I remember this. I was only 10 years old, but we had to buy tickets for the game in advance instead of the usual pay on the gate in the Stretford End. 55,000 sell out. We thought it was our year...not to worry, it was a year later! Btw, the goal scored by Parker was right in front of me (I was sat on the little barriers on the fencing with the rest of the kids in the Stretty). Btw2, it was miles over the line!
24:50 - Bottom right hand corner - the guy above everyone else on someone's shoulders is me :-) I remember getting home late that night and watching those same highlights on Match of the Day - and seeing myself - hilarious
Yes it was a bit hairy afterwards! The atmosphere was amazing-outside of semis-this was one of the biggest followings I can remember us taking for any domestic game
City v Chelsea on the other side of town. One of the most violent days of football Manchester has seen by all accounts and it was kicking off until later into the night.
Best away game I went to. Full. Fucking. Stop. Still get tingles thinking back. Brilliant Day, Game, Teams. Forest had `12 -13000 - Motson says 12, other sources say more - I got in 30 minutes in - as you can see, the right hand corner (facing) opens another pen as the game starts as we all came in - You Fucking Reds. Forest were magic then - proper games v United, Liverpool etc - and at that time we won more than we lost. You Reds
If you had the whole of the Scoreboard End into United Road and the K Stand seats, it would be about 12k. Only Liverpool or City ever requested the whole of the Scoreboard End and would actually go beyond the corner flag. Newcastle did it one year too when we beat em 5-0. 85 I think. Four teams then including you. Even Everton in 84 at the Milk Cup didn't go into the United Road part.
I remember this I'm a City fan we was playing Chelsea at Maine Road the same day top of the table clash old second Division. But just listen to the atmosphere that day electric, You just don't get that in the top flight anymore due to fact the true Racouse tribal Atmosphere in the top flight got priced out.
I think City brought the same amount in 1986-87 for the Cup-tie. These are the two biggest that I've seen. Newcastle had the biggest league following in 1984, when they brought about 6,000.
That knobhead ref Brian Hill..he hated Fergie too. I was stood on United Road that day & that ball was so far over the line that it was nearly in Irlam
One of the best atmospheres of that season stretty was electric that day glad I was there. Just think if we’d won we would have gone to hillsborough for the semi final.....
the wanker referee who did'nt give mcclair's goal was the same referee who dissallowed peter beardsley's goal for liverpool against wimbledon less than a season earlier
Hodge was standing ON the line. No way the ref could tell for sure if the ball crossed the line or not. Benefit of the doubt says no goal. Get over it united fans (and Fergie).
Didn't the forest fans try and run back in the stadium after the game? I'm a blue but always heard this off my mate who is a red and at the game and said he'd never seen that before or since.
Remember watching this on Match of the day, great atmosphere that we will never see again ever in the soulless stadiums of today!!!

@@MaMu-fv8uo Yeah, and we did go beyond the corner flag, you can see as it gets closer to half time as so many late arrivals....

FA Cup ties like this were massive in those days, it's hard to imagine now. Doubt the Cup will ever mean as much as it used to.
Depends what’s at stake an who you play. But it’s definitely missing something
it makes your heart tingle and feel crazily nostalgic..stads don't feel like that anymore..
@@kailashpatel1706exile Mancunian what lives in Scarborough. I don't go city now.. Just don't enjoy the match day going experience anymore.
The last truly great atmosphere at OT. United Road was seated just over twelve months later; and that was it.
I still really miss the "Crazy Corner" of United Road. Especially after we'd scored.

scherben was the Newcastle one the 5-0?? I think it was. The Chelsea cup game in 87-88 I remember as being a good one at OT

This indirectly led to Hillsborough. ..

no maine or goodison
@@redflag8970 Exactly. Hillsborough would never have happened if Choccy's goal had stood and we'd turned it around.
Probably would have been Maine road or Goodison you’re right. Toss of a coin to decide.

Who are Notts Forest? Its Notts County or Nottm Forest
Proper game of footy that.
Forest were some side then, if it wasn't for Liverpool they would of won so much more, used to have some dust ups with the so called big 6.
so many of these top players so superior to today's
the assist from Carr would never be pulled off by today's hopeful EPL wingers
Ralph fucking Milne. United legend.

I remember you his game well.....I was 12 years old.....Hodge clearance off the line..... Pheeew 😲.....N.F.F.C Forever🥅⚽✊🌳👍
To think if Utd had of won this game the semi final would have been at Goodison or Maine Road. No Hillsborough disaster.
We got our own back at the city ground the following season!!
Can I just say its Nottingham forest not notts forest
It's Nottingham forest not notts forest. Notts are notts county
In the days before Fergie time
NOTTINGHAM Forest or Nott’m for short
"Notts" ?
Hughes crying for a free kick...............he was a yard behind Walker.
That made me laugh too.
It’s Nottingham Forest ! 🤨

I was there, they were held back in the stadium for their own safety as Utd had a baying mob of about 5,000 hooligans on the forecourt

Bit surprised that Man U kept their fences up after the Hillsborough tragedy, obviously behaviour was still a problem.
