  • Whilst my Thruxton was in being serviced, I borrowed this bike.
    It's a rather comprehensive review, but I didn't take it offroad so doesn't utilise all of the bike's capabilities...
    Hope you enjoy.

      dbest1a Thank you! It was an enjoyable bike! But bear in mind that this is last year's model and they've done a massive update this year...
      Just so you know (you probably already do!)
      Thanks for watching! :-)

      So it's a 2014? Or 2013. I saw a dealer near me had a 2014 for 9999 us$ . I need something a bit more comfy for two up riding .. I saw the Yamaha fj09 .. Nice bike, but so cramped. I read these are more comfy.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 років тому

      dbest1a I'm afraid that I don't know as I haven't ridden the Yamaha. At the end of the day, aftermarket seats work a treat. For example, I've put the Triumph gel seat on my Thruxton and it markedly better!
      I wouldn't like to guess for you though. Best bet would be to try each to be sure...

    Captain Rambunctious Good review. I'm very tempted to change my Sprint St for a Tiger 800xc.
    Oh and don't worry, I won't look too closely. My speedo sometimes over reads too. ;-)

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 років тому

      S Caddy Excellent! Thank you. Yes, but the new XC is much better. Feels lighter and will more torque too. This was last years one which was a bit heavy but the new ones are splendid.
      These older ones are by no means bad, and if within the budget, then thats still an excellent swap!
      Glad you enjoy these... I rather enjoy making them and riding lots of different bikes too! :-)

    Good review Captain, I had a loan XC for 24 hours when my Street was in for service & reg change. As you found the power delivery is as smooth as a cashmere codpeice, ideal for soft offroading & new riders, likewise the progression of the brakes.
    The big trailie style is popular here in France among the long of leg. A fellow could load up the camping gear and tour Europe with ease, comfort and good fuel range plus nimbleness & power for the twisties.
    If it was not for the old hooligan in me, the Tiger 800 would be ideal for my rural riding.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 років тому

      There's an old hooligan in you or a young hooligan continually trying to get out?

    • @russcattell955i
      @russcattell955i 9 років тому +1

      Captain Rambunctious
      Well the young hooligan at 14-15 would ride on the road old brit bikes, fastest one was a Tiger 110. Then at 18 when I got my Yam RD 250, that was thrashed well.

      Update, I still have the Street Triple but have not ridden for over a year, I have had some health issues with my hands. If I don't give up biking it might be time for the Tiger 800.

    great review :) re: the seat height - it's just a matter of getting used to it - I'm 5'7" and ride a DR650 (which is about 880mm seat height) and I manage just fine.

    There's no doubt the Tiger is a fabulous all rounder, and a great bike. Give me a Thruxton or a Scrambler any day though! I'm 5'10" and 31" inside leg and just about managed the seat height on the Tiger roadster, the XC is way too tall for me. In any event, I like classics and vintage, so I'll not be buying one of these in any event. Good review, and loving the channel.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 років тому

      I agree too! Although, I'm having my eye turned by a Speed Triple maybe? Haven't ridden one of course. Just miss the triple engines... But I DO love my Thruxton...
      Thanks for the compliment! I hope you continue to enjoy! :-)

    Excellent review. Informative and interesting. Thanks.
    It always amazes me how the best reviews AREN'T done by motoring journalists. The best are almost always done by the "average Joe". And I it's not just because the "average Joe" is prepared to hilight the negative points of a bike whereas the journos won't. A ten year old could give a better review than MCN for example. If you want to know about a bike, forget the so-called pros. Listen to someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 років тому +1

      Thanks! I don't pretend to know what I'm talking about, but I just say why I think... Tiger riders disagree with me a bit on a forum with regards to a shaft drive, but that was only a bit of it...
      Thanks for the compliment! I'll see what bike I can 'borrow' next time! :-)

  • @timholt8141
    @timholt8141 7 років тому

    Ok Captain R, you've riden the XC and owned the XRX so which would be the better bike for fun use as a second all year bike. ?????

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  7 років тому

      Tim Holt will you be doing any off road?

    • @timholt8141
      @timholt8141 7 років тому

      Not intentionally. :-) Possibly an odd snoop up hidden lanes.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  7 років тому +1

      I'd throw a spanner in your ideas and say the new Tiger Sport. :-)
      But the XRx is the better bike as it is newer, better engine, better toys, lighter and more angle.
      Enjoy the decision and here's to an early Spring! :-)

    Test rode a 2nd hand xc Sat 22.4.15 and I'm afraid, found it totally underwhelming. Very comfortable, smooth engine/gearbox. But less of a punch, more a slap in the face with a wet fish. Bikers advancing from lesser powered machines will undoubtedly be impressed though.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 років тому +1

      Cheesy Wotsit Absolutely what I think now, especially as I have ridden the newer version, which feels lighter, has more torque and flicks more easily... I'd say try riding the new version. Quite a difference.
      Thanks for watching! :_)

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 років тому +1

      When I get it back I will, but I have done one before. I did a Thruxton Review a while back... But became a very long vid. I might just do one that is a shorter walkaround explaining bits. The trouble is, it's easy to forget facts and stats...

    Maybe it's because I've known you for so many years Cap, but I can't help but pick out possible innuendo in your vlogs. I expect a dirty laugh but it doesn't always come (snigger). Examples being that your wrists and bum don't take a hit, and I'm not sure I should even mention the long stroke..

    I've never really been taken with the looks of the Tiger, a good machine just not pretty, mind you having said that most people don't like the looks of my bike, lol, hahaha! ya think that's wide ya want to try filtering on my bike, lol, my bars are 38 inches wide, so not so easy, good review though Captain, nice vid, RSMF.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 років тому

      I wouldn't like to try! :-) Filtering on a motorway or dual carriageway fine, but tight spots at lights are a different matter. Cruiser wise, I love the Thunderbird Storm! That engine is amazing...

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  3 роки тому

      I think it must be. I recorded this in August 2014 and it was a demo and wouldn’t have been more than a few months old... hope this helps!
      Also, the front tyre was quite under inflated. The handling got a lot better once I pumped it up.

    I'm just reminded that the British are second only to the French when it comes to choosing a lane for their journey. If you want to drive on the right then I am sure the rest of Europe would be happy for you to do so officially rather than have a completely empty left lane.
