s hair looks so glossy and nice
I went to night 3 at Gillette Stadium the week before she went to MetLife! I was seated just a few rows behind where y'all were and had the time of my life (with my eras nails done all in Holo Taco, of course). I think part of what makes Taylor's music so special is that it's always had such strong storytelling and honesty. Songs from earlier albums are not only nostalgic, but can be related to 15 years down the line just as much as her newer songs. I'm so happy y'all got to experience such an amazing show, and I loved your thoughts on the other elements of the show like the set, Cristine!
I️ think it's funny at 20:00 when Ben is talking about Taylor Swift being in a fishbowl. There's a lot of imagery, specifically in the Lover music video where she alludes to her life feeling like a fishbowl. There's also past journal entries that she shared in booklets sold with lover where she talks about feeling like a tiger at a zoo. She also talks about it in Miss Americana when the people are standing outside her apartment in NYC. You're spot on as to show she may feel.
Ben being an evermore fan makes me so happy 😊
I hope you guys are sending Taylor some polish! she loved to paint her own nails too.
The 👏🏼collaboration 👏🏼we 👏🏼need👏🏼
ben brought up ‘music that’s too depressing’ and i started singing mitski before he even brought her up lmao. i LOVE mitski but i haven’t listened to her music in way over a year because as much as i love her music, i can only listen to it when i’m at rock bottom. so yeah i agree that not everyone can listen to music like that all the time. i wish i could listen to mitski more.
I actually do appreciate the performance quality Taylor brings to the table for her shows and although I’m not the biggest fan (I’m very choosy with her music) I would have liked to see her live just for the performance. On a side note I was actually working every night of her NJ shows (in a NYC restaurant) and I would leave every night around the time the shows were letting out and people were coming back to the city 😂
I went to Gillette night 1 and it was genuinely the best event I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience. Taylor is such a talented person, I love her and everything she does for her fans ❤
as a die hard swiftie, I agree with your perception that she excels as a songwriter rather than a vocalist. but I also think she has a great voice for country and low key want her to go back to her roots!
as a die hard swiftie who had a religious experience at my show, casual swifties like ben are awesome and we love u
So happy for y’all but also jealous. Mostly happy cause I didn’t realize y’all were swifties
It is so nice to see you all today!! Concerts are such a cool experience even if you’re not the biggest fan of the artist. I feel like I always leave with more appreciation for the artist than I started with
Im jealous of the surprise songs they got as I wanted her to play getaway car, and maroon, and they did win in NJ
When Ben started singing Suzanne, I SCREAMED. Omg I LOVE Leonard Cohen, his lyrics are just on another level!
I loved watching this while making my friendship bracelets for my concert date this upcoming Saturday. It was also super cool to see your snaps from the show as you were sitting basically exactly where our seats will be!
I saw Taylor during the 1989 era and would give my soul to see it during this era
she just announced dates for her shows here in Brazil! I'm so exited! I hope I'm able to get tickets!!
ooh you're probably gonna get sabrina carpenter in the mix then? i wish i could see them both
"there was no catering it was just a ... floor, and screaming" top notch delivery.
being in the concert industry it's fascinating to hear about shows this big from this perspective.
The concert was so good!!! I loved hearing ur POVs!
I wanted Getaway Car so bad 😭😭😭 I hope she sings songs that are just as good when I see her on the 17th!!
I also go into analysis mode at large social gatherings, and the only times I've been moved to tears at concerts are watching other people's reactions to the music and the artist.
I went to Justin Beiber once and was in the bathroom when he came out & I started crying because of the reaction of the fans because it was so intense
All I can think of in regards to Taylor Swift recently is the rumors of involvement (romantic or not) with Matthew Healy...he admitted to pleasuring himself to the brutalization of black women... He's said problematic statements aligning with almost all -isms and -ists. Not to even mention he's made degrading comments about Taylor herself... She's been through enough in her life and he is NOTHING but bad news. Like he made comments about Ice Spice and then Ice Spice is featured in Taylor's song???????... something REALLY isn't sitting right for me
I was hoping for Ben to say something about it
You can't criticize people for their relationships but it definitely says a lot about someone's character by the people they associate with...
