To me the X1000V sounds the best, followed by the X3000. The X3000 sounds very clear but it seems to cancel out too much background noise so it sounds a bit quiet. (Maybe I prefer a bit of background noise?) The GoPro sounds muffled, like it's underwater. Seems always be the case with GoPro, not great. The X1000V overall sounds like 'real life' Video quality wise, the GoPro looked the best with good colours but I don't know how accurate it is though? Which one did it look more real on that day? I do prefer the slightly wider angle of the X3000 and the video quality is very good still, some situations it looks better than the GoPro. The X1000V looks a bit cloudy, dunno if the lens was dirty or something. Stabilisation is good between the X3000 and GoPro, The X1000V looked loose so can't comment on that. But all this is just my opinion.
Great summary. I can see what you're saying about the X1000V. It was much clearer in certain parts of the videos. Pretty impressive considering its the oldest. On its own suction cup I think the footage for it would have looked more stable, but it still looks kinda grey and dull compared to the GoPro and newer Sony. Overall, the Sony X3000 seems like the best overall camera for the car given the fact it's mic quality is better.
Yeah I agree. Overall the X3000 is the best out of the 3. I can't believe how night and day the audio is between the GoPro and the Sony's. Even that much older sony AZ1 from a few years back has much better audio than the 7!!
Excellent video I have been looking for a review like this for a while now. Sony x3000 has been out for a while now as someone said in the comments but even now it still better then GoPro 7 and 8 in my opinion. I'm looking to buy Sony x3000 at the moment but pickings are slim online at the moment.
I got mine from Hong Kong. It was significantly cheaper than the UK. It's miles ahead when it comes to audio, bit the new GoPro 8 records great footage.
I have just agreed to buy an H7B to record a video specifically like this (me talking about the drive, spliced with Dashcam Footage) so this is intersting to soo (I was also looking at a Sony HDR-AZ1). It is a shame that the sound is so low from the H7B but I wonder if it might not be a fair test: The H7B has multiple mics to do the noise reduction, with the one used to detect the 'ambient' levels on the side of the case. It sounds like the cameras were bumping together on the mount, and I wonder if the H7B was turning down the volume as it was effectively getting clattered in the 'noise reduction' ear (the Sony mics are on the front). The reason I say this is that when you are stopped at a roundabout with the audio feed from the H7B it sounds better, then you pull away and it gets quiet again as the clicking starts...? I will see how it works out for me. Thanks for the video!
the x3000 has been around for a while now. I was thinking of getting one but i'm sure a replacement is imminent and i might therefore wait. Have you heard any thing on the model replacement?
I haven't seen any rumours about it from Sony. Their action camera releases has been erratic to say the least. They have released cameras such as the Sony RX0 (I and II) - www.sony.co.uk/electronics/RX0-series That's not technically an action camera, but it's kind of in the same ball park. I suspect the GoPro 8 series will be out in the next month or so, however every year they fail to improve their microphones.
seems like the gopro does the most stable video but worst audio. the test made the cams bash on each other which makes them all sound a bit rattly. think the 'bar' mount makes the end cameras shake more so they have to deal with more movement than the middle one. have you done other videos to see if that makes the sony's better with a more stable mount? I'll go check. thanks for the test the x1000 looks very shaky on that mount, is it really that bad compared to the others? so much more shake
The fdr x1000v sounds the best with a better timber to your voice, the fdr x3000 is making your voice sound thin, with the GoPro being the worst, with your voice sounding muffled.
ofc the gopro won't sound as good as the sony x3000, cause the gopro is waterproof, try putting the waterproof case on the x3000 and then compare the audio. 6:30 even i can tell the stabilization on the gopro is way superior than the x3000, no differenc huh?
The ability to use the GoPro underwater without a case is great, but it's not any excuse for such bad audio. Also, before GoPro went fully waterproof, their audio was still terrible. I'm not hating on either camera as I own both. 👍
Damn, Sony X1000V looks like crap with almost no stabilization, but sounds the best. For me, H7B wins this. Why? You won't be listening to Your divings, skiing, riding sounds, but You will be definitely watching Your vids, so img stabilization and overall quality is more importand that slightly worse sound quality.
i have x3000 too, but it's shaky despite all the claims. gopro is better. mic is not good because it's waterproof and sony is not. maybe making a hole where the mic is or connect some different mic would solve it.

Friends here's a fraud Sony cameras screws are definitely not compressed

Thanks for the video!
@Kevin Muldoon - I had better luck in my test: Single camera on a suction mount. ua-cam.com/video/riPr9eCqnpg/v-deo.html
Would you recommend i buy a second hand x1000v im upgrading from the as50
I've never used that camera but always thought it looked great.
@@KevinMuldoon its good but i want to upgrade to 4k
X1000v is very similar to X3000.... the most important difference is the stabilization in X3000 on 4K videos

£268 off eglobal, do it
Yeah it's a great deal at that price. Especially as it comes with the live remote.

You're welcome. The Sony's are much better audio wise, but the latest GoPros provide better video quality.
greatest review from a first person point of view, what's that accent ; Northern ?
Scottish 👍

Sony FDR X1000 has no stabilization at all?!
It does, but it's older technology.

The new GoPro 8 will have a better mic available as an attachment. That could change things up.

They all sound like rubbish unfortunately. Although I feel the GoPro is slightly better. What about in low light, how do they perform?
Long time since I did this video, but the GoPro tended to have the better picture overall.
