- A short video showing some factual aspects of the large Australian Wolf Spider Lycosa sp behaviour in a typical lawn on the east coast of Australia.
If you like this video you can see more of my work at
www.sciencephoto.com/search?su...
The footage was obtained entirely on location and sets were not used.
ERRATUM: PLEASE NOTE THAT WHERE THE NARRATOR REFERS TO GRASSHOPPERS, AFTER THE FIRST CLIP THE FOLLOWING ARE ACTUALLY CRICKETS FROM THE FAMILY TETTIGONIIDAE (THEY CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY HAVING LONG ANTENNAE) Sorry!
CHECK OUT THIS OTHER CREEPY SPIDER VID HERE!
• Arachnophobia
FINALLY a generic note to all who watch this video:
Thanks for your comments liking the vid but no your are wrong (if you suggest/imply or simply state the following about the making of this film): I never tore off an legs put any crickets/grasshoppers near holes etc. This vid took over 3 weeks to film not to mention the several weeks before filming to scope an area of over 400m2 looking for active spiders in their holes and noting at what time of day they came out and when and where the sun direction was from, temperature, when crickets (they were actually day cricket and not grasshoppers) were about etc. Everything you see on FCF is very well thought out, with a proper productions, and thorough research liaising with world authorities on subject matter for accurate narrations .Sometimes SFX are indeed added however there are no interspecies conflicts nor are there any forced conflicts just loads of research, careful and detailed observations, and the stuff you can't buy off the shelf and that's patience and dealing with the countless times you sit there getting eaten alive by mosquitos, bitten by ants to make something like what you see here in this short film.
Thanks for watching!

1:22 "Fast moving" I think he means teleporting predators
Kenn Har yea or this spider could be a robot or learned how to hack
It's the cocaine
Kenn Har XD tru
Nani!?
Kenn Har u mean 1:21
0:45 That awkward moment when you suddenly realize that there's a camera and that some British guy is narrating every single little thing you do.
AUSTRALIAN, sorry.
araknidude It's really not that bad LOL but we do have a deadly poisonous Elapid snake living under our pool filter house LOL at least it was last summer.
Australian. Yeah they sound British, but they are not, only their ancestors are
She was simply disappointed that it was not Morgan Freeman.
BroccoliBeefed
Believe it or not we come from a lot of different places, probably just like your ancestors did. Crazy, right?
DON'T KILL WOLF SPIDERS! These guys are chill as fuck and they're great at killing other nasties you might find in your back yard... they kill other spiders for fun! They aren't particularly aggressive to humans either and would much prefer to run away or avoid you completely. If one comes into your home, use a glass and paper to scoop it and let it go away from your house.
Wolfies and jumpin bros are true spiderbros
Hitsuke I miss them, they'll rear up if cornered to warn you away or run for it. I moved to a place that doesn't have them and it is infested with sac spiders. Only down side to a wolf is I have stepped on one and my sister had a mother with babies on her back crawl into bed with her, this didn't end well. Never once got bitten... only been bitten by a jumping spider I picked up. I lived in a house infested with black widows... I don't think the wolfs eat black widows. lol
Ya but they be UGLY and SCAREY and just NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hitsuke they kill other spiders for fun!?
psychopaths
Hitsuke I would only kill the ones that would kill me or do something nasty...besides them there all cool especially the T's!
1:20 blows my mind every time i see that speed

I often see wolf spiders and they are REALLY Quick. Funny little critters.

I had to slow it down to x0.25 and watch again. Still it’s just there immediately. Terrifying
I'm pretty sure the camera crew broke a leg off the grasshopper on purpose to show the wolf spider in action.