@@xxzcfdxc I disagree, respectfully. When someone has chosen to create relationships with certain kinds of people they absolutely deserve criticism for it.
I'm not a TS fan (mostly kind of neutral towards her) but it's really surprising to see her choosing THIS kind of guy. Everyone deserves better than that piece of trash. Also disappointed that it wasn't really brought up or addressed, but if the point of the podcast was just the concert then I guess I get it.

Glad I’m not the only one who over analyzes the dynamics and back stage stuff behind concerts. I think it’s also so cool that everything is so planned out! I went to a music festival the other weekend and I was amazed at the crews who would break down stages in like 15 min!! It was so cool to me. I was just waiting for the next band, wondering how many cords and microphones they have in the back. I also got a glimpse of like 10 different sets of drums in the back that they alternate out.
I went to the show in Nashville (Night 3). We were in the upper level and I can confirm that everyone around us new every lyric too. Such a memorable night!
The Loops "Experience" were perfect for me as well. So glad I brought those. No post show headache.
ben, an evermore stan TASTE
Loving the discussion about the concert but I can’t stop looking at Simplys hair in this it looks so good!
Taylor Swift is always a surprise lol, you never know what you’re gonna get & I love it
Omg the references in the intro haha
I had the night of my life at T Swift in Houston 🎉 Thank you for sharing your experience!
Sooooo exciting ❤ happy for Beyyn
I've been a TS fan since I was 8 (im now 21) and was able to go to the reputation tour and to the eras tour in NJ for night 2. I loved the show; the transition between dont blame me and look what you made me do was my fav part. I do wish I bought ear plugs tho 😅 my ears are still in pain
I'm so glad you guys did an episode on your experience. I've been curious if you'd cover it at all since I started seeing you wear your merch in videos. So glad ya'll were able to get tickets and attend!!!! I got to go twice and it was exactly what I imagine religion is for other people. It was amazing.
Dying laughing at Ben imitating The National's style of singing 😂 That just totally made my night
I saw Taylor in Vegas 💜💜💜 It was amazing!!!
I love that Ben seems to be wearing the watch(light thingy) from the concert❤
I was wondering what that was!
As someone that works backstage in smaller theater productions, I was definitrely 'one of the 5' that enjoyed Cristine's set talks.
I’m seeing Taylor this Friday in Chicago and absolutely cannot wait!! 😆 So fun to listen to your guys’ analysis!
I’m going Sunday!!
The my friend got tickets to the concert in Chicago in a few days & I’m so hyped 👀 this concert feels BIG
I love that I also went to the eras tour in Jersey and they posted this right after ♥️
I love how Ben is into Taylor Swift. I am into a kpop girl group TWICE and I feel just like this. I like listening their albums, which they have a lot of, and their self-written songs and buy their albums and collect them. I hope I'll get to attend their concert like this.
I was at the Friday show too and had the best time seeing her from ROW 2 ON THE FLOOR!!!! I can’t believe I got the ticket for face value directly from Ticketmaster.
I’m so glad you had a good time too Cristine and Ben!!! I wish I could have said hi to you!
Getaway Car and Maroon are TOP TIER!!! IM SO JEALOUS
I cant believe missed not only hearing getaway car and maroon, and the Karma MV but maybe seeing simply and Ben at the concert only by a day 😢
i remember being in school when speak now came out and talking about it with my best friend at the time, never would’ve expected as much growth and staying power as she exhibits now as an artist! i fell out of her music between 1989-lover, and only got back into it at folklore. i appreciate her songwriting maturing alongside her primary demographic the most, and it almost prepared me for what was to come; i listened to fifteen a couple years before 15, 22 a couple years before, etc. and it allowed me to mix nostalgia with the comfort of shared experience when relistening to those songs during those years. i agree with your thoughts on delving into personal life; it’s a tough distinction to make as a public figure, especially when she’s used her position for good (political statements, charity, and activism)-that boundary that fits between public and private can become worn away by our current media and parasocial relationships that develop and shape the new definition of “celebrity”, and when placed on a traditional celebrity it feels a bit distasteful and unhinged at times. people have always hated on heartthrobs getting significant others out of jealousy, but that conversation now shifts to “it’s your duty and obligation to choose a partner that fits the ideals and values of who we think deserves you” and that’s pretty wild
ben, boygenius is amazing! i'm seeing them live in idaho in august! i know their vancouver BC show is sold out! so i'd hurry to get tickets for the toronto or northeast dates. hope you listen to the boygenius EP and their brand new album! i'm sure you'd love a lot of it, plus the other two members (julien baker and lucy dacus) have plenty of amazing sad solo music too !
