I was behind the goal, one of the best away matches ever.

    Proper footballing team.
No matter how crazy Clough comes across, he and Taylor created some great teams

Still remembering Archie Gemmill's two through balls for goals 3 and 4 that have would have graced Gerson from Brazil 1970.

Gemmill was an amazing player. I think non-Forest fans often forget he scored one of the best World Cup goals ever. He scored as many World Cup goals as Rooney, despite only going to one World Cup, and whilst Rooney scored his goal against a lack-lustre Uruguay team, Gemmill's was against eventual finalists, the Netherlands.

Always remembered this game on TV. Forest only Narrowly beat Utd at the City ground, but totally whitewashed them here. What an incredible side they were chased after everything and relentless. Now it's all down to rich owners and teams full of foreign internationals. Just not the same alas

I think the City Ground game was 4-2, wasn't it? Not comprehensive but probably not narrow either.

For those of us there, it must go down as a all time favourite, we didn't expect that, but forest were brilliant, being from the same town as Tony woodcock, made it even better

Forest played United four times this season ( 22/23 ), our first back in the Premiership. There were two games in the League Cup ( Carabao Cup ) and two in the Premiership. The TV companies showing the games felt the need to constantly play the 1-8 loss in our last Premier League season, because they don't seem to think football existed before the Premier League.
It was a humiliating defeat, but it was a team which was on its way down. It was the proverbial kicking when you're down. This game is obviously much better for Forest fans because we won, but also it is a better game objectively because United were supposed to be a decent team. They had won the F.A.Cup the previous season.
So, team with millions and millions of pounds who have the reputation and money to attract the world's best players go to the ground of a team who've had financial difficulties and are rapidly on their way down and thrash them vs team who have only just got promoted go to one of the league's richest clubs who are current F.A.Cup holders and give them a drubbing.
Which of these is a more interesting story? I'd go with the latter every time.

And just think that if earlier in the year, Old Trafford board had agreed to pay Shilton £50 a week above their max wage, he would be playing for Man United and not Forest. Not the smartest move from The Directors at O.T

    • @scherben8870
      @scherben8870 3 роки тому +1

Shilton's wage was index linked, which mean that, with rampant inflation, his wage was way above the £50 quoted by Tommy Doc (Forest were paying him £1200 at one point). I'd taken anything said by that man with a large dose of salt.

Shilton would have put an extra 2 or 3 thousand on the attendance.

Thought Woodcock with his pace and control and O’Neils quickness were excellent

Good comment. All this Forest side were excellent here to be fair. United just could not cope on the day. Men against boys almost.

I was there. Appalling United result and probably the lowest point of the season.

Funny how (even back then) United don't have the Admiral logo on their shirts and Forest don't have the Adidas one.

To play football like that on a pitch like that was testimony to those players Clough & Taylor assembled and coached.

Pitch was fine for December & that was normal. Now pitches are sterile, has no impact on the game & players back then would give you an exciting game. Now it's just a video game. Hate today's ball as well.

A performance from Manure to rival any of the laughably inept ones from last season. Here’s hoping they’re as crap next season.