I'm trying to overcome my arachnophobia, so watching things like this is pretty rough. I can see why people think they are beautiful in a way.
Takaithepanda Same I’m trying
*AND FAILING. BADLY*
as someone who had a severe arachnophobia, might I suggest not only watching videos, but reading books about spiders. Observe them in the wild. It really DOES help.
Do yourself a favour and watch a spider construct its web. It's very therapeutic.
Takaithepanda watch videos on jumping spiders a lot more palatable then this
Takaithepanda I used to have arachnophobia, but I got over it after researching spiders and owning a couple tarantulas.
Can’t be the only one here after playing grounded🤣
Yooo same
Yoooo 😂
Oh yeee. Same. Saw one under a tree and successful ran away.
Just got rekt by this spidrr
Lmao yeah
1:20 its been training with Goku and learned instantaneous transmission xD
Ulysses what he said
You telling I trained that I've mastered ui a d I'm still scared
Anyways it is instant transmission
Why am I watching this before bed.
1:19 to 1:20
Literally took a fraction or less of a second to glitch out of no where. Falcons may be able to dive a phenomenal speeds using gravity, but you can't even see a spider when it's moving at its fastest.
They can jump that fast too
It was editted look closely the legs don't even move
@@mariolisa2832 watch this at at the slowest playback speed and say it aint move again
that shit was so fast was it really not edited ?? lol
The spider looks fake
They are not known to be dangerous to humans, though I would avoid being bitten by any spider just in case of an allergic reaction. Thanks for watching!
goodbye friends of Hagrid
Yep,Aragog was a wolf spider.
I knew this guy looked familiar!!
I actually ended up here because I was searching for Lycosa Aragogi, a Wolf Spider named after Aragog (the King of the Arachnids).
2:52 It was at that very moment that the grasshopper knew... He fucked up.
At that time he knew he fucked up
Simone Pardee its a kakidid

2:52 that crunch though

I’m glad you pointed this out because Jesus Christ that thing was crispy

I have arachnophobia, but I love watching videos like this, spiders are so fascinating.
Bruh im the same way! They terrify me but there really interesting
that makes no sense
@@BowgartFAM well your not us
then you're just scared of spiders, phobias are something where you could not possibly look at one without freaking out

+Drey Parker no. i think its quite educational
Drey Parker is funny

I used to think wolf spiders had the scariest faces with their two big black eyes and frowny expression but now I think they look cute. They actually do look like wolves or dogs or a Scotsman with their gingery beardy fangs! If I had one I'd call him Hamish as they look like Mel Gibson's ginger compatriot in Braveheart.
I'm terrified but I have to admit...
That spider was kind of beautiful.
no
Yes
maybe
Can't imagine what you think ugly looks like?
Natalia your right im therofyied Aswell
Nice, informative video. Too bad more people didn't learn from it.
Couldn't agree more.
MadCity Jack I learned something. Fuck spiders
Ironclad _Turtle Well, don't know if I'd put it quite that way or not, but yeah, I guess you're right!!😉✝️⚜️
Michelle Duquette that wonky face creeps me out.
Ironclad _Turtle IKR?!
One of my favorite spider :3
Btw he's not a fast moving predator, but a teleporting predator
ThatzGcplaysITA wow good one! You took that one from the 3 people that said it before you.
Lol! 😆
@@scottprendergast2680 indeed! How dare he say its his favourite spider! So unoriginal and it makes me so physically angry that I have to comment about it!!!!
The spider is like, BOI WTF U STALKING ME?
Name Name tf
Name Name nah he doesnt speak like that hes not black lol
Thank you so much for making this video! My boyfriend and I love wolf spiders and have watched this one probably twenty times. You do such a great job with the narration and close-ups. I wish you had more wolf spider videos! We also enjoy your rats at the compost pile video. Excellent work. Thanks again.
It feels like when it stops moving for a moment it is staring into my soul, freaking out...
2:45 When you tell a funny joke, but no one laughs
This spider is somehow one of the first , that I ever somehow found it cute
Really I think is a ugly spider don't worry I respect your opinions but the most cute spider is a jumping spider and a peacok spider the only.
lol Gona check it out thx mate
Prolly the eyes although I disagree.
stupaod You mean the eyes of show jumping spiders?
Dall'agnol Aymeric
I mean this person probably finds the Wolf Spider cute because of its eyes. Jumping spiders because of the eyes and body shape.
2:52 That crunch! Awesome!
One more thing. Your close-up shots are phenomenal. You can literally see the hairs that are on her hairs!
Macro lenses are beautiful
1:20 that spider just had a usain bolt moment
The Wolf Spider is so adorable, aww look at that face! 🥰
ahh yes 6 eyes, giant chelicerae and tons of hair. soo cute
@@smurt1403It’s feckin adorable how could you not think so?
@@xthee_0nly_1x11tbh I didn’t like how wolf spiders looked either but that’s mainly because of my arachnophobia. I’ve been doing exposure therapy though and I have to admit these little guys ARE kinda feckin adorable
What a beautiful animal. Normally, I'm scared of spiders, but I can't help but feel that this one is really quite a nice little creature. :)
I'm prefer the peacok spider or a jumping spider.
@@dallagnolaymeric5714so jumping spiders?
Yeah same, but do you still find them beautiful when you have on in your bed? x)