I'm going in August. Now I'm even more excited!
I got a few pair of loops for daily things but nice to hear someone say they're perfect for the Taylor concert
The fact you were a few sections over from me and I didn’t realize until the next morning still breaks my heart
I was lucky enough to get tickets to both of the shows in Santa Clara, one night on the floor & the other night in obstructed middle bowl seats (that I luckily only paid $49 for). I'm really looking forward to the shows! I've seen Taylor live a few other times & I know that the show is going to be great
i’m heartbroken that i won’t get to see her live, but i’m so happy to listen to you talking about how much you enjoyed it
Yes!! Thank you for promoting ear plugs! Concerts or places that are very loud (like bars) can really damage your hearing and people are so unaware of this. It's so easy to purchase reusable ear plugs and save your hearing in the long run.
I’m glad you guys had so much fun at the show! I wore Holo Taco to both of the shows I went to and the holo was holoing cause of the lights. Ben being an evermore stan is everything haha
omg i was there the same night as you guys!
Glad you both had a nice time.🧡
Ben! I literally have loved Law and Order, SVU specifically since I was 14 my mom used to call me a grandma for watching law and order all the time. And the show has been running nearly 25 years so I’m sure many people know about it.
OH MY GOSH AND YOU WENT TO FIRST NISGGT OF NJ!!!!!
The world didn’t deserve Dorothy ! What a beautiful soul! I’m sorry for your loss Drew! Your grandmother put smiles on so many people’s faces over the years.
I can’t believe you went to the BEST show! Fridays show got everything!!!!!!
I loved how she singled out sections to make them feel special. My seats were lower bowl but kind of behind the stage, so when she turned around to each corner to say Hi during Anti-Hero, it felt SO special. I know it wasn’t personal or anything, but after looking at her back from the stage the whole time, it was so nice to see her facing me for a second. It’s one of my favorite videos I have from the concert. (Vegas N2)
I went to the 2nd show in Philly and I am jealous of the surprise songs that y’all got! I am so grateful that I was able to get tickets and had the time of my life! I’m not into folky music so I had to hardcore binged folklore and evermore, but now I’m a fan of both albums. I would love if she did a rock album or something even in the pop punk world next, but as long as her songwriting is present, I’ll be there!
One thing I noticed at my Taylor concert (Nashville night 2) was that it was one of the most inclusive, kind, safe feeling events I’ve ever been to. Everyone was so nice to each other, hyping up each others’ outfits, taking cute videos and pics of each others’ friend groups etc. I’ve never felt so safe at a concert before. It made the concert even more magical✨💕
i go to her show on friday! i cannot wait!! i am a huge swiftie so i’m excited that i got tickets! they are behind the stage but i know the sound will be amazing! i also don’t mind tht it’s 3 hours, the more taylor the better ❤️❤️ i’m still jealous she played maroon at your show😭😭 love you guys🥰
Yes Ben! I love that you’re a evermore fan 🫶🏼
Yall had me in 10 seconds 😭 all those swiftie puns 👏
Hi MA resident and Swiftie here. Martha’s Vineyard is an island right near the elbow of cape cod. It’s a part of MA not RI. Not sure why it’s called Martha’s Vineyard but it is a popular place for affluent folks to stay during summer. But not just rich folks anyone can catch on of the ferries from places like New Bedford to visit the island.
Although Martha’s Vineyard is not in RI, Taylor Swift does have a home in RI (the place in her song The Last Great American Dynasty).
I WAS THERE THE SAME NIGHT!!!! can't believe I missed my opportunity to say hi to Ben The Swiftie 😩
