    Good review - My only objection was the comment on the car having multiple owners ... In many cases with fine cars this is a good thing as each owner drove or owned it it for awhile and each put their fair share of $$$ maintaining the car. This is not a bad thing in most cases and can be a very good thing.

    Good review. Maybe part 2 needed on mechanical side and common issues such as bore scoring on the 3.8s models and IMS bearing?

    • @Ioanides001
      @Ioanides001 2 роки тому +1

      IMS bearing is much less of a pb on 997. MY 2005 and later are completely safe from this issue.

    An informative easy to understand straight forward video that I very much enjoyed. I'm planning to buy a 2007 Gen 1 997 in a few weeks and will certainly be making a visit again to a car that I short listed for a proper look and feel. I agree with a previous comment that it might not been a negative point when a Porsche has multiple owners as I'm sure this would have contributed many £££ to keep the car well maintained.

    An informative video however you have missed the 2 major issues with the 997.1 I.e. bore scoring and to a lesser degree IMS failures. Perhaps discuss preventative practices to minimise scoring by proper engine warm up and cool down.
    Also include weak areas of 996 and 997 Porsches, i.e. corroded brake lines, rear exhaust clamps, corroded front rads/crossover pipes, failed bump stops etc.

    • @Ioanides001
      @Ioanides001 2 роки тому

      don;t make a mish mash of 996 and 997, they're not the same thing. IMS/RMS, corroded rads and brake pipes, rotten back boxes are 996; rotten assembly for crossover pipes are 997. MY2005 and later 997 do not have any issue with IMS. Different models, different issues but 997 is much more reliable.

    Definitely useful info here and an interesting stance on, in effect, appreciating what wear and tear ought to be there.
    I've never quite understood the "+2" rear seats in the 911 (and several other similar cars). Whilst possibly suited for children, I've been a passenger in the back of a 911 (one that was already old in 1995) and it was the most uncomfortable 30 miles that I've ever covered.
    I know it's blindingly obvious but I still find it surprising just how identical the inside of the 987s and 997s are.

    Hi, thanks for making this video. It really helped me when I was viewing my first 997. Out of interest would you complete avoid a car that has bubbling paintwork? Or base it on what an inspection says about it?

    • @EthanFromLondon
      @EthanFromLondon  Місяць тому

      Bubbling paintwork doesn’t just mean bad paint that can be fixed but it also means the car wasn’t looked after and it wasn’t kept in a dry place. So there will be plenty of other issues. It was in a household that couldn’t afford it basically so they would have cut corners

    You should start to saying that if you can effor then you should buy a Gen 2 vs a Gen 1, mechanically they are 2 different cars

    • @Westlec
      @Westlec 3 роки тому

      I have a gen1 and agree however price difference is around £10k and worst case it has bore score at some point that’ll be £10k for rebuild, it’s all about risk.

    Crazy that you mention rust so much and its ok to have rust.. I live in California and none of my modern porsches had rust as you described.

    • @EthanFromLondon
      @EthanFromLondon  3 роки тому

      It’s amazing that the tropical damp weather of California doesn’t rust the cars.

      @@EthanFromLondon very good video. Thank you. One thing on the 997 is that the bonnet is, I think, made out of aluminum so most likely won't rust. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    The consensus is that Porsche build the most reliable sports cars yet at the same time the forums and UA-cam are littered with people complaining about multiple niggles that cost a lot and recur or bigger problems that cost thousands to tens thousands to resolve. If Honda and Toyota can build cars that can drive for hundreds of thousands of miles faultlessly why can’t sports car makers do the same. One thinks, they deliberately fail to engineer these faults out because they know that rich middle age dudes will have no option but to pay out and are addicted. Do Honda and Toyota make better built sports cars?

    • @EthanFromLondon
      @EthanFromLondon  3 роки тому +1

      At the price and brand of Toyota and Honda people don’t care if they have rattles and issues. It’s a completely different client base. Honda and Toyota certainly don’t make any decent sports cars in my opinion. Actually the Japanese are too busy copying the styles of European cars and can’t design a single thing properly. Just saying what everyone thinks but doesn’t say.

    • @X2UKeith
      @X2UKeith Рік тому

      Also you have to understand the high level of performance of a Porsche engine. Versus a small four or six cylinder Japanese engine with very little stress on its components, minimal heat. You just can't talk about a Honda Accord and a Porsche 911 in the same breath. That's sad the 911s are extremely reliable.

    Sorry but really amateurish review. Low mileage but badly maintained is not good! These cars hate standing in a garage cause's all kinds of issues. No thin glass on normal Carrera. Only GT3 Eetc. And yes I have a 997 and Boxster and had 996 and various other Porsche!