Here from grounded
Great photography and lively narration. No playing on peoples' phobias; good honest nature filming letting the beauty of these animals speak for themselves. Great work, more please!
such a cute spider.
As a kid in the 1970's my aunt had a home in San Fernando valley.. her back yard was huge and my uncle was a plumber and had water heaters and toilets in a area all fence off so it wouldn't be an eyesore! I go there and see lots of Spiders and webs everywhere! I heard a loud buzzing noise one time and notice a huge Wolf Wrapped around a bumble bee! I flick it in a jar! The spider lived for 2 years! And it was huge!
It looks like a sad snowman.
Nice I never knew they made little burrows. I always see them running around my grass with their egg sacks on their back. Its cool how they part from the mother. They'll got to the top of a blade of grass, release a stand of web which the wind picks up and carries them to another location. Nice camera too.
nope
...im still a kid 0_0
Noah Luna It is a very natural and EXTREMELY rational fear.
douglasold
Never really understood why fearing them. Is it the amount of legs or hair? spiders are some of the least threatning poison animals to humans.. if you should fear anything then fear rattle snakes.. those are some nasty agressive fellas
***** It's human instinct really. If you are inexperienced with any sort of dangerous animal, insect or arachnid, you tent to be a little cautious around them. A spider is a good example of this.
douglasold
They aren't exactly agressive, most tend to hide from humans.
who got this recommended because they watches grounded
The spider must be looking up at the camera like "WTF IS THAT?!?!" which is also probably the reaction of the cameraman too.
You mean the Nope spider?
Omg you read my mind
More like the YES spider!
But he's cute, especially with his big teeth making him look like a hillbilly.
Reminds me of grounded
In Australia, Q-tips are called "cotton buds." I was a Yank (USA native, i.e.) visiting pals near Melbourne. In the house, up on the wall, was a nice-sized Wolf spider. The guys there swore to me that the spider was "harmless." I decided to test that theory by ***gently*** placing a Q-tip's cotton end within reach of the spider. Instantaneously, giant fangs came out, left and right, and embedded themselves deep in the Q-tip. Hahaha. Yeah. Very funny.
Trying not to get scared: when I was little I had an encounter with a tarantula, I was 4....since than I've been arachnophobic....even if now I'm doing my best to get rid of such phobia! Nowdays I can TOUCH little spiders such as the harmless "skinny legs" spiders or the green leaves spiders...however when it comes to HAIRY spiders the phobia triggers and I can barely look at them...videos still get under my skin, but definetly not as much as in the real life! what gives me the creeps about spiders is that they can be still for days and than jump at you so damn fast O_o!!!
If you’re scared of hairy tarantulas, know:
- tarantulas are slow and fragile asf
- the ones that can kick their setae (hair) off in defence are left with a hilarious bald patch on their butt if they do it too much
Grounded sends me here
Anyone watching this because of grounded
Ye
yess
Yup
Wait what
Aaronoilplays O we are all grounded, 🙄
Came across one of these things at work the other day and I must say it freaked me out for the rest of the day.
One the best wild spiders to handle very docile and will let u handle them.
I was very impressed by your video! I love nature documentaries, but sometimes my attention span isn't very long. LOL. That's why I like ones that are a few minutes long. I hope you continue to observe and film wildlife. Bravo! Keep up the great work! I can't wait to see more!
3:10 Just me and my new friend chillin
She's shaped like a friend.
That was generous of the grasshopper to deliver itself as breakfast for the spider.
Door-Dash??? 😊
Honestly, I thought that Wolf Spider looked cute. :3
Me too, but only from the safety of a computer screen :D
calamityjane1981 :DDDD Yep in reality it would scare me as fuck.... maybe even on computer screen idk :D
Same actually. I don't know if there are different types of wolf spider, but the typical house spider is the one I hate. Their legs are thinner than this, and their bodies a slightly longer shape
LionmaneElsie08 HI there are many species of the Lycosidae, ie "wolf spiders" found in both southern and northern hemispheres. Thanks for watching!
I see. Interesting to know : )
0:49. the spider just like " hey youtube wassup just digging some dirt here thats dont mind me if i do "

