Steady-state conduction occurs when the temperature at all locations in a substance is constant with time. Thermal conductivity is an important property of matter. It accounts for the heat conducting ability of a substance and depends both on the particular substance involved and on the state of that substance.
Is there heat transfer in steady-state?
Steady-state heat transfer can be a conduction, convection, or radiation process. Irrespective of the mode of transfer, in a steady-state heat transfer, the heat flow rate remains constant at any point in time.
What is steady-state in temperature?
Under steady-state, the temperature at different parts of the solid remains constant and is independent of time. The ratio of the difference in temperature to the distance between two points in a heated body under a steady state is called the temperature gradient.
What is the difference between steady-state and unsteady state heat transfer?
Under Steady state conditions the temperature within the system does not change with time. Conversely, under unsteady state conditions the temperature within the system does vary with time. Unsteady state conditions are a precursor to steady state conditions.

Steady-state heat flow assumes that temperatures on both sides of a building envelope element (while different) are constant for a sufficient period of time that heat flow on both sides of the assembly is steady.
What is an example of steady state?
An example of steady state can be found a bathtub with the drain open and water being added. If water is leaving the tub at the same rate that water is being added, the state variable volume will be constant over time.
What is a steady state process?
A steady state flow process requires conditions at all points in an apparatus remain constant as time changes. There must be no accumulation of mass or energy over the time period of interest. The same mass flow rate will remain constant in the flow path through each element of the system.