@Mario Lisa this was 3 years ago im 15 now, wow i didn't know i was that cringy ksndjdbsjs
2:48 That one second close-up
"What are you looking at?"
I finished fishing and turned my headlamp on and saw hundreds of green glowy things in the grass. I was like oh sick I wonder what that is and leaned over and was like AYO. It was hundreds of wolf spiders and as I walked away I saw them retreat into burrows or walk out of my way. Very cool
Thanks for watching!
Why is this video on the right side? WHY???? IT SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF ME EVERY DAY.
I got bit by one of those before but it was just doing what nature does when it's threatened but thanks for the video dude I found it very interesting☺
Stegosaur 98 scary
Stop with the lies they run from people, dumbass attention seeker
Scott Prendergast although very they can bite people if provoked
She is so cute and goofy.
Its cute how they clean.
Wolf spiders do live in the US though (but I think the species we have is smaller). My house is infested with them and they can grow to the size of a quarter or more. They're actually very nice to have around... less bugs. Very beautiful spider shown here- keep the bug populations in control! :D
Who's here because of Grounded?

I got bit by a wolf spider back in like 2004-05 at BAND CAMP. Got infected the my knee got to the size of a softball. I was in the hospital for a couple of days :(
Actually it was your fault that the bite got infected, the spider was just defending itself
I swear spiders like this won’t scare me but a cough will.
Spider just casually grabbed it like it was an item on a shelf.
Too many legs, man...TOO MANY GOD DAMN LEGS!!!!!!

I am not sorry...
Thicc legs xd

So I heard mars is pretty nice this time of the year.
A couple of years ago I sat here and saw a wolf spider on my desk. I kept my eye on it when I stood up to go and get a glass to catch it in. VOOM! - it "teleported" quicker than a blink of an eye. The only place it could have ran and hide under was a piece of paper that was on the desk. I bent down to look under it, and yup, I saw a spider butt!
2:48 spider like " im just gonna chill sideways in my hole intel the food come"
anyone wanna play grounded?
I live in North Carolina, US & these things are all over my yard 😧
This was an amazing video. I've become a bit obsessed with spiders. Jumping spiders. But in becoming obsessed with watching them I've seen other videos. I've seen a lot of videos about wolf spiders but I've never seen one where it shows her digging her burrow. I've never seen a spider use its Fangs for anything but eating and killing and injecting. It's kind of makes them more motherly. And she's making herself a nice home like any woman would want. Thank you for sharing this video with us. They are some scary looking spiders but they're also very necessary and I'm becoming more and more aware of how much they helped us compared to how much they can hurt us. I've learned that from Clint's reptiles and Tyler Nolan's videos and Chandler's videos. Just because animals can hurt us doesn't make them bad. And they're not vicious their defensive. See I'm learning already. Thank you for your video
That grasshopper must of been like "Goodbye cruel world cant live with myself anymore with only one leg!". *CRUNCH!*
I'm never visiting australia.
We have them in the USA too!

These things are tough to take down in grounded and they're super scary when they pop up anywhere behind you.
Wow this is an amazing looking Wolf Spider. The patterns on the body are incredible :D. I wish we had awesome looking spiders like that over here as well, but sadly we only have tiny Wolf Spiders :(. They are beautiful though, but not as beautiful as this one here :3. Spiders are wonderful animals :D.
